My teacher treats me differently because I have ADD

Check these out, too...

  • Glad we don't have them! Trouble teachers from our fave flicks
  • How to charm your homeroom teacher
  • Will the next president give bad teachers the boot?
  • Help! I'm crushing on my teacher
  • Bullied by teacher? Yep, it totally happens--tell us your story
A lot of my teachers treat me as if I'm a young child. While I perform well in school, I have ADD and teachers think this means I have no common sense. During a recent field trip, my teacher singled me out because she thought I would wander off. She held my hand when I crossed the street and she personally escorted me whenever I wanted to check something out. No one else received this sort of treatment and I felt very belittled.

I hold a job, have my driver's permit and feel just as confident in the world as any other student my age; it is just because I can be absentminded that people don't think I'm capable. How can I get people to take me seriously and gently tell them that I do not want to be treated this way?

Hey girl, you are 100-percent right. Just because you have Attention Deficit Disorder, doesn’t make you any less of a person. You deserve to be treated with respect, just like everyone else.

Speak up

First and foremost, you have to let your teacher know exactly how you feel. Chances are, she probably thinks she’s acting with your best interest in mind and doesn’t even know she’s humiliating you. Ask your teacher if you can talk to her after school one day. Or, if you’re uncomfortable confronting her face-to-face, write her a letter expressing your feelings. Either way, you have to stand up for yourself.

Just like everybody else

Kindly explain to your teacher that even though you have ADD, you’re not a little kid. You could say, “I understand you think you’re looking out for me, but the way you treat me sometimes is very embarrassing and it makes me feel uncomfortable.” You could also tell your teacher you’re just like other students—you’re smart and you have a job and a learner’s permit. This will help her see you as the responsible young lady you are.

ADD is so common nowadays; there really is no reason for any of your teachers to make you feel different from everyone else.

Keep it together

You may be tempted to throw a fit whenever your teacher or another adult treats you like a kid, but that is not the most effective way to get them to take you seriously. In these types of scenarios, you have to be mature. Your teacher may not change overnight, but hopefully she will make an effort not to single you out. Best of luck, hon!

Lots of love,
L’Oreal

How do I get him alone?

Do you see him at all during school that you could talk to him? Are you in any clubs that he is in so you could talk to him? Or you could just ask him to hang out just the two of you over the phone.

Ok so yesterday I tried out for the talent show with one of my friends. And I have to say- I don't like the song that she picked. I told her she could pick the song and she picked "What If" by PureNRG and it's too late to change the song because we already tried out.
So there's another problem- I have HUGE BIGTIME stage fright. and I don't know how I'm going to do the talent show when I'll most likely faint on stage. So please help and Can somebody answer before Monday?

Hey girl, try to get to know the song better and see if it grows on you. I'm sure it will sound great no matter if you like it or not. Before the talent show try to take a deep breath and relax. Remember you'll be with your friend, and although everyone is looking at you they aren't looking to make fun of you. Don't worry, you'll do great, and if all else fails picture the audience in their underwear to make them seem as exposed as you feel on stage. Good luck!

I posted this the other day.
Okay so I am COMPLETELY head over heels in love
with this guy. He is my friend and today I was hanging out with him and this other girl at lunch time. He got help back so he is in fourth grade even though he is supposed to be in my grade(fifth). Well I had this spray candy and he would take it and then want me to chase him and kind of flirted with me. I REALLY want to ask him out because after this month I am going to summer vacation and then middle school for sixth grade. He said he is going to the same high school as me but not the same middle school. When we were talking about it I said so just this month then you aren't going to see me until high school" he then said "Yah that's gonna suck". What do you think he means? How do I ask him out? He is not the kind of boy who would make fun of me if I asked him out and he said no. He would still be my friend. HOW DO I START A CONVERSATION LEADING TO ASKING HIM OUT??????????????????
Well today at lunch it was just me and him. Well it started at recess he was walking somewhere then saw I wasn't coming so he flirtatiously pulled my sweater and had me come over to where he was. He was really... nice. Well... it even got better at lunch. His teacher asked him to clean out her flower bed and rake the leaves. Well her through a bag at me (I had followed him there) And he said "Don't think your just gonna watch me you are going to be put to work" We ended up get a special prize from 2 teachers for doing that. Oh also at recess he said why are you following then i said because no one in my class really likes me that much at all. He was completely fine with my answer. EACH DAY GETS BETTER!!!!!!! What do I do or say to him? How do I ask him my opinions of me without looking desperate? How do I ask him do be my BF? THANKS SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH THIS REALLY WILL HELP!!!!!!

Well i tihkn the best way to start the convo is to talk about how youre going to miss him next year. Then if you two start talking about how you feel avout each other and memories and such then you could easily slip in a "wanna date." xoxo kerra
