Why do my nails break whenever I try to grow them?


Whenever I try to grow out my nails, they break off. What should I do?
 
Brittle nails are pretty darn common, girlie, but there are a few things you can do to toughen them up.

Moisturize!
When you’re constantly washing and drying your hands—during flu season, for example—your nails and hands have a tendency to get super dry. The fix is easy: Rub in a dollop of lotion whenever you hit the sink to counterbalance the scrubbing.

Blame your nail polish remover
Some nail polish removers, especially those with acetone, are incredibly damaging to your nails. To limit their harmful effect, minimize the amount of time the remover is actually on your hands. Take your polish off quickly and scrub your fingers thoroughly with soap and warm water. Then moisturize!

Snag a nail hardener
There are products designed specifically to strengthen your nails. Some, like Sally Hansen’s Diamond Strength Instant Nail Hardener, go on just like nail polish. Look for ones that don’t list formaldehyde or toluene as ingredients.

Somebody help?! I'm super confused! Once my crush touched my hair,said "Oh.I like tall girls girls wanna go out?" while I was blowing my nose!!!,then he hugged me when school was over when he and other boys were hugging goodbye to girls!!! What was going on!

MOD MOD MOD I loved the blue skirt in the article on skirts (in the ruler shaped part of it) in the feb/march issue but i looked on the tulle website and couldnt find it. do you know if they still have it?

 

Hey girl!  You're right, I did a quick look and couldn't find it either.  I'm not part of the fashion department, so I'm not sure!  I would check back in a few weeks - it's possible it won't be available till spring.  xoxo

Mod. So I asked my crush out last Tuesday. He never really gave me a straight answer. All he said was "Umm, Umm..... No later...." and started flirting with me again! I think this was because my friends were around. And since then, he literally Will. Not. Leave. Me. Alone. In the one class we have together, yearbook, (an elective at my school) were alowwed to go out in the hall and got to diff classrooms and take pics. I was taking pics with my two guy friends, and every once and a while he'll show up and scare me by pinching my sides, then ask what's up. And whenever I see him, he won't stop flirting with me, and he'll just stand there and play with my hair. What should I do? Thank you so much! You guys are awesome! xoxo Megan

 

Hmmm... I can see why you're totes confused!  Maybe you should talk to him about it.  It would prob be best if you do it sometime when it's just the two of you.  You can do it in a sweet, funny way, like "So, are you going to leave me hanging forever?"  It sounds like he still has interest, but it would be nice for you to know for sure! Smile

I fixed this problem as soon as I started spending my days in a barn.... I don't have long nails. At the barn the dirt got so caked under my nails it hurt (not that I ever had really long nails anyway) so I now keep them down to no or almost no white showing at all. When one of the girls break a nail and start complaining I tell them that's what they get for having looong nails. Meanwhile I can hit a volleyball and do barn chores all day and never get a broken or hurting nail! So my advice is: Keep them cut real short.
