I need to loose 20 pounds. Please don't tell me to not do it, I need to, because I'm superclose to being overweight. My mom is overweight, and I don't wanna end up like her. I need to loose 20 pounds by Christmas. Do you have any advice on how to do it?
2. Whenever I don't eat junk food, I crave it. The cravings for unhealthy food is getting stronger. Instead of snacking on healthy food whenever I crave the unhealthy junk, is there an alternative?

Hey! If you want to lose the weight, try enrolling in an aerobics class or taking up jogging. Find any exercise routine you like and try to do it every day, while continuing to eat healthy meals. The thing is, the more active you are, the more carbs you need, so eating balanced meals is a really important part of weight loss. Here's my advice for the junk food. It takes a lot of self control, but you can do it. Keep eating the junk you love, but control the portions. pour out a small plate of chips instead of gabbing the bag, or have one piece of candy instead of going for the whole bowl. You get that craving curbed, but you're not out of control. good luck!

Hey girlie,

When a woman gets pregnant, they start releasing a hormone that helps their milk duct system grow in their breast tissue.  Basically, it's a system of little tubes that carries milk from little glands {where the milk is made - like our sweat glands or saliva glands} through the nipple.  The muscles all around it help to squeeze the milk out.  Think of how a baby sucks on the end of a bottle - it's that same motion that helps the muscles do their job to feed the baby! Smile

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD Should I take volleyball? My BFF plays it and my mom keeps pressuring me into playing it too. I don't want to copy my friend, but my mom keeps going on and on about how I have a lonely existance, and how soccer isn't as practical because there is only one recreational team in the area that is NOT co-ed. Where I live there are a lot of volleyball places, so that is why my mom wants me to do it. Honestly, I really don't care about doing volleyball or not, but the thing is I don't want to look like a copycat or anything. I don't think my friend would be mad if I did (she has been convincing me for a year to do volleyball) but I want to be my "own" person, so do you think I should do volleyball or not?

 

Hey chica, why can't you play soccer and volleyball? You can play volleyball and still be your own person. Just play because you want to, not because your mom wants you to. Who knows, maybe you'll end up liking it, and be really good. But, if you give it a shot and don't like it, then I'd stick with something that you do like, like soccer. Smile

Hey girl, I feel like it would be the other way usually. Bras def take some getting used to, but after a while, trust me, you wear it so much you think it's weird to be without it. Know, however, the adjustment period is totes normal so don't sweat your feelings.

I am afraid I may have my moms genes when it comes to breast size. She isnt huge and neither am I, and I am so concerned that I wont grow like I want. I know we should all be happy with what we have but bigger boobs is something I want. My bf says he doesnt mind but I know he would rather have them bigger. My friend told me only time will tell until I finish puberty, I guess I am just ranting.

Hey girl! Both are signs of puberty, but that doesn't mean they have to happen at the same time.  Usually they happen at different times for different people...it just depends on YOUR individual body.  You'll develop breasts with time, don't worry. A good way to tell how large your chest will be is looking at other females in your immediate family.  If most women in your family are small chested, then it's likely you will be too.  (not 100% guaranteed, but definitely a good way to estimate)  Being chubby doesn't determine how fast you develop, in fact girls with less body fat, or girls who are undernourished, have a harder time getting their periods and being fertile....making them less likely to develop and experience signs of puberty.

Question my period started yesterday and today it's so heavy I have to change my tampon every 20-40 min this normaly doesn't happen am I inserting my tampon wrong or something. It barely leaked when I was sleeping but when I got up whoosh it cane really fast

Ive like this one guy, lets call him Jay, for a super long time. and one day while we were at this fair, he told me and my friend, Rachelle, that he liked both of us. and he told me that he wasnt ready for a girlfriend. which i was fine with. i didnt know if i was really ready for a boyfriedn. so then i talked to Rachelle and she said that she didnt like Jay and that she wouldnt like Jay since theyve been best friends for a long time and it would be weird if they went out. but then on friday me, rachelle, jay, and a few other people went to a friends house. we started to play truth or dare. and one of my friends who knows that i really like jay dared me to make out with him. i got so mad at her because it didnt feel right because it was my first kiss and because i didnt think that he would want to kiss me since i kind of gave up on the fact that he liked me. but i still kissed him. and then on saturday he asked me out. and of course i said yes. but then i started to feel weird. because the fair was only like three weeks ago and i wasnt sure if he really wanted a girlfriend. i asked all of my friends if they were sure that he really wanted me to be his girlfriend and they said he wouldnt have asked you out if he didnt. but im still wondering if i should break up with him since i dont know if he really wanted to go out with me, or if i should talk to him about it. im just so confused right now.

