No one wants to get hurt but, when you avoid relationships, you miss out on the great things about getting close to people. Truth is, there’s a chance someone, whether a boy or a bud, will hurt you at some point in life.

Still, the risk is worth it because you’ll make strong ties along the way and learn about interacting with others. So, slowly allow yourself to open up. If a guy treats you well, soften up. Be cautious, just not rock-solid.

MOD MOD MOD!! I am confused about boys. I think some are cute, but I don't really want anything other than to be friends. All my friends have boyfriends, but I'm a year younger then them because I skipped a grade! What do I do about boys?!? And some have asked me out how not to be awkward??

Hey girl,

That's ok! Some girls just want to date and don't need to feel a real connection with a guy in order to do so, while others are a bit more picky and don't want to date until they are sure they've found a guy they really like. Both ways are "right" - so it's fine! Be friends with them and support your friends in their relationships. One will come along for you in time if you don't want to date them and they ask you to, just be honest. Let them know you don't feel like dating is right for you at the moment, but you think they're great and would love to stay friends. Be friendly and polite - it'll work out!

Mod I'm really confused. My mom wont make up her mind on when I can date, first she's like: You can date whenever you want, Sophia. And then she's all like: No boys until high school. And then again, she's like: So, do you have a boyfriend yet? Because if you don't you can get one any time. I want a boy friend but I'm afraid that my mom is going to tell everybody and I'll be really embarrassed. Plus, I don't want my dad to know. I don't want him to be disappointed in me. Is there a way to ask my mom if I can date without sounding to desperate to have one? ♥Sophia
