This is exactly the opposite problem for me, I need
to gain weight, I got high metabolism, everyone tells
me tht I look like I didn't eat for months! I eat
regularly! Sometimes I skip meals, sometimes I eat
junk food, I wanna be healthy not a too skinny girl!
Plus some girls in my skool even said, youre the
skinniest person I ever met, but alas you can
charm every cutie in our school without noticing!
Ugh! Plz help! My doctor even said I need to eat more!
EVERYBODY TELLS ME!

I think asking your doc what he would suggest is a good idea. But if you want to gain weight then it's not a good idea to be skipping meals.

Hey chica! Did you see where I answered this when you posted it before? If not, you can always add some more activity to your daily routine. Cut out most of the junkfood that you eat, and replace it with healthy treats, like fruits. Play a sport with a friend, walk your dog if you have one, jump some rope, or do a workout or dancing video after school each day. Find a fun way to get moving Smile

And, just so you know, losing weight fast is never healthy. The faster you lose it, the less likely you are to keep it off.

MOD MOD MOD Dear MOD, I am 13, in the 8th grade, and weigh 135 pounds!! I am bigger than most girls in my class (expesially in my waist line!) and it makes me super self consious. I looked at the BMI calculator and it said I should weigh 110! I need a way to lose 20 pounds FAST! Help!!!

 

 

Hey chica! First of all, FAST weight loss is unhealthy, and the faster you lose it, the more likely you are to gain it back. Slow and steady wins the race, right? Start adding more activity and exercise into your schedule. Walk around your neighborhood with a friend each afternoon, or take your dog for a daily walk. Join a gym, or rent/buy a workout video. And, cut out fast food from your diet. You can eat it every now and then, but on a daily basis, you shouldn't drink soda, eat fast foods, or other junk excessively. Add some fruits and veggies to your diet. And, try some new recipes at home with your mom for dinner Smile

Hey girl!  Eating a variety of nutritous foods and exercising - especially a mix of cardio and strength - is the best way to have a healthy and toned bod.  GL has lots of great workouts that you can try.  But also, remember that everybody "jiggles" a little - it's totally normal!

Hey all!
A little healthy food advice, building on what Becca G said with example (moi)...
I am a pescetarian. Basically, that means I eat seafood, but no other meat. My mom actually had a pescetarian pregnancy, so I have never had land meat. I have been skinny (in a healthy way, just lower part of healthy) all my life... just this year I was actually TRYING to gain weight so I could ride in the front seat! So if you're thinking about making a healthier change to your diet, go pescetarian.
Another little tip about healthier diet: For 'painless' fruits and veggies, mash up or shred some and add to your regular home-cooked food. You will hardly even notice it! Also try getting veggie pizzas when you do have pizza.

Hey girly girl! It all depends on how much you weight now and how healthy you are. If you are tiny now, then 5 pounds is a whole lot to lose. However, if you're bigger, than you should be able to lose 5 pounds. Try getting some cardio exercise for a half hour each day. Walk your dog, jump rope with some friends, go to a gym, or do a workout DVD. And, cut out most fast food and junk. Try to eat lean proteins, like chicken and fish, and eat lots of fruits and veggies. But, above all, make sure not to starve yourself. If you eat too little, then your body will go into starvation mode and stop burning calories.

Hey girl, not at all! That just means you have a different bone structure. That said, you can bring up your running endurance. Believe it or not, I was just like you before I started jogging at home. Now I can run three to four miles without breaking a sweat because I worked up to it and jogged at home/around my neighborhood.

MOD MOD MOD Dear mod, im 145 pounds and im 13, i know im overweight and i dont know how often i should excersise, my parents have a lipticol and i was thinking of working out on it 20 minutes everyday. Is that good. anything else u suggest. I own a jumprope too.

 

Hey babe, An eliptical is a great way to burn fat - it works out a lot of different parts of your body. Try doing thirty minutes five days a week. It's important for your body to get rest occasionally. You should also try to do a little bit of weight training, like using free weights or doing push ups. That will help boost your metabolism and help you burn fat faster.

