Tricks for picking perfect presents

For the girls…

Your besties have always been there for you. Use the holiday to show how much they mean to you by whipping up something thoughtful and homemade.

Make a yearbook of your time together. With the end of 2010 approaching, there’s no better time than the holidays to look back. Assemble pictures from the big events you and your girls hit this year — dances, sleepovers, parties, etc. Put them together in a book and make sure to highlight each month.

Put together a playlist. What’s the soundtrack of your friendship? Choose 15 songs and make a CD. To take the gift to the next level, add a little track book, explaining the story behind each song you chose.

Craft something she’d love. Our site’s stocked with fun DIYs, so look around to spy the perfect gift. Our current faves are the Hogwarts scarf and cranberry lip gloss.

For the boy…

Boyfriend or crush, the holidays are your chance to end the year on a high note with the cutie in your life. Ya don’t have to spend a ton of loot. Instead, opt for an activity that’ll bring you two together.

Give him an invite. For crushes, the best gift you can give is the chance to get to know you better. Invite him to a holiday party you’re throwing or see if he’d like to hang out some time in a group.

Make him a card. A homemade card (with a couple of brownies) wishing your guy the best this holiday speaks volumes. Boyfriend or just a crush, this boy will totes love the effort you put in his card and the personalized message you’ll write inside.

Prepare a meal. Have a holiday dinner with your boyfriend. Prepare his fave dish and dessert. Then just have fun watching a movie together. Sometimes the best gift is spending time with the one you heart

P.S. If you’re exchanging gifts, be sure to listen to his interests. Is there a band he really likes? A show he’s into or a topic? Don’t just buy him a gift card; buy him something that shows how well you know him. For extra laughs, buy something little to add that reflects an inside joke you two have.

For the parents…

Mom and Dad put in a lot of effort into making your holiday just right. If you’re seriously low on cash, make something by hand an include an extra-sweet, sincere note telling them why you love them. Don’t forget to pitch in extra around the house during the holidays or offer to babysit your younger sibs while they shop.

Research and find the perfect book. Is there a particular author your mom or dad like? A certain genre? For example, if your dad likes historical novels, consult the experts around you. Ask your history teacher for their book picks.

Buy a cooking kit. The holidays are the perfect time to spend some extra time with Mom and Dad. Find a cooking kit with ingredients for a dish you all really love (cupcakes, for example) and then make a point to bake together. They’ll appreciate the time with you and the good food.

For the grandparents…

While just being with you is the greatest gift for a grandparent, a personalized present can be the cherry on top of their holiday.

Make them something that showcases your talent. Your grandparents prob want to get to know you better and show off how fab you are to their friends. Are you an awesome artist or writer? Paint a portrait of them or write a short story. Are you a great musician? Write a song for them and make a recording of it. They’re so proud of you and gifts like that are the kind they’ll keep for the rest of their lives.

For everyone…

Remember, when it comes to finding the perfect gift, you don’t need to spend oodles of money. The trick is to put thought into everything you give. Personal touches not only make your gifts stand out, but they touch hearts. And there’s no better time of the year to warm some!