Just let it go.  I know it sounds easier said than done, but trust me on this one - they already know the dirt, so just laugh it off and go have fun with your friends.  The best way to combat the spread of rumors is to make it appear that they don't affect you.  As long as you stay confident and unfazed, they'll get tired of it and move on to something else!

Almost 10 months ago, one of my best friends phoned me and told me that the guy i had been in love with for years had asked her out. She knew I liked him, so she asked what she should say. I wanted SO badly to tell her to say no, but I told her that she could tell him whatever she wanted, just consider how I feel before she decided. She said ok and hung up. When I went to school, I found out she had said yes. When she confronted me and asked if was ok, I said I was fine and shrugged it off. They've been dating for almost 10 months now, and I CAN'T shrug it off. He treats me like just a friend. He's so cute and nice and funny. But all he cares about is her, and she only agreed to dating him because she thought she "needed a boyfriend" What should I do? I can't take it anymore!




I'm sorry girl, that sounds awful!  You could always try talking to her about it. Tell her that it is unfair to him to date him unless she really likes him.

Some teachers take the easy way out, and tell you to go find websites about certain topics like puberty rather than go over the stuff. Our classes usually went over the subject and then the teacher gave you more online resources to go and learn on our own time.
I hope the book is as good as they say it is and gives real information. And it would be good if they had a section about online links to puberty and body stuff like to GL obviously. There is no reason why we shouldnt know a lot about what we are going through if we just take the time. Alyssa B.

MOD, Okay so me and this guy, Joe, dated before like 10 months, but broke up and he's been dating this other girl, Annie, for like 3 months. Me and Joe have seriously been best friends since kindergarten and have liked each other since then also... Joe told me a few weeks ago that he will always have feelings for me and he loved me, but he is with annie now... and he isn't gonna break up with her. Then he said we should just go back to being best friends we have only talked once or twice since then. Anyways, today during one of my classes, Annie and this other girl were passing a note and I could tell it was about me. I sit behind her so I was reading it over her shoulder. It was talking about how she thinks I am flirting with Joe and how I supposedly "flirt with all the guys" and how she thinks I still like Joe. Out of all people, i can HONESTLY say I don't flirt very much. Then one of my guy friends was sitting on the floor and he asked me to help him up, so i did. Then on the note they wrote "see? point proven " (about the flirting thing) Then the girl she was passing the note with said "I don't see what he sees in her anyways!" and "don't worry, you are WAY more pretty than her". It made me feel horrible. IDK what to do, because the group I'm usually hanging out with is me, my 2 best friends, and annie. We're all close to each other except me and annie... It's just hard for us to be close because we have both liked joe a long time.. Oh, the reason Annie thought I was flirting with Joe was because I was in the hallway during a class filming him answer some questions for this end-of-the-year video I am helping with... We weren't even flirting! What should I say to Annie? Or what should i do? What should I say to Joe? Anything? I'm tired of them saying I like him. I honestly don't wanna date Joe, at least not for a long long time. In the note it said "she says she doesn't like him but idk.." Please help me! :/




Hey girl, just talk to Annie and make things clear. Don't mention the note, but just say hey, things have been kind of weird with us, so I wanted to make sure everything was OK. Make it clear that you're happy she and Joe are together and you're looking just to be friends with him. As for the flirting rumor? Don't sweat it. She's just a little insecure and doesn't mean to hurt you.

MOD MOD So we will be having "the class" in school like next week. My teacher is having 2 of my friends look for PUBERTY websites. What would that be??

 

Hey girl!  I'm not sure exactly what that would be.  She probably means websites with information about puberty.  I would definitely ask the teacher for clarification.

You know what i think is amazing about this magazine? They honestly want to help girls most magazines just do it for money but this magazine has a website that has mods moding 24/7 and they really care about helping girls

I cant believe I havent gotten it yet.

And I hope to get it. Nothing can be better than to be informed about whats going on with puberty and our bodies. I think the more we know the more we might not do stupid things when it comes to relationships and guys.
