Go for Sweetly Half Up
Psst: a half-up mane works on basically every girl and looks “fun and youthful,” says stylist Angelo David. Start with dry tresses. Use a comb to create a deep part (the arch of your eyebrow is a good point of reference). Grab a 1-inch section of hair and start twisting it along your hairline. Or, to re-create Lauren's look, try a braid instead. Ask your mom or BFF to hold the twisted section, while you repeat on the other side. Secure both parts together with a tiny elastic. Nix flyaways with some pomade.
 
Deck Out Your ’Do

I just got my hair cut similar to the Bob 'n' Bangs in the Aug/Sep magazine and <3 it to pieces!!(side bangs and slightly shorter) My only prob is I am getting bored with just wearing it down and want some new ways to style it. I have searched through GL.com but have found nothing that I can do with my hair except leave it down. My hair isn't stacked in the back. Just light layers. The longest part of my hair hits just above collarbone length. Any tips would help bunches an bunches!! P.S: I am a new subscriber and <3 GL!


 


Hey chica! You could always twist back your bangs to the side and pin with a bobby pin, a la Lauren Conrad. Side twists are always cute! Or, you could have fun with a cute headband. H&M and Forever21 have lots Smile

@rosalia101 rubbing a fabric softener sheet on your hair will calm the frizz down! And you can also use a dime size amount of hand lotion in your locks and it will help you. (: the lotion won't make your hair look or feel greasy, but it gives it some shine! Hope it helped!

Are there any treatments to keep hair straight for a while? I know there are but I want to know so I could bring it up to my mom. Can't you get a relaxer for your hair? Or a Brazilian straightening system at a salon? But I've heard the Brazilian treatments can cause hair breakage and some of the ingredients in them could be cancer causing (formaldehyde) thanks! This will help a lot! And how long do they last? And would a short bob look good with my REALLY poofy hair that I can sometimes tame or a straight 'do? Gimme your opinion everyone!!! Hey girlie,

There are definitely chemical hair relaxers out there. Talk to your hairdresser about applying these - they usually do it for you and tell you all about how to care for it afterwards to avoid hair breakage, damage, brittleness, dryness, burning, etc. There is also the system you mentioned, which of course comes with its own effects. It's harsh on your hair and will definitely cause some damage because of the chemicals/heat/other things used. Anyway, the best thing to do is to talk to your hairdresser about ALL of the potential effects of these things. Weigh the pros and cons, especially based on how healthy your hair currently is. (If it isn't fried or damaged now, it'll bounce back better from any future damage.)




Personally though, I would stick to temporary straightening, following these tips that we know are safe! (Heads up, that contest is old.)

Hey girlie,

Here are some of the best ways to treat your hair well:

-  Hydrate! Drinking lots of water is good for our bods, especially our skin and hair.

-  Condition. Use a conditioner every time you take a shower. Let it sink it for a few minutes before rinsing it off!

-  Don't stress it too much. Using blow dryers, straighteners, curling irons, and krimpers all put stress on our hair (and the heat is so bad for it). Limit yourself to using these every other day or once a week to give your hair a break Smile

I have really messy but straight, somewhat long hair that's really dark brown with side-sweep bangs. It can get boring sometimes and besides curling it, do you have any tips or hairstyles I could try out? Also do you have any tips for my hair to get lighter, naturally? I don't want to spend too much money on a trip to the salon to get it dyed and special shampoos to maintain the hair color. I don't think it matters, but I also have dry hair.




You could do a kind of beach wave. Braid your hair over night and the next morning it will have a little crimp/wave to it. Then adjust it with mousse and hairspray. You can't really change your hair color without actually dying it, but you could always try the store bought dye so you don't spend too much money.

MODMODMOD! My hair is dark brown and wavy/frizzy when it dries by itself. I always straighten it for school and for hanging out, but its getting boring. I have to straighten it though, because of how wavy my hair is. My hair is about 5-6 inches below my shoulder, and my bangs are cut in a swept-like cut. I don't feel comfortable with them pulled out of my face either. Do you know other hairstyles I can use for this type of hair?

