What are these bumps on my nipples?


I have been noticing on my chest that my nipples have bumps a bit bigger than goose bumps but they never go away. One is as big as a pinhead. I'm really worried it could be a disease or even cancer! What should I do?

OK, girlie, calm down. You’re gonna be just fine. Those bumps are perfectly normal—they even have a name! They are sebaceous glands called Montgomery Glands. They secrete an oily liquid that keeps your areola and nipple lubricated and protected from rough material that might irritate the otherwise sensitive skin.

When your nipple is stimulated (or it’s particularly cold outside…), you might notice that the bumps become a bit more noticeable. Again, totally normal, so no worries, sweetie!

I NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE!!!
I have this weird lump thing on my left boob, right above the nipple. It was just fine until today when I noticed it had become red, sore and swollen. I'm scared it might be cancer! I'm going to my doctor on Monday, but I would like advice on how I can calm down. Also, do you have any ideas what it could be?


Hey girl,

I'm glad to hear you are seeing a doctor! It could be harmful, but it may also just be a pimple or bug bite. There's no way to know without a doc, though, so try to stay calm until then. You are probably fine! Also, if you show your mom she can give you an opinion on what she thinks it might be.

Hey babe,

Nope, it's actually not a sign that your period is on its way. They're part of puberty since they usually pop up when your boobs are growing, so they're one of the things that could happen to your bod before your period. But they won't give you a better idea of when your period will come. That's impossible to predict for sure! Sorry girl!

i have almost the same thing! only mw bump in under my nipple and skin. i asked the school nurse and she said it could b hormones, growing boobs or even worse! MY PERIOD!!! and i am only 11!!! and now i have to have pads in my backpack!!! i feel the same way as you probly do!

I think its okay to start kissing when you think you are ready for it. But I wouldnt just start doing it because your friends are ready and you arent. But it is a lot of fun and its exciting.

Okay this is really random but my friends think they should start kissing now but i think we are way too young. We are only 12. It doens't make any sense to me. Is it a good time to start kissing or what is a good age to start?

Take the stairs more than once. When you’re at home, run up and down the stairs three or four times before heading to your room. It’s a sneaky way to stay active.
