Make Your BBQ a Blast (and Still Totally Healthy!)

Sunny skies means oodles of BBQs, and plenty of buffet tables filled with yummy foods. But with loads of sun and tons of not-so-nutritious treats, what's a healthy gal to do? Follow our cinchy steps for making your summer bashes a li'l better for ya...while still having an amazing time.

Get Active
Don't just sit there! Join up with the crew who's playing backyard volleyball or strike up a Wiffle ball tourney. Whatever it is, make a point to move around at the party. If you're gonna be in the car all day heading on vacay, consider getting some running around in before you leave the house. Go for a bike ride or a jog or a walk around the block. It'll make hours in the car less of a pain.

Eat the Fresh Stuff
OK, so you know eating fruits and veggies is key. Today, try to scope the freshest finds on the table. Go for the crisp green salad over the potato salad (which is likely swimming in mayo). Sliced fruit is a better option than, say, strawberry parfaits. If you're noshing sandwiches, load up on tomatoes, lettuce, cukes and all kindsa crunchy vegetables.

Skip Sugary Drinks
If you're out under the hot sun, you need to stay hydrated. Breeze by way-sugary lemonade, soda and sweet tea and opt for straight-up water. You'll feel way better and drink less sugar. It's A-OK to indulge from time to time (yum, Dippin' Dots!), but why fill your body with unnecessary sugar or high fructose corn syrup?

Slather on the sunscreen and get out there, girl!
