My friends talk about me behind my back...

…then lie and say they are not talking about me when I know they are. It hurts, and I don’t know what to do.

With a small, tiny exception (the Pope, maybe?) most people occasionally talk behind others’ backs. It’s not a nice reality, but humans have an inclination to gossip—whether the tone of the conversation is totally harmless or kinda mean.

Sometimes, a conversation that starts out with perfectly fine intentions can turn into something else entirely. Find out the nature of what your friends have been dishing about. Just some rude comments about, say, your new ’do? It hurts, but it happens.

If it makes you feel better, confront them with a cool head. Tell them you know what they’ve been saying and that if they have something to say about you, you’d like to hear it directly. Then shrug it off. On the other hand, if they are being downright malicious, find new buds. You don’t need “friends” who make you feel bad about yourself.
