A Cheery (But Totally Tough) Workout

You don’t have to shake pom-poms to take a cue from the spirit squad.
 
We chatted up author and former pro cheerleader Lindsay Brin about the best moves for toning up all over. Perform each move for a minute and do the whole circuit twice.

PLIÉ to PASSÉ
Start standing with heels together, toes turned out. Tuck your butt under, and keep your abs tight with your shoulders relaxed. Bend your knees and immediately straighten your right leg. Bend your left leg and place your left foot near your right knee. Perform 1 minute on each side.

TRICEP DIP

Sit on the floor. Place palms directly under your shoulders with feet on the floor. Raise your butt off the ground (you’ll be in a table-like position). Bend your elbows to lower down until your butt almost touches the ground. Straighten back up to start.

FOOTBALL PUSH-UP 
Use chalk or a piece of string to make a line 5 feet long on the ground. Start in a push-up position, with your nose, waist and feet over the line and your hands wider than your shoulders. Bend elbows and lower to the ground. Push yourself up. Walk hands to one side of the line. Repeat push-up, then walk hands to starting position. Alternate sides.

KNEE BRIDGE
Start on your back with your knees bent and heels close to your butt. Keep knees hip-width apart and arms by your side, with hands on the floor. Squeeze your knees together and lift your butt off the mat. Slowly return back to start. Lower knees to the sides, keeping the edges of your feet on the ground. Slowly return to start and repeat from the beginning.

HURDLERS 
Start in a push-up position. Bend one knee up to your stomach. Clench your abs and keep the rest of your body tight. Slowly return your foot back to start. Switch.

TACKLE
Start in a push-up position. Quickly bring both knees into your chest. Jump back out to your starting position. Do as many as you can, as fast as you can, keeping your heart rate up.

I need some tips for how to firm up/ tone my abs Smile I do the forearm plank sometimes and when I do it, I can tell it does something! But then I don't do it for a couple days and.... bleh Tong. Smile Any tips??

MODMODMOD!!!!! i have 2 run the mile 2 weeks from now and currently im healthy skinny and evrything but im really out of shape im getting more in shape by play softball my main sport but i can only play that in the late spring early mid summer and during all of the winter and most of the fall im really out of shape and that leads until softball starts again but back 2 the mile thing i HAVE 2 run it cause ive already missed the day i was supposed to have runit cause i had been sick all week the week before and was really weak and i still am but right now i can run/but mainly walk the mile in about 11-12 minutes but i dont want 2 walk the entire time cause people already think im a weakling cause im so skinny and small but i want 2 run the mile in about 6-9 minutes and run almost the entire time do u think i can get that fast in 2 weeks and if so do u kno any good running workouts? btw i can't run with my friend that ill be running with cause shes kinda sick or hurt i guess so ya sry this question is so long and thnx in advance

 

Hey girly! Ugh, I hated the mile in school! Check out these tips for training. (I know they say 5 weeks or so, but I don't think it would hurt to do what it says for 2 weeks). Good luck Smile

MOD!!! i'm only 14,  how should i get started? I really want to lose a few pounds before summer but i don't know how.




Hey babe, remember that you are perfect just the way you are.  If you're looking to boost your activity level, get in shape, and get toned, then it's def a good idea to exercise! A good workout is a 25 minute cardio session, and 15 minute strength/ab exercise session.  This works your total body and it takes less than an hour!  Try jogging or biking for cardio, and look online for some great strengthening exercises!  Squats, lounges, and bicycle crunches are my favs!
