My classmates are obsessed with sex--and it's freaking me out

Check these out, too...

  • Hey, Mr. President! Let's talk about sex
  • How to get guys to stop taking advantage of you
Kids in my class are obsessed with talking about sex. It makes me uncomfortable.

What should I say?

"It’s OK to feel uncomfortable!" says child and adolescent therapist Angela Marie McMahon. "During adolescence, it's normal for those three little letters to bring out different emotions-curiosity, fear, excitement, anxiety, uncertainty. Surely, other kids in your class have similar feelings." Ms. McMahon suggests talking with your peers (that is, buds) to release all those emotions that come with growing up. You may want to chat privately with your best friend, or you may feel more comfortable bringing it up with a group of your close pals at the next slumber party.

Ms. McMahon says classroom talk can sometimes get out of hand. "It becomes a gossip session or class debate fueled by pressure to be hip," she says. "This can lead to a false belief that everyone is 'doing it.' As a result, some girls become sexually active because they think it's the cool thing to do. Whether the class discussion has become destructive or is just getting on your last nerve, the best advice is to honestly express your thoughts. Try not to stress over what the other kids' reactions might be. Congratulate yourself on the inner courage you strengthened by being true to yourself."

SORT: OLDEST FIRST | NEWEST FIRST

I've read SOOO MANY COMMENTS on this article about how "guys so immature" and that "no one in their teens would do that" and I really think we need to give the dudes a break! Spending ALL DAY at school hearing others talk about it, listening to freaking perved music, and watching freaking perved movies has everyone curious at one time or another. Being curious, striving for attention or to be labeled "cool" if you'd talk about it is a small price to pay for some that ah-hlot of ppl are willing to do. One day, someone guy is gunna capture ur heart or your best friend's or sister's..so why don't u help 'em out instead of stereo-typing them "immature" for being a victim of modern-day. That's unfortunately the way it is and DON'T GET ME WRONG i think sex is way wrong b4 marriage but the preteen/teen curiousity? It's not exactly FINE to try to top someone else's perved-ness, but just give 'em a break..they deserve it since one day they will be takin' the check on ya'lls date or even possibly be asking u to be his special someone for the rest of his life Smile ...imagine walking in their shoes for a day or two

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD !!!
I have dated two guys so far this year, the first one dumped me because he wanted to get a girl who turned him down jealous, the second one I left because he does drugs and plenty of other things i found out about him. What can i do to stay in a good solid relationship?

Hey girl! It's hard to find a mutual connection.  Keep your head up, there is someone out there for you! You don't deserve guys who don't respect you! Just continue to be out-going and be yourself!

I think u should wait until your married not just because its the "right" thing to do but also because if you dont wait you wont have that special feeling that he is the only one and it wont be as special and also you could risk getting pregnant nothing works 100% of the time