MOD MOD MOD <3 I've wanted to get in shape FOREVER! But whenever I start, I never stay motivated and I just kind of give in. I snack when I'm bored, and I try to stop but sometimes I just can't! What are some tips to staying motivated and ways to reduce my snacking habits? Also, what are some workouts that are fun to do?

 

 

Hey chickadee! Snacking is fine, it just depends what you snack on! Snack on fruits, veggies and nuts to keep you going throughout the day. And whenever you get the urge to eat junk, go for a walk around the block, play with your dog, call a friend on the phone...anything to keep you occupied and out of the fridge. And workouts don't have to be boring gym machines. Jump rope outside. Dance like a crazy person to your favorite music in your room. Pop in a dance or yoga DVD and learn some new moves. Go play tennis or shoot some hoops with your friends (or, your crush;)). As for staying motivated, check out our G-Life section, at the top of the page, for lots of ideas on everything from exercises to recipes to motivational tips Smile

PLEASE HELP!
I NO Im over weight and i really want to change that and get healthy! Smile the work outs in the mags of gl are good but i feel like they dont help that much for me. i share a room with my sis and its not that big andi have barley any room to work out so its harder. i cant go out in my living room cuz my fam is always there and i live in an aprtment. its hard for me to stay motivated to lose the weight but i think its bc i dont really have a set plan. i wanna lose weight and fat on my stomache and thighs!i need to really bad. any work outs that will help with those????? i need more then one workout for each cuz i get bored with them adn need new ones! so any wok out for those will be great Smile sorry this is so longFrown but please help!!!!?

 

Hey girl,


First of all, don't feel bad about yourself, even if you think you need to lose weight. Do it in a healthy way, and also make sure that you are eating healthy foods. Do you have a TV in your room? If so, maybe you could try a workout tape or something like that. If not, something like crunches is always good. For your stomach I would do crunches and also try the "plank" exercise — trying to hold yourself with the lower half of your arms and your toes on the ground, without any of the rest of your body touching the floor.

 

For your thighs, I would try lying on the ground and lifting one leg back and forth, then switching to the other leg. Something like lifting your knees up high, one after the other, might also help for this. Cardio is also always good - like walking, jogging or biking. I'm not sure where you live but if you are able/old enough and it's safe, maybe you could go running or walking outside.

 

It's also a good idea to track when you work out and what you do. You can do it here on the GL website in the "Healthy You" section, or you can write it down on a calendar or notebook. As you see what you've accomplished and work towards goals, that should start to motivate you more! MOD MOD MOD ok so today i have soccer tryoutss i played last season to i decided i wanted to go kick the ball around before i leave so i did and i got really tired easily i was breathing really hard i don't know what to do i don't want my team to think im a loser

 

Hey, I don't think your team will be judging you on getting a little bit tired. If you haven't been practicing much this summer, it might take you a little while to get back in the swing of things. Go to the tryout, do your best, and maybe do some exercises, kick the ball around or jog on your own to prepare for the new season. Being worried about people thinking you're a loser (when I'm sure they're mostly worried about whether or not they're going to make the team) is no reason to stay home!

If you work out, practice and run to prepare for volleyball, you will probably start to get more in shape. Then, if you make the team, the daily practices should help you get into shape also, as long as you're eating healthy, too!

ok so today after school, my friend ran 8 times around the track (2 miles) i ran 2 with her and i walked 1 after her. i want to know how i can get in shape (i'm almost 160 lbs. and a freshman) and i hate running especially on the track (because the jv football players practice right around there) and so i was wondering if there was anything i could do for a workout that isn't like...public and doesn't inclue that much running.

Hey girlie, the best way to get in shape is to run, but you can do it closer to home so that you're not embarassed. The more you do it the easier it will get and when it's easier you won't hate it so much.

