I'm embarrassed to talk to my mom!

Check these out, too...

  • Boob hair: Normal or not?
  • Your down-there guide from A to V: GL's spill-all guide to your girly parts
  • Turning 16--but I don't want to grow up
  • I'm only 13--why did my breasts stop growing?
  • Do guys only care about chest size?
My body is really starting to change but my mom is afraid to talk. I'm too embarrassed to bring it up. What am I supposed to do?

Ugh. It figures. The one time you actually want your mom to speak up and give you advice she suddenly forgets how to talk. Puberty isn’t fun for anyone, but it’s nothing to feel embarrassed about—it happens to everybody. Luckily, you’re in the right place. GL has tons of great advice for your bod and girls just like you so you’ll never feel alone.

What’s going on?

You probably have a lot of questions about what’s happening to your body, as you should. Puberty is a time when your body changes from a girl into a young woman. You’ll notice hair in places where it didn’t use to be, such as your underarms, legs and privates. And that’s totally normal. Your breasts will also begin to grow and eventually you’ll start your period. For more info, check out this link: Period, Period and Bod Squad.

You’re not alone

Yes, it might feel like you’re the only one who has to wear a bra and shop for tampons. But you’re not. Other girls are going through the same thing. And if they’re not? Don’t worry—their time will come. If you don’t feel comfortable discussing what’s going on with your friends, maybe you can reach out to an older sister or cousin for some help. After all, they’ve been there and done that and are probably more than willing to help you out.

Mom & Mother Nature

Chances are your mom probably feels about as embarrassed as you do and she doesn’t know how to approach the topic. So it’s up to you to break the ice. You could wait for the next tampon/pad commercial to come on to pop the question so it doesn’t seem like it came out of nowhere. You could say, “Hey Mom, there’s something I really want to talk to you about, but I feel a little silly bringing it up.” Hopefully she catches your drift and asks you what’s on your mind so this is your chance to speak up. And we’re here for you, too!

Lots of love,
L’Oreal

thanks for ur advice to go to victorias secret but when i ask my mom she says i already bought u all theses bras ur fine and im embarassed to bring it up she just wont listen! thanks so much!

Don't be embarrassed!  I know it's a weird subject to talk about, but by actually talking about it with mom, you'll break the ice and make it SO much less uncomfortable.  Just let her know that your bras are literally hurting you - explain to her exactly how it feels and where it hurts so she understands.  Say that you wouldn't normally complain because you are genuinely grateful for the bras, but they just make you hurt constantly. If she's still against buying more, I totally understand - bras are expensive so she wouldn't want to go out and buy more if you just got some. Do you have any that don't hurt so bad?  Try wearing those for now and save up some cash yourself to get a new one Smile

every like five minutes the underwire in my bra pokes my pits and it hurts and i have to move it and its really awkward (ive changed the strap length many times) when i tell my mom she says u r fine its really annoying! im a 36C if that helps, Thanks a bunch!

Ouch!  If the underwire is uncomfortable to you in any way, it might mean that you're wearing the wrong size bra.  Try going to the lingerie section of a department store or to Victoria's Secret. They have women who are trained to fit you for the right size!  They'll measure you, help you pick the right styles for your body type, and hopefully have you walking out of the store with a bra that is totally perf for you Smile
