Land Perfect Beach Waves!

 
Loved the gorgeous, beachy waves in the June/July issue of GL? Now you can get those laidback (but insanely lovely) locks at home. Here’s the how-to.
 
Start by shampooing and conditioning your hair before you go to bed. Towel- or air-dry your strands until they’re damp, but not totally dry.
 

Work a small amount of wave-enhancing product from root to tip. Right now, we’re loving David Babaii for Wildaid Bohemian Beach Spray ($10, bathandbodyworks.com). It defines curls, kills frizz and isn’t sticky at all.
 
Weave your hair into 4-5 braids and secure the ends with elastics. In the a.m., take out the braids to reveal major texture. Need more bounce? Take a curling iron and curl a few sections to enhance your ’do. So easy.

Remember that some girls' hair isn't naturally wavy so might not be able to achieve this look, but give this alternate technique a try before ya give up!

MOD do I braid it in loose or tight braids




You can try it in both. Loose braids will make it softer waves. Tight braids will make it look crimpier.

MOD! ok so i have REALLY REALLY thick and slightly frizzy hair which flips in and out at random places, about an inch below my shoulders... anyway i tried to scrunch my hair and it turned out similar to what the models hair looks like, except maybe the waves were a little more defined. But it fell TOTALLY flat like an hour and a half later!!! What are some good products to KEEP my hair wavy\scrunched and beachy, that also might kill a little of the frizz??? Thanks!

 

 

Hey girly girl! For scrunching my hair, I swear by Aussie's Catch the Wave line. I believe that's what it's called. Love it! Also, don't be afraid to use hairspray. And, carry some with your throughout the day for touch-ups in the bathroom Smile

Hey chica! Maybe, you could have your hairstylist talk to your mom and let her know that it's not damaging if you flat iron in moderation. Also, you could ask her if you could get a heat protectant to spray on your hair before.

I have really straight hair, and it is practically impossible for me to get waves! Even when I braided it overnight and take it out in the morning, it is still very wavy (more like a couple dents in my hair). I guess I'll just have to stick with the heat for now.

Hey chica! You could always run out to JoAnn Fabrics, or another store, and grab some princess-esque fabric to use as a skirt. Or, you could just wear your fanciest/girliest dress with the crown. You could be a modern princess! As for your hair, I would wear it down and flowy with your crown, and maybe some girly pinkish makeup and lipgloss Smile

I'm going to the beach on Sunday and I don't know what to wear. Where I live, the beaches are cold, so are there any warm beach-appropriate clothes I can wear? hey! if you just leave the braids in without the product, It'll probably lose the wavy look more quickly. I'd say use the product, and the results will last longer. Good luck!

Try not making the braids so tight. leave them a little loose for a more relaxed look. You can also try tousling products, like Herbal Essences "Tousle Me Softly" hair mousse.

Hey girl! If you have naturally curly hair, it might be hard to make it wavy. You could try a hair gel to create wavy hair, apply and let your hair air dry and see what happens.

okay MOD my hair is SO wierd its like semi straight and its kind of limp but not as much as it just curls OUT on the ends and i HATE that!!! do you think it does that cuz i have a tiny bit longer than shoulder length hair? grr i dont know anyway do you think this will work on my hair too? since i dont even have like partly curly hair?
oh and also, i have dark dark brown hair.. so dark its black when its wet. i have a round face i think, and serioiusly NO cheekbones... oh and theres red in my hair, just a hint of it, should i dye it black? like i said before, its slightly longer than shoulder length, no bangs. or should i just get highlights? or nothing? and should i get my hair styled diffferently, as in bangs or shorter or extensions or something? wow thats a lot so just answer what you can... Hey! So you want a change, but your not sure what you want to do? I definitely would not dye your hair black, the color of your hair sounds beautiful! If you want to experiment with different things, get advice and suggestions from your friends and family! They know you best! I was thinking about getting a perm. I know that a few girls in my school have a perm and they look good. I want like Taylor Swift waves. I have thin, straight blond hair about two inches past shoulder length. Will a perm work or will it just look all puffy like a poodle? Also can I straigten a perm without damaging it if I wanted to? Hey girl, it might be a little puffy because your hair is so short: curls spring up. Be wary of perms too. They are permanent and the chemicals can be really harsh on your hair. Instead, I suggest sleeping in curlers to get an idea of how curls will look: that way too you can have your straight texture still if you want it.

another way to get beach waves or taylor swifts hair is to use a curying iron with no clamp and put the iron in th oppisite hand and bring the iron behind your head and rap ur hair around and hold for 15 sec and relse into hand and hold curl and relase sloly but make sure u use iron guard so u dont burn r hair more hair andvice and tips comment on my prifile

Hey girl!  My fave hairspray is Dove, because it doesn't make your hair too crunchy but it holds styles in place.  As for frizz, you might want to try a frizz serum, like the one on this page:  http://www.girlslife.com/post/2010/07/16/hair-products-accessories.aspx.

