Use your mind to stop food cravings

 
Music to your ears, right? BBC News recently reported that a small study has found that subjects who simply imagined themselves eating the food they craved (in this case, M&M’s) wanted the food less than those who had not been thinking about it.

The researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have proven that repeatedly thinking about eating a food reduces the desire to actually eat that food, due to a process called “habituation.” This means that the more someone has of something, the less pleasure he/she gets from it. As the item becomes less rewarding, the person wants to consume less of it.

So, the next time you’re totally craving sweets, imagine yourself repeatedly eating a handful of your fave candy. Then, indulge slightly by picking just one piece to feel fully satisfied.
