Skin-perfecting secrets from a makeup artist

Confused about concealer? Wanna make under-circles disappear? We hear ya. That’s why we chatted with one of our fave makeup artists, Gozi Olandu, and snagged her secrets for utterly flawless skin.

PLUS we’re giving one girl the ticket to flawless skin with a Clean Scene prize pack from Murad. Read on for the deets!

Secret #1: You can so use foundation as concealer.
You should never go overboard with the makeup. To get a look that’s natural (but still covers up your zits), apply a tinted moisturizer. Then, Gozi says to brush on a bit of foundation over any pimples. Buh-bye, blemishes.

Secret #2: Cover pimples with precision.

“For zits, you want to dot concealer on the spots,” she tells us. Gozi suggests using a teeny, tiny brush so the spot is totally covered but not gooped on. Remember: never, ever apply concealer to a zit with your fingers—that’s just germtastic. “I absolutely love Bobbi Brown’s concealer,” she swears.

Secret #3: Amazing foundation is actually affordable.
Sure, Gozi’s makeup kit is stacked with fancy beauty finds but she swears you can get gorge results from drugstore brands. Her fave so-not-pricey foundation: Revlon Color Stay. “A little goes a long way!”

Secret #4: Don’t lighten up too much.
“A lot of people mess up their concealer when they try to go too light,” she tells us. If you’re trying to make dark circles under your eyes disappear, find a concealer that matches your skin tone. “You really want to neutralize the area. You should never go more than two shades lighter than your natural skin tone—ever.”

Secret #5: Seal the deal with powder.
Whenever you apply concealer, you m-u-s-t brush on some power (either translucent or skin-tone). “Otherwise they move on the skin,” Gozi says. Runaway makeup is never a good look.

Win big! Clean Scene by Murad is hookin’ one girl up with a crystal-clear complexion for the holidays.

One GL reader will land their Down for Defense SPF 15 Moisturizer, Gaga for Glow Gentle Facial Scrub and Begging for Balance Oil-Free Moisturizer. Their products are yummy-smelling and gentle on your skin.

Wanna nab the set now? CLICK HERE to enter now! Buy it online at mycleanscene.com for $33. Contest ends Dec. 21.

MOD!! How do you apply liquid foundation with your fingers and also a makeup sponge ? When I do it with my fingers, and leaving for school I check how it looks (in differnt light, b/c the light in my parents car is obv diff) it looks blotchy. So I dont think im doing it right. How do you apply it with your hands? How do you do it with a makeup sponge thingy as well ?

Hey girl!  I sometimes have trouble applying my foundation easily too, but I recently learned an easier way to do it.  First, you get a make-up sponge damp (not too wet).  Dab your sponge in a bit of foundation, then apply.  When your done, you use your (dry!) hand to lightly rub your face all over.  It will help even it out for ya! xoxo

Mod! This is kind of gross but I break out on my back and my chest. The are painfull red pimples that don't come to a head I've gone to a dematoligest several times but what they give me never helps. Do you what I could use on it?!

Hey girlie! Have you ever tried ProActiv? It's a great solution that celebrities such as P.Diddy and Justin Bieber uses and endorses. They have both face solution and a body wash that work great! I've been using it for years and have never had a problem with body acne since! You can find it by just writing "Proactiv" in Google and clicking on the first link.

MOD! MOD! MOD!
Anyways me and my friend are playing with makeup, so i wanted to make sure it was safe to share eyeshadow, concealer, and macara, is it?? And also is it okay to share makeup brushes too????
~Thnx~

Hey girlie! It probably isn't the best idea to share your makeup with friends since brushes and applicators hold a lot of bacteria upon use. If you insist on sharing makeup though, try to take the precautionary steps such as using a brush cleaner after every use (you can find cheap makeup brush cleaners at Sephora), and washing your face after playing with the makeup.

mod mod mod! Hey, I get little zits on my forehead and in between my eyebrows a lot. I also get tiny blackheads on my nose that won't go away. I wash my face in the morning and at night. The washing helps everywhere else except my forehead and eyebrow area. How can I get clear skin as soon as possible without spending a lot of money(like maybe within a week)? Thanks!

Hey girly!  I would try an acne fighting face wash, like Oxy Clinical Strength face wash. And, you can always invest in a spot treatment to zap zits and pimples that are still forming. My favorite cheap find is Terminator10. It comes in an orange tub and can be found in the acne section.

MOD MOD MOD!!
Hi! Well I usually break out on my forehead or my nose/cheek area. I clean my face daily but they don't like to go away. I don't like covering them up either! Also I get this one zit right on the corner of my nose. If i get rid of it, it comes back a month later. What can I do about my face and the zit??
Thanks! Smile

hey talk to your doctor about recommending a dermatologist for you, that's the best way to form a plan of attack on your acne
