Confidence-Booster

I have really low self-esteem, so when an opportunity comes I take it. I mean: Boys. I feel like they like me, but then I “run away.” Also, I’m afraid to talk to other girls, thinking they won’t like me or will start drama, so it seems like I'm rude. I am not rude—I’m just shy. Is there anything I can do to not seem desperate and to talk to other girls?

Hey, girl. I used to be a really shy gal back in the day, so I know it can be tough to put yourself out there. Coming out of your shell can be hard. But don’t fret! With a little work, you can be more outgoing.

Oh boy, oh boy

What should you do when a guy seems interested? If you like him too, don’t run away! One thing that’s great about dating is that you can set the pace. You don’t have to rush into things if you don’t want to, so go ahead and take things slow. Go on a few casual dates and just have fun. You’re a great gal! What guy wouldn’t be lucky to have you by his side?

Finding gal pals

The best thing to do is just be yourself. I know, I know—cliché, right? But that’s because it’s true! If other girls like you, great, but if not, it’s their loss. If you’re nice and friendly, no one can fault you. When you overhear gals chatting about the latest episode of Glee or the crazy test coming up, join in the convo. A simple, “Are you guys talking about ___?” will get you an easy in.

Take baby steps

Stepping outside of your comfort zone can be way scary. Try starting small like I did. When someone sits down next to you or you lock eyes with a classmate, say hi. Ask ‘em how they’re doing or about their weekend and don’t hesitate to tell them about yours, too. It can be a bit nerve-wracking at first, but over time it gets easier and easier. I know you can do it!

Good luck, girl!
