I always look bad in pictures! I am the opposite of
photogenic. In every picture I'm in, I look possessed or weird. Can you give me
any tips for taking better pics?
Girl, I totally get your dilemma! I, too, have a stash of
cringe-worthy photos that make me look like a Martian. The good news is that
once you know a few secrets, you’ll be fab on film in no time!
Step One: Look Your Best
And by “best,” I mean look like you. It might be fun to pile
on the glitz and glam for a night out with the girls, but for everyday snaps,
you need to shine through. Keep the makeup light. A hint of eyeliner or mascara
will make your eyes pop without your lids looking heavy and a fairly neutral
lip stain or gloss will plump your pout. A swipe of powder across your cheeks,
nose, and forehead will keep your skin looking smooth and even.
Step Two: Ditch the Pose
The rabid, wide-eyed look comes when we’re told to say
cheese 30 seconds before the photog actually takes the pic. Ouch! Who can hold their
best grin under such torturous conditions? No one, that’s who!
Instead of smiling on command, work on your own schedule.
Settle into the pose, pull your shoulders back, hold your chin up, and flash
those pearly whites at the very last second.
Super snapshot secret? When the photog starts his countdown,
stare down at your feet. At two, toss your head back and lock eyes with the
lens. On three, smile, beautiful!
Step Three: Have Fun!
The best pics are taken when you look up from laughing with
your friends and suddenly there’s a flash and a photo. Keep the atmosphere
light and giggly, whether you’re waiting to have your school picture taken or
just fooling around with your buds. You’ll transform from a snapshot psycho into
a picture princess, I guarantee it!