Hey girlie, your hair is definitely long enough. Try using more braids and braiding your hair in smaller sections so that all of your hair is wavy and there's no need for a curling iron!

my hair so sooooooooooooooooooo frizzy. if i try to curl it, as soon as im done with the last curl the first ones are already out. it takes me an hour to straighten my hair. i usually get frustrated and end up putting it into a pony tail. what is an easy, non-time consuming way to get non frizzy hair?

 

Maybe you could look for a shampoo that tackles frizz or a straightening cream. I'm not sure if they work, but it's worth a try!

Hey girlie, maybe you should try a different style instead. If the waves make your hair poofy then it might just not work in your hair.

Mod- I bought this eyeshadow from a place called Ulta. On it it says baked eyeshadow and under that it says sweet dreams. It's a pink eyeshadow on one side and the other has gold and blue...I don't know how to wear it! It didn't come w/ any thing so I think you use your fingers to apply it... Hey girlie, if the eyeshadow doesn't come with a brush then you need to buy a brush. You can buy a small brush set at a makeup store so that you can wear your eyeshadow.

I have stick straight hair, it's very thin and has no volume at all. Whenever I try to curl it with a curling iron the waves only last about a half hour, and then my hair becomes straight again. I've tried wave/volume enhancing conditioners and shampoos, but nothing works. I am willing to try the instructions on the article, but I'm not sure if it'll work. What do you suggest?

MODMOD i've tried soooo many ways to make my hair wavy. my hair is controllably curly but i want it to just be wavy! i've put special cream in my hair, i've braided it, but the ends of me hair get very dry from putting elastic bands at the bottom.. do u know anything that will help my hair? also why do the ends of my hair get dry and stiff from putting my hair in braids with elastic bands at the end? (i was trying to get waves)




Hey girl, sometimes it's hard to get your hair to go in textures it doesn't want to. I have pin straight hair, and I can't get wave or curl to stay in it unless I use a curling iron. You could try brushing it out so it doesn't get completely curly, but has a little texture. Try a few different things to see what works. Putting your hair in braids may dry it out, and that's why it gets stiff.

Hey girl! A lot of the time, you think everyone is judging you so much, when really you are the only one who notices. There are many styles of ponytails, so if you want to try a ponytail, here are some good ways that I think will look good on everyone. If your hair is medium length or long, you can put it back in a low ponytail and pull it over to one side of your head. Your hair can be wavy or straight for this look. Try it and let us know how it looks!

What i do is ussually get up in the morning and get a shower and comb my hair (in the shower) after or while washing out my conditioner.. then when i'm drying off I wrap my long hair into a towel.. once I've gotten dresssed and such i take down my towel and my hair is damp and wavey. Then i put a little bit of mouse in it and i let it dry! very easy.. and pretty!

My cousin has straight/wavy, thick, frizzy hair and she recently got it cut to her shoulders. Then she put this special mousse stuff in it and BOOM, it turned curly and cute! It don't get how that's possible but I want to be able to do the the same thing with my hair except without the curly part because my hair is already curly.
I have thick, curly, out of control hair that goes down below my shoulder blades. It is kinda light brown/dark strawberry blonde if you know what i mean...
Anyways, I want to be able to just do something quick and easy with my hair, like my cousin did with the mousse, to give it some style and something different. If you know of any awesome hair products that will give some style to my crazy hair that would be great! I want it to be relaxed and wavy-ish and easy to handle so I don't have to spend an hour doing it every morning and so I don't have to shower every day in order to do it. I wanna just be able to wake up comb it and be done.

Ponytails are very in right now. Maybe try adding a clip or a cute hair-tie to jazz it up a little bit.

I have been so extremely bored as of lately. It's the (almost) 4th day of summer break and I have nothing to do.

Hey girl, why not try asking your 'rents to take you to a nearby museum or the park? A change in scenery can def help beat the boredom blues. If going on a day trip is out of the question, why not try having a bake sale or snowcone stand? The twist is all profits go to charity. Make signs and delicious goods from a recipe book that will wow everyone. And after that? Curl down with a great book!

Hey girl, honestly, the best thing you can do is take care of your hair. Trims are a part of this -- getting rid of the dead ends helps your hair grow. Aside from that, just wash it regularly, comb and brush it daily and keep your strands healthy. Besides that, patience is key.

As long as you can get your hair into braids, it should work fine!  If pieces stick out a little, that should be okay too.  If you are putting it into braids, you probably don't need to scrunch too much - just a little to make sure the product sets in evenly.  xoxo

I know how that goes - it's easy to get frustrated when you stand out.  But you have to remember, that's actually a really great thing!  The things that make you unique make you beautiful (and some girls probably wish they were tall like you!).  If your friends tease you, you can ask them to stop.  Otherwise, remember that being tall isn't the only thing about you - there are so many things that make you an awesome and beautiful girl, even if you feel awkward sometimes.

There are lots of great options for graduation 'dos!  A half up-do or bun would be really pretty.  You could also wear it down, with curls, a headband, or pretty clips.