 

 

Hey chica! You could always straighten your bangs, then use a round brush to blow out the rest of your hair. Then, put it in hot rollers for a cute volumized do. Also, try some cute headbands. They always look fun with sideswept bangs Smile

I have an oval shaped face. And I want my hair to my collar bone but my mom won't let me. She makes me cut my hair short ( sometimes to my ear! ). And when I ask her if I can let my hair grow out she rufuses to let me do want I want with it! What do I do? Is she right?




Hey girlie,

Try to ask mom why she wants you to cut your hair so short. Is there a particular reason she wants it that way? Does she think it's more modest and appropriate to be shorter? Does she figure it'll save money on shampoo and styling products? Does she have a reason at all? Respect her decision and talk maturely with her about it - that way, you can try to get inside her head and understand where she's coming from. Afterwards, consider her reasons. If you still think letting your hair grow is the way you'd like to go with it, try to find a style you really like. Choose something simple and non-dramatic that you can show her - that way, she knows you're not thinking of going crazy with it - just that you'd like a change! It might be tough to change her mind but remember to stay calm and treat her with respect at all times. That means no yelling or stomping away in anger...that'll only hurt your cause Smile

I have very wavy hair and have been trying to curl it for days. I put tons of hairspray in it, and when every I use my curling iron (1 1/4 inch), my hair just comes out as a wave at the bottom. Don't get me wrong it looks pretty, but only for an hour. It becomes stick straight after that. Am I using the iron wrong? Is there a way to get that "roller look" just with a curling iron? HELP!




Hey babe,

It's most likely not your hair - it's probably the way you're using the iron! Try separating your hair into thinner sections and make sure you roll it all the way up to the scalp. (Obviously don't touch your scalp though - ouch!) Spray the section of your hair with hair spray first, then roll it and hold it for at least 30 seconds. When you let it down, try to do it gently so you don't destroy the curl. Afterwards, spray with hair spray again. It might not last long (THAT will be due to your hair's texture) but, with practice, you'll get better at creating a perfect curl Smile

Hey girlie, look for a super strength hair spray. You'll also get better curls if you use the thinnest curling iron you can find.

I have got a cute WAVE look.It's not a curl and it doesn't leave hair sticking strait down either.1.Wash hair on an everyday bacis.2.After showering,comb hair with a wide toothed comb.Brushing hair when it's wet can damage and split hair.3.Braid hair in 6 to 9 braids all around your head.4.DO NOT TOUCH BRAIDS!Sleep with the braids for the night.5.After waking up,get dressed like normal.5 minutes before leaving for school or wherever take out braids.6.You may need to move and fiddle with it to place it.Hair may be slightly wet.Other than that you have easy waves that are perfect for any occasion.

Hey girlie, make sure you're getting it cut regularly. All you need is a trim every few months to keep your hair healthy and it'll grow faster if the ends are healthy.

MOD MOD MOD!!! ok. i have medium blonde hair with slight waves, a straightener, no curler, and about 2 bobby pins. i have elastics and will be getting money at xmas so i might buy a curler. i am in desperate need of new ways for my hair because i always wear it down. i have done a fishtail braid once, but i cant french braid anything but my side bangs that wont do anything but sit there looking stupid. SO cute! Love love love the last one! Another super cute one is a new side pony tail a experimented with. Start with damp hair. Take about an inch of hair on either side of your face in the very front and braid back. Secure with an elastic once it is about 3/4 done. Then brush the remaining hair back to remove any parts, then pull your hair into a low side pony tail. Include the end of your braid in with the pony. Twirl your hair to create one big curl. Spritz with a little tiny bit of hair spray. And VWA LA super cute and ready for school, the weekend, or even a special event! =D

Mod***** My hair is about shoulder length and all I cando with It is straighten it without being asked why I dressed up ( for school). I want long curly hair, but my hair won't grow once it gets a little past my shoulders. But when I straighten it it won't stay straight and it gets stringy looking..... Hey girly! I always dry mine with a big round brush for some volume, before straightening. Then, make sure that you're straightening your hair in quick strokes, and that you don't have it on the highest heat. You can always use a volumizing shampoo or conditioner and a smoothing cream before straightening as well.