I want to get more into shape for all my sports and for homecoming which is October 23rd. How many lunges and sets should I do a day to see a difference by then in my thighs??? I really have no idea where to start out. However, I'm not new to this. Thanks!!!

 

Hey girlie, try starting out with lunges across your bedroom or down a hallway in your house. When you get more comfortable with it you can add more laps across the room or down the hall.

ok, i am starting volleyball like monday or something and during tryouts i lost a pound in 4 days of HARD WORK!!!!!!! i am 102.5-103.5 and my goal is 99 lbs. i do have some belly flab and thats all i wanna get rid of to get a lean look. im gonna start karate soon too! and this winter i wanna try dancing, should i take a yoga class too cuz winter is when i eat a lot.. ya know just to help me stay fit and toned.... so any other ways to drop 4 more stubborn lbs soon other than sports... i rad all the articles btw.... thanks!

Another question, I want to exercise, on my thighs and stomach. But I think my mom thinks I'm too worried about it. I look at magazines to find new exercises to do, (which I do) but the truth is my mom is overweight and I don't want to end up like that. What should I tell her?




Just let her know that you're trying to stay healthy! Don't obsess over the size of your thighs, just do exercises that will keep you in shape and healthy!

Ok, I felt sick this morning so I stayed home from school. I seriously O.D.'d on junk food. I had some ramen noodles, a bowl of popcorn, and 7 mini candies!!! I have type one diabetes so its hard for me to tell if i'm full or not. I can't really tell unless I ate a LOT! I need help! What should I do? And when I'm hungry, what can I snack on that wont cost too much for my parents?

*MOD* im a total nail biter, and i cant stop! im almost 13 and ppl at skool at making fun of me (jerks) and i've tried bittter tasting nail polish and other things of that nature but nothing works! do you have any other ideas??? thank you!

 

Hey girl, I know it can be tough to break a habit.  One thing that helps me is finding something else to do, even if it's just playing with my bracelets.  Sometimes, habits can be a sign of being nervous or stressed, so you might think about if there's some kind of sitch that makes you more likely to chew.  If you can work out what's making you stressed, you'll be less likely to bite.  Good luck!

Hey girl, Instead of focusing on specific numbers, it's best to just take good care of your bod.  Eat a variety of nutritious foods and do some physical activity you enjoy, and you should be at a size that's good for you.

Hey it would be great if you could help me with my guy problem! So I'm a freshman in high school and I like a senior. Yes, I did just say senior. All my friends think I have absolutly no chance with him! He really doesn't look like one and when I started liking him I had no idea he was a senior. Also, he isn't the type of guy that would look at me and be like there is no way I would go out with a freshman. I REALLY like this guy. He has eveything I could ever want in a guy, the problem is next year he is going to college. Which means I have to make my move as soon as possible. I'm sure that if we like each other enough we could keep the relationship going even while he's in college. Every time I try to talk to him I can't find the words to say anything, I can't think of ANYTHING to say! I just stare at him stupidly. Frown I really want to be able to talk to him do you have any tips? He is doing this bible study Wednesday morning and it would be great if I could talk to him normaly?

Last summer I realized I was too big so I got fit and lost some weight. My arms and legs are normal but my tummy is still kinda big. I've tried eating right and exercising, But all that happens is my arms, face, or legs get smaller.Is there any way to get a smaller tummy, but keep most of the other stuff normal? Or partly normal?

 

Hey girlie, unfortunately there's no way to specifically target your tummy fat. Just keep eating well and exercising regularly and eventually you'll start to see a difference.

I'm fat and i know it. i have a big tummy and big legs. im only 13 and weigh like 134 lbs. I hate that im like this and i hate how i look. i try to work out but i dont live near a workout center. and i try to eat healthy but there isnt enought healthy food in my house because its more expensive and my dad likes all the junk food. I know i cant change that. please can you give me a regular weight for my age and how to get there without just eating healthy?