~MOD~MOD~MOD~ I'm going into my freshman year this upcoming school year. I had a rough time at my previous school because "I wasn't being myself" I really want to express the new me. I tried to at my old school but people didn't like me for who I was on the inside... they just liked the outside. I changed myself back to the boring old me after I went thrugh some personal issues. I'm not being who I really am at this point in my life. I'm just scared that if I change looks wise, people won't accept me for the new me and I'll go through what I did at my previous school. Hey girl!  I'm not totally sure, but since you start out with wet hair and work in braids, I think it should work with any hair type!  You just might not need to use a curling iron at the end, since your hair already has some natural curls in it!

If your hair is long enough to get braids in, I think it should work!  If not, you could try it without the braids, and just use the spray.

MOD MOD i dont know what to do. My hair is super thick and it is hard to get all of the shampoo out of it so it gets really heavy itchy and gross. It is fairly long and it is really pretty long, but i think i might have to get it cut short so it is easier to do. I really want to keep it long but i cannot stand my hair. Is there anyway i can keep it long but not so itchy/and thick?

 

Hey girl, I'm sorry to hear about the hair troubles.  If you haven't yet, I would try switching shampoos (this article: http://www.girlslife.com/post/2010/03/12/shampoo-for-problem-hair.aspx).  If dandruff is causing the itch, you might want to try a product specifically for that.  Next time you go into your haircut, you could ask your stylist if she has suggestions for products, or even a new (but still long!) do that might work better for your hair type.

that hairdo is sooooooooo cute! id think i can do that with my hair, my big, stupid, puffy hair. Frown MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!! i have 2 questions: 1. I broke up with my bf for many reasons (mostly cuz of my stressin and the end of the year and blah blah blah.)and he still likes me alot. i kinda feel bad now, and we r still friends but im wonderin if it'll screw up the group of friends we r in. help please. 2. i like this guy, i mean, i REALLY like this guy. we have already went out, and he dumped me (why? i have no clue, he wont tell me anything), but i am still really in love with him. i feel as if he could could hurt me a million times or slap me in the face or somethin, and i would still love him. letting him go is mentally impossible. my friend feels the same way as i do for the guy she likes. is there anything we can do? nobody but us gets why we feel this way.

 

1)      I know it can feel super-awkward to be around your ex-bf, especially if you guys are in the same group of friends.  It's understandable that he feels disappointed, but you don't need to feel bad for it.  Just keep being friendly and polite when you two are in the same group.  Eventually, he will move on, and the awkwardness will be gone.
2)      You and your bud are not alone - lots of girls have crazy crushes they feel no one would understand!  It's only a problem if the guy is bad to you, or it's stopping you from other possibilities with guys that would be better for you.  Just keep hanging out with your buds and doing things you enjoy.  You might meet new guys, but you will also just have a great time (and not be too hung up on your crushes).

Hey girl!  It's normal for your period to be somewhat irregular during the first two years, when your bod is still adjusting.  This article:  http://www.girlslife.com/post/2008/07/23/003-Period-Advice.aspx explains a little more about normal cycles.  It might be that your bod is still adjusting.  Still, definitely keep track of your cycle, and if you have any more concerns, definitely check in with your doc.  xoxo

Ok so, this new kid came to my class about two weeks ago. My best friend and I both like him. This other girl found him on facebook and added him. My friend and i added him too. By then it was well known that my friend liked him, but nobody knew i did. At first he declined the requests, but we both sent him another one. The girl that originally added him fund out and told him to add us. he did. My friend who also likes him sent him like 2 messages and tried to talk to him on facebook, but he said he didn't want to talk and refused to talk to her. She got kinda mad and kept talking about it to him. (in other words being annoying) So today, she said something about it to him again and he deleted her as a friend on fb. She got mad and begged me to tell him a message. At first i was reluctant, but then sent what she wanted. I was afraid he would get even more mad and annoyed. Maybe even delete me. So after i sent it he said "okay well I guess I'm gonna have to delete this one too" and DELETED ME! Now I'm really mad at my friend for making me do it when i didn't want to and causing him to delete me. I'd send him a message explaining it, but 1. he doesn't read the messages he gets and 2. i don't want to annoy him more. I don't want to be mad at my friend cause she's had a rough week, but it really upset me. she asked me if i would forgive her and i said maybe. I know i should forgive her, but once again, im very upset. Help? WHat should I do?

Hey girl, you should try to not be too upset with your friend, she was really into this guy and that makes you kind of crazy. You should explain to her that you didn't like being put in that position. It's no fun to be the messenger who gets hurt in the process. But this is just some guy, your best friend is more important! If the time is right try telling him in school what happened, so he can understand more. But don't worry about it too much, you were just trying to be a good friend! Good luck!

Hey girl, using a product will definitely work better, but you could try just showering before bed, tying your damp hair in braids, and sleeping on it. If your hair already has a lot of texture already don't do too many braids though. Good luck!

Hey girl, you're not being paranoid at all. Skin cancer and sun damage is a BIG deal, and you're very smart for taking precautions to protect yourself. It's okay to go outside and enjoy sunny days, but you should always wear sunscreen to protect you from bad burns and damage to your body.
