First period protection

Check these out, too...

  • Why do my fingers turn red when I'm cold?
  • Does it hurt when you first get your period?
  • I need longer pads! How do I tell Mom?
  • Why is my tummy so rumbly?
  • What stinks down south?
My mom keeps giving me “the talk” on getting my period. I think I’m ready, but I’m scared that it might happen at school, and I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of everyone. What can I do to stop that from happening?

Hello my friend! Well, first I must congratulate your mother for giving you “the talk” in general. Some mothers are afraid to talk to their girls about periods, so I’m glad to you’re in “the know.”

Relax!
Waiting for your period to show up is nerve-wracking. You’re a little bit anxious, a little bit nervous. You wonder when will it happen, so you can finally become a “woman,” but then you secretly feel a little bit elated every time you don’t feel that cramping feeling everyone talks about.

Now for the bad news…
Unfortunately, there’s no way to know when exactly Aunt Flo is gonna come to town. If you work on becoming more aware of your body, though, you’ll pick up on the warning signs pretty quickly.

Get to know what’s normal.
As you go about your day, think about how your body feels. Does your tummy hurt? Are you getting weird dischage? Are your breasts super-sensitive? Are you moody? When you know what’s normal for you, you’ll know instantly when your time has come. Note if you’re starting to feel cramps, and out-of-the-blue back aches. If you’re starting to get more pimples than usual, and your vaginal secretions are making your feel like you’re peeing on yourself, then your period just might be around the corner.

Be prepared.
Be sure to always have a pad, pantiliner and/or tampon at the ready just in case and make visits to the bathroom with your lady products when you feel a ‘leaking’ sensation. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck!

MOD MOD MOD I got my discharge today but there was some brown stuff mixed in with it not a lot but enough to make you notice. Could this be ma period. I'm not sure because i only wear a size 32A bra and have a medium amount of pubic hair and a lot of armpit hair. Please help!!
Thanks in advanceSmile Bye,
Basia

hey girlie,

yes, those are definitely signs of your period, so you may be getting it really soon! Just be prepared and shop for pantiliners and pads (or tampons) and you'll be fine!

MOD MOD MOD!
i have a BIG problem! i have almost ALL of the symtems listed, and im sure i will get my period by the summer. problem is, i go to an overnight camp the whole summer, and there is NO POSSIBLE WAY i will ask a counsler for help. i cant come with pads or tampons, becasue i dont feel comfertable asking my mom for them. WHAT DO I DO!!!!

Hey girl! Of course getting your period is a part of growing up, but so is confiding in your mom. It may be awkward, but she's been there and she understands. Just tell her the next time you guys are out that you want to buy them just to be safe. You're afraid of starting somewhere and not being prepared. She should def understand. If you think about it, it'll probably be more embarrassing to start and not be prepared than working with your mom to get you some ahead of time. You could always go the store with a friend instead of your mom and get them yourself, or you could talk to your school nurse. Any of these options are good, and I hope you can figure it all out Smile Good luck!
