"Bikini season" makes me self-conscious!

With the weather warming up and "bikini season" here, I get self-conscious about my body. I'm at a healthy weight, but I'm bigger than most of my friends. I do crunches and ab workouts but nothing seems to help. What am I supposed to do to lose weight and get my stomach flatter?

Hey girl!

Feeling confident about your body can be really tough -- especially during bikini season. It's important to remember, though, that feeling good about yourself is way more important that worrying what other people think of you! Don't push yourself to be the same size as your friends -- everyone's body is unique, and if you're a healthy weight, then that's all that really matters.

Keep up the good work

Keep on exercising and eating well, because those things are important to keep you healthy. But instead of focusing on losing weight during your workouts, think about how you're keeping your body healthy and feeling good. That's way more important than numbers on a scale! You'll feel better about yourself and more confidence if you feel good about your body and proud of the way you're taking care of it!

Find a suit that flatters you

If you're too self-conscious in a bikini, then don't wear one! There's no rule that says you have to, and finding a suit that looks great on you and makes you feel good about yourself will make your summer way more fun. No one wants to spend their day at the beach worrying about how they look, and you can find super cute one-pieces and tankinis that are just as stylish as a bikini!

There's no comparison

Stop comparing yourself to your friends! Everyone is unique, and different people have different body types and weights. If you're at a healthy weight, congratulations! You should be proud of the body that you have, and not worry so much about how you compare to other people.

Everyone gets self-conscious about their bodies sometimes, but as long as you're keeping yourself healthy, you should feel good about yourself! If you're exercising and eating well, keep it up, but don't overdo it just to lose a couple extra pounds -- it's not worth it.

I used to work out with my mom, and I loved my bod so much! I was in great shape. So I thought, "why do I need to keep exercising?" So I stopped. And I've gained weight. I'm still a healthy weight, but I'm right at the line of over weight. I don't know I ever stopped exercising. I tried to exercise with my mom on Tuesday, and I thought I was gonna die. And I gave up like half way through. How can I get myself motivated to start workingout again, and get back into great shape?
Thanks(:

Hey Girl--

once you stop it can be hard to start again. Why not set a goal-- like looking amazing in your bathing suit? Or improving your mile time? That's great your mom is a workout buddy!!

good luck--

When Summer comes around I want to swim alone with my family. I don't like to be at community pools with people and I fell like my butt is hanging out my swimsuit. It makes me feel wierd PLEASE HELP!

Hey girl,

Maybe your problem is your confidence when you're wearing the suits you have. Next time summer is getting close, I would buy a new bathingsuit that you feel GREAT in! If you feel like your butt is hanging out or are otherwise focused on your suit, you won't be able to focus on having fun.

Mod! PLEASE..... This is tough for me. Tough to put in words anyway. Lately I haven't been eating... at all. I eat breakfast, maybe two bites of lunch, and enough dinner to please my parents. I just don't want to worry them. Yesterday, I had a "light" (what I call huge, but others call small) snack and hated myself. I ended up cutting. I knew my family would freak out, so I did it on my ankle to hide it. I've been super depressed and I've had no self confidence lately. To put it in a sentance: I hate myself. I can't tell anyone, it'll get around to my mom and she'll take me to the doctor or worse the hospital (I'm on over 8 different medications, I don't need more). I don't want to be in the spotlight or be given attention but I want to stop feeling like this. What can I possibly do?? thanks ~K

Hey chica. First of all, I give you so much credit for being able to admit all of that. I know it's tough, and you're doing the right thing by asking for help. As for your eating problem, you must know that it's not healthy. Trust me, I know. My mom died of anorexia. It started when she was young, in high school, and she just could never overcome it. And I don't want that to happen to you. So please, try talking to a guidance counselor at school, or a teacher that you trust, if not your parents. I know that you don't want to worry your parents, but it'll worry them even more if you have to go into the hospital because you get sick or malnourished. And the same goes for your cutting. You NEED to talk to someone about this. In addition to talking to someone, there are plenty of support groups online and forums where you can talk to people just like you. Check out this page for some ideas for recovery.

Also, you can contact your local hospital, or a therapist to see if they know of any cutting support groups in your area (which I'm sure there are). Please take care of this now chica.

I'm really boney and feel uncomfertable in swimsuits. Will I get less boney as I get older or will I always be this way?

hey! That depends, everyone has a different body type. People tend to shed baby fat in puberty, so unless you eat really junky food you'll probably stay bony. Embrace it, and eat more if you want to gain a few pounds Smile

Mod,
I recently gained some weight in my stomache. I don't have a scale so I don't know how much. I don't think I'm overwight now but I was wondering, are bmis and weight charts always accurate or is it possible to be more than they is good and still be a healthy weight????

Girl! it is definitely okay to weigh more then the "average". However, your doc should tell you if you are not in a healthy condition. Don't worry about this though, gaining a couple lbs is nothing to fret over!