MOD-- Hi, So I have curly hair and I'd like to add a neon streak (like a bright blue or something), but I don't want something permanent or expensive. I tried some cheap extensions but they're made for straight hair. I haven't been able to find dye that will was out and will be bright on brown hair without bleaching. The closest I've found was Streakers, but it doesn't show up neon on dark hair. Any ideas?



Hey girl, It is tough to add bright streaks to dark hair.  From what I know though, bleaching before putting in streaks is pretty much the best way to get them to show.  I would recommend talking to your hair stylist next time you go in for a trim, or stopping in to a beauty supply store, to see if they have any other possible ideas.  xoxo

You could take a shower at night and then braid your wet hair into multiple braids - maybe six or seven. When you wake up, you should have wavy hair!

I LOVE THE BRAIDS!!! If you are ever struggling with your hair dont just throw it up in a bun, try a french braid or anyother braids. Its way better for your hair (it doesnt pull like a bun does and it ca be way pettier).

MOD MOD MOD! My hair is a little less than sholder length, and I can't put in a ponytail or anything, and ever sence my mom burned me with a flat iron, I wont go near any hot hair styling things. Plus its too short to put curlers in and I WILL NOT grow it out cuz short hair is sooo much easyer to manage. I dont know what to do with it. Im getting bored with it just... being there.

Hey I've never posted before and I desperately need an answer!
My hair is soooo weak and I have soooo many flyaways and broken hairs! I'm soooo gentle with it but I can't get rid of them! HELP!!!!!!




Hey chickie,

First off, go to the hairdresser when ya can and get a trim. Hair is more likely to break or split when it hasn't been cut in a while - a trim will rejuvenate it and perk it up a little! Make sure you're using conditioner when you shower to make the hair softer and less frizzy, and try brushing your hair only when it's wet. All of these things can help tame those flyaways Smile

Mod moddd sooo every time i let my hair naturally dry, it gets REeeeealllyy puffy and frizzy and all that stuff. it isnt thick or anything but it expands aloott. How can i tame it without using a hair dryer or flat iron????

 

 

Hey chica! You could use a smoothing balm while it's still wet, then put it back in a big braid. Leave it in until your hair is dry, and then take it out. Voila! Smile

Well, for me, I really had  no interest in wearing make-up until I was about 11 or 12. My parents were okay with it for the most part then because I never went too crazy with it and it was always pretty light. Every  once in a while my mom would tell me to wash off a little because it looked like too much (she still does that sometimes actually!), but  otherwise  it was fine. I was allowed to because I was smart about it and never went over  board! I suggest you do the same! good luck, girlie xoxo

Hey girly girl! Your hair sounds cute (I want it! haha). You could always braid back your bangs... or part it on the side and braid back the sides, so that it's half up. Or, you could jazz it up with a fun headband or some cute barettes. Also, you could get a cute new haircut... maybe some layers, or some long side-swept bangs Smile

Hey chickadee! I'm so happy that you like your bod! You should. Guys at your age can be totally annoying and perverted, unfortunately. So, that means that you just have to be extra picky. A good guy will like you for you, and not your chest. And trust me, there are plenty of good guys out there. Sometimes though, they're quieter, so you don't notice them right away.

hey girlies! i just wanted 2 tell u guys that i found a way 2 make ur hair curly, without a curling iron! what u do is u take a shower at night and wash ur hair (or u can just get ur hair wet) and lightly damp it with a towel, then use a styling mousse, or u could prob use gel and then u use that and scrunch ur hair and then u need 2 put it up in buns. what i think is that u need to do 2 buns if its not that thick, then do about 4 buns if ur hair is in the middle (thats me!) and do 5-7 buns if ur hair is thick!

Hey girl, I'd try use straightening styling products (shampoos, conditioners) when you wash your hair and then spraying your hair after you finish straightening it to keep it in.

