Be the safest sitter

Check these out, too...

  • How to get as many babysitting jobs as possible
You’ve seen the horror movies where the babysitter gets terrorized while the house is empty and the kids are asleep, right?

You don’t want to get caught in a thriller just to get a few extra bucks, so follow these tips to stay safe when babysitting at a new house.

Don’t Post Wanted Ads

It’s dangerous to post ads in grocery stores or other public places that say you’re a babysitter looking for work because you’re giving your phone number out to complete strangers! Who knows who will respond to your ad. It’s safer to babysit for people you know through family or friends.

Babysit Close By

There’s nothing scarier than being in a stranger’s house in the middle of nowhere. Try to take jobs that are in your neighborhood. Not only is it easier for you to get to, but if anything happens there are people that you know close by to help.

Stay in Contact

The parents should leave a number for you to contact them in case of emergencies, but you should leave the number of the place you’re staying at with your family, too (if you don’t have a cell phone handy). That way, no matter what happens, you can stay in touch.

Make Sure the House is Secure

Lock the doors and close the windows and set the alarm (if there is one) if you’re babysitting at night in a new home. Not only do you have to keep yourself safe, but the kiddies too.

Know Where Things Are

As a babysitter, it’s your job to know where the fire extinguisher is, what the number for poison control is and whether or not the kids have allergies or sicknesses you have to take care of. So ask lots of questions before the parents head out for the evening.

Don’t Panic

It may seem like there are so many things to keep in mind when you’re looking after kids, and sometimes things get out of control, but even in serious cases it’s good to stay calm and keep the kids calm. Just take a breath and relax. Babysitting is great most of the time, so don’t sweat it.

MOD MOD MOD
I had a bad experience while babysitting. And now since then I haven't babysat in a long time and now I have no extra cash to spend!

Hey girl, ever think to try it again? You're older now and you're learned from that bad experience. Know every experience won't be like it. If you want, start again slowly: try babysitting for a short period of time instead of a long one.

MOD MOD MOD..I scored a babysitting job, but before I start the parents want to meet me. I am extremely nervous, I have the experience for it, but I am just not that great at interviews. I get intimidated easily and then my confidence goes down and I start mumbling complete nonsense...please help me!! How do I make a good impression on the parents and do well at the interview??

Hey girlie! Just imagine them in their underwear - haha, just kidding Smile Don't worry about your interview with them - just remember they want you just as much to be their babysitter as you want the job. Ask your parents if you can practice interviewing with them, for practice makes perfect, and your parents can also give you some helpful advice on how to conduct a successful interview.

I gotta disagree with setting the alarm. What if the parents ocme home and set it off, or if one of the kiddos opens the door and sets it off?
