10 Ways to Exercise the Buddy System

It’s been proven that working out with a bud is extra beneficial. We’ve got 10 fun (and free!) ways for you and your BFF to see results.

1. Create a Racket.
Buy some inexpensive used gear, grab your BFF, then take out your frustrations by whacking the ball around on free, local tennis courts. Aces!
2. Drill It.
If you two are on a team together, bust out your toughest sport-specific drills. By the time tryouts come around, you’ll be golden.
3. Get a Goal.
Find a mini-triathlon in your area, and start biking, swimming and jogging now. Bonus: Raise moolah for your fave charity along the way.
4. Get Over Obstacles. 
Set up a crazy obstacle course using cones in your yard and jump, run, play catch and have a blast while you get in a great workout.
5. Wake-up Call. 
The next time you crash at your bestie’s house, tote a yoga mat along. Sun salutations will start your Saturday off on the right foot.
6. Host a Dance Off.
Borrow a Zumba DVD from the library and learn to shake it. Crank the music and you’ll forget you’re actually breaking a sweat. 
7. Laugh It Off. 
There’s nothing better than doing a wacky fitness video with your girls. Hideous outfits are mandatory! Promise you won’t take camera phone pics (even though they’d be hilarious!).
8. Power Up Your Weekend.
If your babes are crazy-busy during the week, pen in a power hour for
Sundays. Do a half-hour of cardio, and then a strength circuit. Bonus points if you can add another session during the week.
9. Become Pro Dog Walkers.
It takes major energy to wrangle a pack of pups, so let neighbors know you can walk dogs on weekends, and bark up some business.
10. Hold a Sprint-a-thon.
Head to the high school track and warm up with a lap. Then, alternate between sprinting and walking for 100 yards a pop. Start with a couple laps and build from there.

I have this camp that I love so much and every year they have a mile swim so I do that every summer but a lot of my friends do this thing called Ironwoman and it's pretty much you swim two miles , run two miles, and carry a metal canoe by yourself for two miles. I really want to do it so I'm trying to like... train for it all school year and I hope i get the courage to try for it next year!!

I love the idea of doing exercises with my friends but. they are already really skinny and well I'm not. so I feel really weird exercising with them.

MOD MOD MOD!
Hi! I'm new on girlslife.com. I've been getting the magazine for a couple years and I've decided to finally register on the website. So I have 2 quick questions: If I put MOD MOD MOD does that mean a mod will answer my question? AND WHAT IS A MOD? Okay now to my fitness question:
I'm not totally fat but I defintely want to lose some weight and fat. I would love to work out with friends, but most of my friends are skinny girls with abs. It annoys me so much because they kinda flaunt it. And I went shopping with this girl who used to be my friend and a ton of other girls and she was looking for 00 shorts. I was like "OHMIGOSH!" And my other friend and I were looking in American Eagle and she told me 00 don't even fit her (she's smaller than that!). I really would like a friend to work out with, but they already are skinny and have abs. So what do I do? I go walking with my mom sometimes, so that's good support, but I would like it from girls my age!

Hey babe! Mod means "Moderator", we answer all your questions!  You are perfect just the way you are! Exercise is a great way to get in shape, tone up, and make yourself feel good inside and out!  You should exercise to FEEL good, not to just look good! Working out with friends can be way more fun than working out alone, so that's a great idea.  Just because a girl is "skinny" does not mean she's in shape.  Some girls are naturally skinny without exercise, but they lack muscle definition and are untoned.  Try asking a friend you're pretty comfortable with if she'd want to go for a jog, or workout for a half hour with you...if you don't like it, you don't have to go with her again! Also try not to compare yourself to others, you are your own unique person and we're all made differently.  They're still growing, and you may be too, it's normal to be different shapes and sizes. If we were all 00s it would be pretty boring!

me and my two friends are doing a triathlon in september! we are goin make matching shirts (hehe). im starting training tomorrow. its 200 yard swim, 7 mile bike ride, and a 1 mile run. im so excited!!!!!!!!

Take the stairs more than once. When you’re at home, run up and down the stairs three or four times before heading to your room. It’s a sneaky way to stay active.
