Need a friend to give you the lil’ extra boost you need to power through those sweat seshes? You’re not alone! Exercising with a pal benefits both of you as you push each other towards your goal! Keep these simple things in mind to find your perf workout pal:
Ya gotta have similar abilities
Helping out a friend who may need a little more of a push than you is all well and good, but it doesn’t really benefit you as much. Find someone who has similar abilities as you, whether that means someone who can rival you on the basketball court or can keep up with you on a long run. That way, you both will get the most outta your time.
Ya gotta have similar goals
Are you pumped to get in shape for soccer in the fall, but your BFF is totally focused on the swim team this summer? You can always alternate which goal to work on, but it’s best when you have the same target in mind. It won’t help ya make the squad if you can swim a lap in 30 seconds, but can’t head the soccer ball to save your life.
Ya gotta have a similar sched
Both want to improve your mile time? Check. Both can keep up with each other? Check. Both can get together every other day at 3:30? Uh-oh. There’s no point in having the partner if whenever you’re free she’s at band practice and whenever she’s ready to go you’re studying. But what do you do if you two really want to help each other, but just can’t seem to work it out? Try checking in with each other regularly. A quick IM or text asking how their work outs are going every couple days will keep you both on track.
