Chore overload? What to do now

A few months ago my brother broke his leg and my grandma moved in because she was getting surgery, so I started helping them all the time. Now both of them are pretty much healed, but I'm still being treated like a servant!

My parents still expect me to pick up a lot of work around the house. I will gladly do my share for the family, but how can I gently remind my family that I am not a servant?

Hey girl,

It’s hard sometimes to realize what’s a good amount of chores to do without become a servant. But don’t worry! It’ll all get figured out.

Make a list

Ask your ‘rents if you can make up a schedule or a list for you AND your bro with the chores that you have to do each day. Then, post it up on the fridge so everyone can see what’s up for that day. This way, your parents can clearly see who’s doing the work and who isn’t. While making the list, also compromise with your family and let them know that you do have to balance other things, like schoolwork, free time, and so on.

Ask for an allowance

If you think what they’re asking you to do is too much, ask if you could get a little something back for helping out. Certain things, like unloading the dishwasher, washing the dishes and other things like that, are very simple to do. But, other things like raking the leaves, mowing the lawn and washing the car might prove to be easier for you mentally if you have an incentive.
