I'm going to a new school!

I’m graduating this year and going on to high school. I go to private school now, and most of my friends will be going to a private high school, but I’m going to public high school. I’ll miss everyone. How do I say goodbye in a way that’s not just goodbye forever?

Hey girl, I totally know what you mean. Last year I was in the exact same place when I graduated high school and this year too as I’m transferring to a different university in a different state! Saying good-bye is never easy, but my advice to you? Don’t look at it as the end because it’s totally not. There’s summer, sleepovers and new chances to hang together. It’s never good-bye, just see you later.

Memories Last Forever

It’s the last day of school, and it’s getting to the point you’re supposed to say good-bye. Come prepared. I wrote my friends letters about how much they meant to be because I knew I wouldn’t be able to express everything I wanted to say to them in person. The last day of middle school is really emotional for everyone (trust me, I remember), and it totally helped.

Be sure to hug them and thank them for the friendship they gave you. If you can, put together a scrapbook or little gift for your closest buds. What makes each friend special? Make sure they know.

The Buried Life, Summer Edition

Remember, next school year hasn't started yet! Make a list of all the things you want to do with your friends during the summer and do them! My friends and I went to a lot of museums near the school I went to -- we focused on savoring our time together and making memories.

A New Kind of Friendship

Middle school may be over, but your friendship def is not. Even though you may be at different schools, think of this as a chance to broaden your friend horizons, not give up your old ones. For me next year, I know I’m still going to see the friends I made this year when I visit my old school -- you can do that too, à la summer sleepovers, parties and outings. Your friends are closer than you think and through Skype, Facebook, texting and visits, staying in touch is way easy.

In summary, stay positive and know it’s not good-bye. The people you want to keep in your life can def stay there -- you just have to be creative. Seize the days you have left, make sure your friends know how much they mean to you and figure out fun ways to stay connected this summer.

It’s never easy to leave something you know behind, but the future is bright, girlie, and these people from your past can still be a part of it! When you approach these last days of the school year, remember it’s not good-bye forever but hello to a new friendship!

Infinite xoxo’s,
Alyssa B.
