How to boost your grades right now

Check these out, too...

  • Why you need to stop multitasking right now
  • 10 tips for acing your AP tests
  • 5 last-minute ways to lift your grades
  • 3 signs you need to give your study group the boot
  • How not to pull an all-nighter (and stay sane if you have to)
Wanna be a better student this year? Try out our top study tips.

Buy a planner or calendar and use it!
Try buying a planner or a desk calendar and write down all of your upcoming tests, quizzes and papers due so there are no surprises.

Break it up
Homework can be boring—no surprises there—but if you divide your study time into small blocks and give yourself short breaks in between, you’ll find you focus better while you’re working and you appreciate the reward for your hard work even more.

Limit your tube time
Use your fave shows as a treat, not as a tool for procrastination. Pick a couple of shows you really wanna watch and make a deal with yourself: If the homework gets done before they come on, you can chillax on the couch and enjoy your TV time. If not? Well, there’s always re-runs.

Ditch distractions
You’re time is valuable, so maximize it by doing your schoolwork in a quiet place. Have a study set up at home? Use it! Otherwise, hit your local library or another quiet spot where there’s no TV, radio or friends to distract you.

Talk to your teacher
Confused? Don’t wait ‘til the day before the big test to ask your teacher what the heck is going on. To retain the information, you need to get a handle on it ahead of time and actually learn it, not just cram. Bonus? Your teacher will actually have the time to help you succeed…and she’ll think you’re super responsible. Sweet!

Mod MOD Mod MOD Mod MOD Mod !! Hey, so my grades are totally sinking. I haven't been doing my homework for awhile now... so that adds up to tonsa missing/late work to finish and several of them are big projects (Ex. Building a model castle!!!). Im soo stressed out by my parents (strict) and organizing my room, I feel like Ill never get my work done!!! Im totally unorganized and I dont know what to do. If I dont get ALL As and Bs on my final report card, Im grounded from everything for the whole summer. I currently have Cs and Fs in 4 out of 6 of my classes. I really want to get all my work in, do better in class, and bump my grades up. School gets out on June 16th. What can I do? Please HELP!

Hey chica, I think you should go talk to your teachers at school, and maybe your parents.  'Fess up about where you're at with things and how you've been feeling - you're most likely to get the help you need that way.  Then, buckle down.  Devote time every day to studying and working through the things you need to do.  You've got the motivation, now it's time to get to work!

MOD MOD MOD
i only have one year left for me in school and then im gunna be in college
my dream job is becoming an interior designer and i really wanna study it but to become a successful one i have to be really good at geometry and i dont think im qualified enough and i cant always do my homework
how do you think i could improve my skills???

Hey girlie. You can do it! My advice would be during college to find an internship doing interior designing. By interning, you can learn what they do from day to day and what skills are most important. Then, work from there. As far as your math skills, there are plenty of ways to work on those. Professors are always willing to help you improve.

MOD MOD MOD!!! I'm a part of this science group/team, and we're going to the U of Guelph to compete against other teams, you have to study 8 diferent subjcts, and I'm way behind ( everyone else has done 4 and I'm just finishing #1), how can get caught up? Thanks in advance!!!!

Hey girly girl! I'd set aside some time every night after school to work on it. And then again before you go to bed. That way, you'll knock it out in no time, and it'll alleviate some stress Smile

ModModModMod I need extra help!!! My dad says that I can't have any Cs or more than two Bs or he will take me out of cheerleading! I really like cheerleading and I'm in gifted Cambridge program in my school meaning all my classes are advanced. I checked my grades and I have all Bs and one C (I have 6 classes)! I only have two weeks left until my teachers close thier gradebooks so what can I goo to raise up atleast 4 of my grades to As? The C is in Math that I know I'm not good in, the numbers give me headaches and I just can't work out the problem. I have cheerleading on Tuesdays and Fridays so I can't stay for tutoring. Please help me!

Hey love, why don't you try going to tutoring and talking to your teacher about getting help after school. Math sucked for me in high school and I made sure my teacher knew I was serious about trying to get my grade up, if it meant constantly asking questions in class and staying after school/class Smile

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD
I am a straight A student but I don't feel like one. I did get 1st place in the science fair for the 6th grade but math is my problem. I sit by 2 SUPER good students. One of them is my friend but the other one is a bit of show off. They make me feel stupid when it takes me two minutes longer to do a problem than them! I don't want to rush and get the problem wrong! How can I make myself feel smarter in front of them???

Hey girlie! Anybody that makes you feel stupid is not a good friend, first and foremost. Secondly, you can always talk to your teacher about tutoring and after school help. That's the best way to feel better about math and  feel better about yourself in general Smile
