I know my friend's secret--should I say anything?

My BFF just found out her dad isn’t her biological father. She didn’t tell me, but my mom did, asking if she’d been acting strange or anything. My mom said she and my dad have known about this for years. Should I say anything to my BFF, now or ever?

Dear I Know My Friend’s Secret,

The important thing is that you not whisper this secret to anyone else. Ideally, your BFF will broach the subject with you and you’ll be a sensitive listener.

Meantime, let it go. While honesty and candor are important, respecting this friend’s privacy may matter more. By the way, keep in mind that the man who raised her is her real dad.