Hey girl, perms are crazy (trust me, I attempted to get one once and it didn't turn out) and very hard on your hair. I'd suggest using curlers instead when you want some wave and just getting a dramatic new haircut. Get some layers. Go for bangs! You can make yourself over without the harsh chemicals.

so i really want my hair to look pretty tomorrow for school. I was thinking about really big curls that almost looked like waves. Is there any way i can do it without using a curling iron cos they never work on my hair?




Hey girl, you can try sleeping in soft rollers or braiding your hair and sleeping in braids.

You know how to get curls easier and faster than the way they just said up there?
Get your hair wet or damp then take anti-frizz serum and scrunch your hair with it and let it air dry. But this only works with curly, wavy, or textured hair.

The way they explain takes forever and it doesn't look really curly... trust me i have tried it.

My homecoming dance is tomorrow, and I don't know what to do with my hair. I have straight hair a few inches past my shoulder, and side-ish bangs. Any suggestions? Thanks!

 

First you'll have to decide whether you want to keep your hair straight for the dance or curl it. A lot of people get up-dos for dances, but having your hair down also looks great and it's more relaxed for dancing. (Plus, you don't have to deal with 50 bobby pins later that night!) It's also flowy and relaxed-looking. You could just wear your hair down and maybe curl in the ends with a round brush to give it a little extra edge. Or, you could use a curling iron to create ringlets throughout your hair. Maybe you could look for a cute barrette that matches your dress and do a half-updo by pulling some hair from each side to the back of your head.

MOD MOD MOD MOD is there a difference between side bangs and regular bangs. If so can u please tell me, because i want side bangs but my mom keeps telling me that i just have to get bangs and put them to the side.If there really are side bangs not regular can u tell me how my hair cutter person (or what ever there called) can cut my hair how there suppose to cut them so i can tell her. but i really dont know what they are so please help. Hey missy, yeah there's a difference between side and regular bangs. Side or sideswept bangs, are long bangs that extend to the side of your face. They're usually long enough to put behind your ears. Regular bangs just go straight across your forehead. Just type in sideswept bangs into google and see which style you like. Smile

MOD MOD MOD ok so i need help with my hair! I have a half in above the shoulders,layerd brown hair. I have no idea how or what style to use. I dont really know alot but im pretty sure u do. I really only have 15 minutes before i have to leave for school. I usualy straighten it and just put a headband in, or i put curlers in the night before and its curly. But i wanted a new hairstyle, please tell me u can come up with something! anyways thx!! Smile

 

Hey missy, you can always crimp your hair. All you have to do is part your hair into different sections, almost as if you were going to braid your hair into conrows. With each section of hair, wet it and then braid it. Don't take your braids out until the next day, and you're hair should be wavy. Try it and let me know how it turns out! Smile

Hey missy, you could put a braid in the front of your hair, and put the rest in a ponytail. A ponytail would also look cute with a nice headband. A messy bun with a hair clip would also look good. Smile

Hey chica, everyone's hair is differnet, so the trick is finding what works best for your strands. Check out Aussie's, Head &Shoulder's and Pantene's shampoos and conditioners too. Try blow drying your hair upside down too. Smile

MOD I never have time to workout. School is time-consuming, I'm working a lot for a show opening tonigt, and my sibs are always wanting time. What can I do to find time? The only time right now is running at 5 with my mom (which I have fun doing). But my sched. is so messed up, 5 a.m. just doesn't work! Smile Do you have any advice? Thanks!

 

Hey girl you could try running with your mom at 5am a couple days of week or just when you feel up to it but if you cant exercise make sure you are at least eating healthy! it sounds like youre really busy so its okay its not like your being a couch potato!

What a bummer! I'd try using some frizz control or straightening gel as soon as you get out of the shower, before blow drying your hair! Also- know that blowdrying your hair and brushing through it as you go will give you a jump start on the straightening part!  Pantene, Aussie, and Fructese all have great products for straight hair!  Try using these first!  I also sometime spray hairspray on my hands and then run them through my hair after it's been straightened, just so it'll stick that way =) Hope i could help!
