  • Make money, hunnie! How to turn your hobbies into hundreds

  • Find a job this summer! Step one: Ready your resume
Is summer already a bummer ’cause you and your BFF are low on dough? Cheer up, chica—GL’s got your money-makin’ hookup. Grab your broke bestie and start workin’ down our no-fail list for padding both your bank accounts. With hard work and a ready-for-anything attitude, you’ll have enough for a serious back-to-school shopping splurge.

PARTY FOR PROFIT
You and your girl have mad babysitting skills—why not work ’em in a new way by becoming birthday party assistants? Let the moms in your neighborhood know you’re sooo up for blowing up balloons, carving cake, scoopin’ ice cream and playing games with their rugrats. You and your BFF can charge around $50 a party, which really adds up if you’re bookin’ multiple bashes in a week (easy to do once word gets out about your fabulously festive ways).

SHAMPOO THAT SHELTIE
A neighborhood dog wash can earn you and your girl major Lincolns. Make signs advertising your pup primp, and set up your driveway with doggie shampoo, a hose and buckets. Before ya know it, you and your BFF will be sudsin’, rinsin’ and stylin’ Fidos all day. Charge around $10 a dog to build a swell cash stash to divvy up! Make it a weekly thing to see the moolah multiply.

GET RICH ON RADISHES
Bet every neighbor on your block would love a gorge garden, but many adults lack the time to tend one. Here’s where you and your BFF swoop in. Knock on doors (only the people ya know!), and offer your services as the Go-To Gardenin’ Gals. Set up a daily schedule to water posies, yank weeds and plant veggie seeds (radish and spinach will sprout great come fall). For your labor, charge each neighbor $15 a week—you’ll have  steady income all summer long and get to bank some major time in the great outdoors. Go ahead and offer mowing services, too, for even more buckage—it’s not a job just for the boys, you know!

HULA FOR MOOLA
Wanna give back? You and your BFF can raise cash to donate to a charity in your orbit by hula hooping—yep, you read that right—for dollars. Ask your friends, fam and neighbors to sponsor you (and as many buds as you can recruit) for, say, $10 every half hour. Then, bright and early on a weekend morning, hit your backyard, and hula for as long as you can (your sponsors and fans can come by and watch). Don’t forget to take a 10-minute break between hula sessions! When your hips have had it, call it a day, count the cash and pass it along to you and your bestie’s fave organization. Awesome!

MODMODMOD How can I get a paper route?

That's a great question - I'm not entirely sure!  I think your best bet would be to look in your newspaper.  Check the classifieds, and see if they have any postings about a paper route job opening.  If not, the paper might have contact info somewhere where you can call/e-mail to see about the job.  Ask a parent or adult if you need some help.  Good luck!

I'm 12 and when my neighborhood does garage sales i do one with some neighbors and my sister they are all 8/9 but the good thing is that they do little things like make lemondade. Some food ideas would be:popcorn(if you have a machine),Chips(buy a big box of chips from costco by the way look at the unit price so you know you can make more money then what you bought it for do that for EVERYTHING),Cookies(easy but tasty),Rice crispe treats, animal crackers(little kids love them) and there are tons of things you can do.Drinks(make sure you have cups):Lemonade,kool-aid,water bottles, and much more. What type of stuff to sell:you can just do food or you can sell:Old cd's,computer games,DVD's,dolls, toy cars, any little or big things you don't use. Pricing:Think about what it is worth...if someone makes a bad offer don't do it just cause PRICE THING AHEAD OF TIME...normally do a few bucks a thing like a old CD maby 2 bucks. SOME TOYS FROM KIDS MEALS SELL FOR A GOOD PRICE i a cd for $5(:

I'm months away from getting a car, and I want to get a job somewhere but don't know where to start. Where should I begin in my job search?

Look for locally own businesses near your home so you're not spending too much on gas driving back and forth. Ice cream shops, boutiques, cafes, hostessing at restaurants, etc. are great for first jobs!

Ok, I live in the middle of no-where and have like, 2 neighbors within a mile. None of my reletive's live in town either . Any idea's on making money? Sorry I wasn't clear in thwe other post. I also like to make and sell things... but where to sell? It's against rules to sell at school.

Oh, sorry— I didn't see the title of this article until you mentioned that! Maybe you could try to sell things at a Farmer's Market or flea market kind of place, if they have that by you (?) or you could talk to your parents about selling things online if you have the type of things that you could sell on the Internet. (Most sites require you to be 18+ to get an account, so I would definitely ask them if that's OK.) You could also ask your parents if there are any extra chores you can do for money around the house (in addition to chores you might already have that are unpaid).

1. Do a regualar laptop costs less than a notebook one?
2. I know it's costs alot, I need some ways to earn money(we are much of a stay in family and we know no one in our neighbor and we don't wanna) thanks!

