4 speedy holiday updos

 
 
Updos are the perf solution: they keep your hair out of your face and look super pretty. Here are our fave speedy styles for any special occasion.  
 
The style: Messy bun
Perf for: Curly or wavy hair
Sometimes a messy look can still be totally chic.  Gather hair into a pony at nape of your neck, on the side.  Let a couple loose strands fall into your face.  Twist into a bun, and set with bobby pins. Hit it with hairspray to finish it off.
 
The style: The Grecian
Perf for: Curly hair
For curly girls, the goddess look is a perfect hairstyle to tame ringlets.  Work in a curl-defining cream, then pull a one-inch section on either side of your face (above ears) to meet in the back of your head. Secure with a pretty barrette or bobby pins. Use a soft-hold hairspray that will keep curls in place, but still leaves them loose and shiny.  Straight-haired chicas can try this style with two braided sections.
 
The style: Looped Pony
Perf for: Straight or wavy hair
Pull all hair back into a ponytail at about the middle of your head. Secure with an elastic that matches your hair color. Create an opening right before the elastic band, loosening up your hair a bit. Loop the ponytail through the hole, which will create a twisted effect on either side. Pull hair to tighten for a super shiny style that keeps your strands out of the way.  
 
The style: The Frenchie
Perf for: Medium to long straight hair
Channel Audrey Hepburn by sporting an elegant French twist. Part straight hair on the side and slick it back with a small amount of gel.  Gather hair into a ponytail at the nape of your neck. Start twisting the ponytail upwards until it forms a tight right. Lift the “rope” up and tuck ends into the fold that’s created, and use bobby pins to hold it in place. Finish it off with a strong hold hairspray.

MOD! so I have naturally curly hair right? Frizzz stinks! I even moved up to a place with dry air but it still is puffy! Help! Thanks

 

Hey chica, try using some straigthening shampoo. The chemicals in the soap will help get rid of the kinks. Check out Target, Wal-Mart, and CVS for some good products. Hope this helps!!! Smile Smile

I have thick, little bit longer than shoulder length,black hair and whenever I try to style it, it falls apart instnantly. Im also not a very good styler. Please help!!




Hey Doll,

Hair can be really tricky to style, and if you're having a lot of trouble with it, you should try simpler styles that don't require tools. If you want it to be curly, an easier way to try it is to scrunch wet hair with curling gel (Garnier Fructis makes a good one) before bed and sleep with it in a tight bun. You should have some waves in the morning, and you can finger-comb them to keep the shape. Also, don't forget about hairspray! It can help hold any style in place, so use it before and after you style your hair. Braids are also something you can try: since you secure them with bobby pins or a hair tie, they shouldn't fall out instantly. Check out some cute braid ideas here, and if all else fails, throw in some cute hair accessories (think sparkly barrettes and pretty headbands) to give boring hair a fresh look.

i have bangs. my hair is naturally wavy so it always puffs out. i wanna put it up like in the pic above but it falls. should i use a hair clip or some hair product? also do you kow good hairstyles for bangs?

MOD MOD MOD!!!!! I swim and surf at the beach...A LOT! I put my hair back in a ponytail, and a tight one too, because I hate it when my hair gets in the way when I'm in the ocean. But, it never works! No matter how I put my hair up, it just falls out while I'm surfing or swimming. I need a good way to keep my hair up!

 

 

Hey girly! I'd try maybe using some hair gel or hair spray to keep your hair back. Or, try a cute swim cap! Retro ones look super chic!
