Last year, we chatted up Megan Kent, the creator of Love Gone Apparel. Back then, she was just 10 years old and her company had barely gotten off the ground. Now her line of artsy T-shirts is totally taking off! In February, Megan and her mom flew to L.A. to present their line to stars before the Academy Awards.

Girls’ Life: What inspired you to start the line?
Megan Kent: When I see people walking around with Aeropostale or Hollister shirts I wondered how cool it would feel to see people wearing Love Gone shirts.
GL: Who did you get to speak with and meet at the Oscar Suite trip?
Megan: The people who got nominated for the Oscars went to the London Hotel where they get free things so they can advertise them. I met Quinton Aaron from the movie
The Blind Side, one of the actors from
Wizards of Waverly Place and a few other people [I recognized]. We gave away 200 shirts.
GL: You’ll be dressing major rock stars soon. Any names you can share?
Megan: We’re giving the shirts to the bands Sick Puppies, Motley Crew and Poison. Poison is opening for Motley Crew, and my mom got us backstage passes!
GL: What’s the most exciting part of this experience?
Megan: The most exciting part was meeting celebrities in Los Angeles. The worst part of going to Los Angeles was the six-hour plane ride from Florida!
GL: Where can readers find your clothes?

GL: Will you only sell t-shirts or will you start selling other types of clothing?
Megan: After t-shirts we’ll start working on jackets for wintertime and long sleeve shirts.
GL: Are you starting to get noticed?
Megan: People know me, but sometimes my mom has to say, “Yeah, she was on AOL Business or in the New York Times” and they’ll be like “So that’s who I read about!” Actually, in L.A., I signed my first autograph!
GL: What advice do you have for girls who want to start their own company?
Megan: Don’t give up on your dream. You can’t just sit there and think it’s going to happen automatically or out of the blue. You have to work at it. I’ve been coming up with ideas for the past year and I didn’t give up. If I gave up, I wouldn’t be here.