Hey girl, notebooks are usually better in terms of battery life and size. Although I'm a Mac person, so I stick with the Macbooks which are awesome. Especially for art. -- I would say, look at your local mall or grocery store f or some jobs. They might have some openings! =]

You seem to have the right idea. Why don't you do that? For other fun spontaneous things, check out the internet or talk to your friends. One idea would be to hold a lemonade stand with your friends. Its really fun, you meet new people, and you get some money from it!

when will i get my period my mom and sister got theirs when they were 12 and im 12. My sister got hers at the same time as now when she was 12, and I haven't gotten it yet. I have pubic hair and discharge but am completely flat chested!! I'm short and everybody thinks im like a baby... like 10 but im not and its SOOOOOOOOOO annoying!!Help when will i get my period (about, please don't say you never know its a suprise) and tips for helping people realize im growing up iv tried talking to them... thanks

Hey girl, I hate to say it, but you really don't know. You can't control when your period starts unfortunately, and it really does take everyone by surprise. What you can do is be prepared and know you're close to getting your period. Know also that just because your mom and sis both got theirs at 12 doesn't mean you will: when your period starts is not at all genetic. As for getting people to realize you've grown up, well, that's simple: to be treated like an adult, act like an adult. Be careful with what you say, be mature and treat others civilly. That, in return, will get you that same respect back.

How do I become a mod? I really really want to be one and help girls!

Hey girl, that's a great thing to aim for in the future! A couple things to take note of, though: mods must be 18 or older. Most mods get their start by interning at our offices in Baltimore, Md. I believe you can send your resume to an editor who may consider you without an internship, but you're much more likely to get the position by getting your foot in the door as an editorial intern at GL. Chances are, however, that you're a bit young right now so you can always offer advice to girls on your profile page in the meantime. For more info on internships and modding, check out this page: http://www.girlslife.com/page/Intern-at-Girls-Life.aspx

im 14 and i still cry pretty easily. im not exactly a crybaby, but when i get really mad with my parents or if something happens that makes me mad/sad, i cry. i dont want to but the tears just come out! i've tried counting to 10 and breathing deeply, trying to pass it off as a yawn....i'm getting frustrated with this! help please! thanks!

Hey girl, unfortunately sometimes crying is something you can't control when you're worked up. The solution, however? Know when to leave a situation. If you're arguing with your parents, for example, and you see the direction it's headed, leave the room and compose yourself. It's a bit of an exercise, but the fact you've realized you cry a lot and are taking steps to remedy the situation is a big first step in the right direction. (P.S. Know it is OK to cry sometimes. It's cathartic.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD!!! HELP!
Ive gone boy-crazy! From 1st-6th grade i HATED boys, thought they were gross and annoying. And what i regret now is i used to make fun of a boy in 4th grade and now hes been by crush since 7th grade! Im going to 8th now! I dont know if he remebers when i see next year if he is in my class ( he never has b4) one of bff loved him sooo much in 5th grade! but now the problem is i like guys kinda TOO much? well now i at school i have 2 crushes i think about them all the time! and the bad part is they dont talk to me at all! and they dont have a FB! so what can i do to take my mind off them and guys all togetther? thx

Hey girlie,

Relaxxxxx - going from hating boys to liking boys is SO normal! That's what happens to almost all of us as we grow up. As for the boy you used to make fun of...he might remember, but most people also know that a lot can happen in 4 years. People grow up, people change, and people learn a lot about themselves. I'm not saying he'll automatically forgive you, but if you treat him well now and respect him, it'll be ok. As for forgetting how much you like guys - you can try, but it's better to just fill your life with things to balance it out. You're always gonna be crushin on guys, so rather than trying to suppress that, just spend more of your time doing other things. Take up a sport or join a new club. Find a new hobby you've always wanted to try or an instrument you've always wanted to learn. Call your girlies and have a girls night. All of these things will remind you that there is more to life than just boys...but they can add a lot of fun to our lives too Smile

Hey chickie,

If you want a new backpack this much, why not save up for one yourself? You can buy them at any time of year {not just back-to-school time}, so save your allowance and gift money, then do your research - find the best prices, the most durable brands, and your fave design/color. Then present all the info to mom and ask her to take you to get your own! You'll like it even more if you buy it yourself... you earned it! Smile

Hey girl,

Fishy smells and itchy sensations are major hints that something is wrong. You don't have those, so relax! Light yellow discharge is actually as common as white or clear discharge, which is natural for our bodies to produce. As long as the discharge doesn't turn darker {or into another color like green}, you're ok Smile

worst cramps ever 2day! What helps?

Ouchhh, totally been there! Grab some Midol and take it with a big glass of water, then cozy up in bed in some pajamas with a hot water bottle/microwavable hot compress. The heat relaxes your muscles and helps take some of the pain away. My favorite thing to do is to watch movies I love and eat my fave foods - it might not scientifically help with the pain, but it takes my mind off it!
