What if I get my period at the pool?

 
I’ve been invited to a bunch of pool parties this summer. What if I have my period? I’m scared of tampons.

Tampons can be super scary at first. But, if you want to swim during your period, tampons are a must.
 
Wigged out about the possibility of toxic shock syndrome? “The risk is extremely small, especially if you don’t keep a tampon in for more than several hours at a time,” says gynecologist Dr. Janet Rubin.
 
Dr. Rubin suggests trying a slender tampon on a day of full flow sometime before the first pool party. So by the time bikini season rolls around, you’ll be a pro.

i started my period today (its not my first or anything) but i have to babysit from 730-530 tomorrow. the kids i babysit are super active so i cant really just sit on the couch. how many pads/tampons should i bring and how often should i change? also do you think getting paid 50 dollars for two boys for that long is enough? thanks!




Hey girl! I would suggest changing your tampon about every 4 hours or whenever it is completely used.  Babysitting rates vary everywhere so I would ask your friends what they would make for a similar job. xxoo

I've never used tampons before. I would get so scared to insert one. Plus, if I'm having my period and we're gonna go swimming, I'm probably not gonna have some, 'cause my mom says I don't need them, but I know I do. Ugh!

I am so scared to use a tampon I have some when ever i look at the box i get scared that it going to hurt! I going swimming tomorrow so please help. Also i am sleeping over at my friends house and she has two brother how do i hide the evidence???

 

Hey girl, I totally know how you feel - I was nervous about it at first, too, but it gets easier.  Check out this article for a helpful how-to:   http://www.girlslife.com/post/2009/06/23/007-Period-Advice.aspx.  As for "hiding the evidence," store them in a make-up bag in whatever bag/purse you're bringing.  When it's time to dispose, wrap it up in toilet paper and throw it in the trash can - do NOT flush it down the toilet!  xoxo
