Holiday stress-busters

Check these out, too...

The holidays are supposed to be cheery but with all the to do’s, they can end up being totally stressful. From figuring out how you’ll afford presents to how to avoid family overload, we’ve got ways you can survive all the hullabaloo. Take a big breath and keep reading our best stress-busters for the season.

Seasonal stress: How am I supposed to exercise on a regular basis in the middle of all the holiday craziness?
The solution: It may seem impossible, but you can do it. Exercising amidst the nuttiness can save your sanity. Set aside at least thirty minutes every day to be active. Feel bad taking time away from your family’s visit? Invite your cousin to go on a run with you or challenge your bro to an intense game of Wii Tennis. Or get up a teeny bit earlier in the a.m. to get your sweat on.

Seasonal stress: Cookies, cakes and brownies are everywhere. How do I keep from over eating when I’m surrounded by treats?
The solution: When sitting around the fire with the fam, sit as far away from the platter of sweets as possible. Grab one or two, put them on a napkin, and then walk away. It’s much harder to resist with them sitting right in front of you.

Seasonal stress: My family is in town and my little cousins are driving me nuts.
The solution: We all love our families but during the holidays, it can get a lil’ bit suffocating when they’re all there, all the time. Try getting away for a couple hours by going to a movies or retreating to your room for some quiet reading. Sometimes just a little break is all you need to chill out. Or get the group involved in a big game—a little healthy competition can be totally fun.

Seasonal stress: With all this gift shopping, I’m totally broke. How can I afford gifts for my friends?
The solution: You don’t need to spend a ton of your hard-earned dough on prezzies. BFFs love getting cute little reminders of your friendship, so photo albums and collages are a big hit. You can buy a big poster for less than a buck and then go over the top decorating it with pics of you two, inside jokes, and little memories! It’s sweet, thoughtful and, yay!, totally affordable.

what are some places that teen girls can shop for cheap? my friends are insiting we have a gift swap and were broke Smile

Hey girlie! Honestly, try the dollar store! I always find the greatest things there for a dollar! If that doesn't work try, foever21's accessory section-it's very cheap! If this fails, make your friends a mixed CD! Everyone loves some fun tunes to listen to over the holidays! Hope this helps!

MOD- Back in February my friend threw a party. Her birthday was like a whole month before, and she had intended on throwing a party earlier, but it just kept being put off. In the end, the invitation said that her birthday was a month ago and she wanted to throw a party then, but stuff kept happening, so she thought she could do one now. Well, I thought I should get her a present, but my mom wanted to save money and thought it wouldn't be expected if it was a whole month after her birthday, so I went gift-less. I ended up being like the only one who didn't get her anything and she kept asking me, "Is this one from you?" and I just kept saying no. At the end I told her I didn't know if it was a gift thing, so I didn't bring anything for her. She said it was okay, but I felt really bad about it. I'm a vegetarian and her parents had even bought me special veggie hot dogs. We're not very close anymore, and I wonder if it was because of that. Was it horrible that I went gift-less?

Hey girlie. I know at your age it seems that bringing gifts to birthday parties is the right thing to do. Even as you grow older, people will continue to do so. But what I've learned is that what is truly important is not that people bring you presents, but rather, that they show up and celebrate the day you were brought into this world. I mean does being a good friend mean buying a good gift? Look at it this way: your friends who did bring gifts did not buy the gifts themselves but rather had their parents give them money to buy something. We live in a world that is so focused on getting things that we forget what is actually important. If you feel badly about it, then write your old friend a note and tell her that you appreciate her in your life and that you hope that she knows how much you love her. Next time, if you cannot afford a present or your mom doesn't believe it to be necessary, try writing her a nice note or maybe bring her some balloons! It's not what you give, but rather than you recognize her birthday and desire to celebrate it with her!

hey girl! don't stress =( you should def try talking to your family about it! they may not know how you really feel until you actually say something and explain it to them.  even talking to your brother would help!
