Your mom is totally right on this one, babe. As you go through puberty, your body experiences changes that aren’t reflected by a scale. The way your hormone levels fluctuate can affect the way your body carries weight. When you were younger, for example, most of your flab might have fallen around your belly. As you mature, your height could stay the same and your weight could stay the same, but your breasts might be larger or your bum might be curvier.
It’s totally natural and normal, babe, and while it totally stinks that your fave swimsuit doesn’t fit anymore, you should look on the bright side: Your bod is growing just the way it’s supposed to…and there’s probably a shopping trip in your future, too!
