My new school is seriously tough!

Help! I'm going in an advanced school this year, and I don't know what to expect. I don't know anyone there and I wanna do well! The work is gonna be even more challenging. So how can I do well, make friends, and have an awesome year? Please help!

First of all, take a deep breath. Starting any new school is super-scary! And you’re probably sad to leave behind a place where you were getting awesome grades and knew everyone in your class. But once you get used to your new classes, new teachers and new kids, everything will start to feel just as comfortable as your old school.

Don’t forget--if you’re going to an advanced school, that means you’re super-smart and belong there! So give yourself some cred, girl, and remember that you are just as smart as everyone else at your new school. It’s easy to psych yourself out, but everyone else is probably doing the same thing.

Think about the subjects that you enjoy and excel at, and get excited about the aspects of school that make you feel like the amazing, confident girl you are! The best way to do well at your new school is to be passionate about what you’re doing, and have fun with it! You’ll be acing those tests before you know it.

OK. 2 all u complaing PLZ PLZPLZ listen 2 this! last year i was in sixth grade! my first year in middle school. and i was in ONE advanced class: the only advanced class that my school offers and its math. we have teams in sixth grade, so i had one teacher for 2 subjects and another teacher for the other 2 main subjects. just cuz the whole team was in advanced math, we had sooo much more expected of us! i had a minimum of about 6 hours of homework a night! and my math teacher taught us the material for a quiz the DAY BEFORE THE QUIZ! and then she compared the 2 classes by putting the grades up on the board! and she actaully told my class, "this class is so much worse than my other class! why cant u b more like them?" she said that! i had so much anxiety that year. the other advanced math team NEVER got homework. that was when i almost ALMOST tried to hurt myself. does that story change ur mind about coomplaining? it shocked u didnt it? oh and now i have less homework in seventh grade!!!

MOD MOD MOD! Please help! I'm seriously upset. I work my butt off in school, staying up super late to achieve those A's and the only thing I hear from my parents is complaining. They constantly nag about things like not being able to shovel the driveway because I had a project to do or staying in my room all day doing my homework. I'm in all these advanced classes and the work is really difficult, but so far, I've managed to achieve those A's. They think better of my younger sister who obviously has more time on her hands, since her school work isn't that intense yet. My dream is to get into an amazing college, succeed, and eventually get a great job. It starts now in high school where these grades matter to colleges. How do I cope with my unsupportive parents? I refuse to give up my dream, but it reduces me to tears trying to split myself in two separate directions.

Hey chickadee! Keep doing what you're doing, and don't let your parents get in the way of you succeeding. It's great that you have such high aspirations... everyone should! And, don't ever give them up. As for your rents, try to help them out when you can, even if it means taking 10 minutes away from your work. But, explain to them that you're going to have to make up that time by doing extra work. Sit them down and let them know how important it is to you to do well, and have a bright future.