 

Hey girlie, each body is different and there is no regular weight for your age because it's also based on health and muscle mass. Go for a walk in your neighborhood everyday after school and ask your mom if you can help pick out meals. Look online for healthy recipes and make them with her. Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive.

This is really helpful! Believe it or not if you like dancing or play an instrument join your schools marching band and Color Guard. It's very strenuous and a great workout. I've been doing it for about 7 weeks and I've already seen awesome results especially in my legs and core(:

mod mod mod mod ok two things...i have really bad blackheads all over my nose. they wont go away. i've tried everything! what should i do??? also, how do i ask my mom to let me buy makeup. i wear some of hers and im 99% sure she knows but things get reallll weird when i try and talk to her. i dont know but it just does. thanks for your help! ~Shelby~

 

 

Hey chica! I swear by Oxy Clinical Strength Acne Face Wash....it's great at clearing your face up. I would try talking to your mom again, and tell her how self-conscious you are about your blackheads. When you bring up makeup, assure her that you only want foundation to cover up your blackheads.... you're not looking to totally make yourself over.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have gained like 3 pounds(maybe more) from the time school started! It has only been 2 weeks!!! I have PE every day and volleyball practice. I haven't been eating as healthy but still 3 pounds!!!! HELP!!!!!!

 

 

Hey chica! I wouldn't worry too much about it. Your weight fluctuates on a daily basis, based on things like how much water you drink, how much salt you take in, etc. Also, what time of day you weight yourself. If you're really active, then it's possible that you could be gaining muscle too. I'd start weighing yourself at the same time every day, in the same clothing, so that you have a consistant pattern. And, 3 pound isn't anything to worry about. Smile

hey! clarifying shampoo is good if your hair is very oily. Revitalizing shampoo is for damaged heir, like if you straighten it every day. Good luck!

I try to wash my face every morning and night, but is it better to wash your face with your hands or with a washcloth/towel? Like, I know your hands can be oily, but also, washcloths add a lot of friction. Which do you think would have better results/ do you recommend? Thanks!

hey! I wash my face with my hands, but I see your point. I think a washcloth might be good because it could exfoliate your skin. Just make sure to wash it! Good luck!

~MOD~ I ate 5 and a half pieces of pizza, a HUGE piece of french toast, 2 cans of soda, some milk, and some fruit salad, and 2 pieces of sausage. That was just last night and this morning! I weighed myself 10 minutes ago, and i am less than i was last sunday by 4 pounds, and i am not getting this! and i havent been doing ANY excercise! what is the deal?




hey! when you're growing your weight just fluctuates, it's normal. Also you might just have a fast metabolism. congrats!

Is this enough of a workout per week?
Walk home 30 minutes per day.
Walking paper route 10 minutes per day.
Hip hop dance twice a week 1 hr. each.
Gym class every other day 1 hr 20 minutes each.
And I'll do crunches and Push ups each night and morning.
I'm normal weight, I just wanna maintain it and I wanna get back into shape cuz summers made me outta shape.
So is that ok?

Hey! You don't need to do all that just to maintain your weight. You should workout 20-30 min every day to do that. But if you want to get back in shape too this sounds like a great plan. good luck!

2. Well you know how they say your not supposed to eat after like 8 o'clock? Well i have soccer pratice 3 days a week and we don't get done til atleast 7:45 and sometimes as late as 8:45 I really hate that because i hate going to bed on a full stomach but i'm starving when i get home. And i can't eat dinner before practice because it's way too early What are some easy, light healthy dinners i could make after practice? Thanks

I LOVE to swim in my saltwater pool, but the problem is, everytime i get out, my face gets really dry,tight, and when i wash it my face stings a little. I don't like to work out, so i do it in the pool with a friend. I try to work out in the pool at lest three times a week for two hours, but im having problems with my face! Also, im beginning to break out in pimples now because of it! Help please!




I suggest you use a face wash to help with the acne. Just make sure your face doesnt get dried out cuz of the salt from the water. Use a moisturizer. Good luck! xoxo kerra
