I really like this new kid at school, and we've become close friends. We talk all the time, even sit next to each other at lunch and in French class. We exchange notes, and we also exchanged numbers and sometimes text each other.
I think it'd be fun to go to the Winter Fest dance together in February. I need a way to ask him to go with me, or hint for him to ask me.

Step 1: Get him thinking
Once the date gets a little closer, try broaching the topic. You can ask him if he’s seen posters or heard about the Winter Fest dance. Since he’s new, he may have no clue, so feel free to fill him in on how great it is. Mention how much you’re looking forward to it and ask if he’s thinking about taking anyone. This should get his wheels turning about who he should bring.
Step 2: Snag your Prince Charming
As much as we gals love when guys ask us on dates, we forget we can ask, too! Don’t be afraid to ask him yourself. Wanna be casual? If ya know he’s going solo, suggest you two go together as friends. He’ll appreciate your straight forward, no drama attitude. Plus, you’ll both instantly have fun dates who are easy to hang out with. Voila!
You can also try to be a little flirty about it. Mention you want to go with someone. When he asks about your mystery man, gradually fill him in with little clues until he figures out it’s him. Or, since you pass notes all the time, write an old school “Will you go to the dance with me?” note. When he opens it and looks over, flash him a sweet smile. (**Warning: don’t let your invite get intercepted!)
Bottom line: there are lots of diff ways you can go about it. It’s all about finding one that feels the most natural for you and running with it.
