Try some of those shorts that you can swim in--not guy's trunks, they're girl's and they are about the same size as a normal pair of shorts. You where them over swim bottoms, and you can wear them with one-pieces and two-pieces. Sorry, I can't remember the name!

So next week, my grade is having a swim party. I'm in 5th grade, and sometimes stuff in the kid's department doesn't fit. I'm worried that I will have to get a swimsuit from the junior's department. I really don't want to do that because I don't want to look too mature. What should I do?

No worries - you're better off finding a suit that fits you well than trying to squeeze into a kid's suit! (That might look even more provocative than shopping in juniors sizes!) Instead of crossing off the juniors dept from the list, look there for a more modest bathing suit. I promise they exist! One piece, tankinis, or even a bikini with a flirty skirt around the bottom and a full-coverage top (that means no triangle bikinis or deep V's) could do the trick. Go to the store with an open mind and grab a few choices to try on. It feels weird to show more skin at first, but it isn't bad - it just takes some getting used to Smile

greekprincess98, it sounds like he was just being flirty with you. If he was dirty he would have asked to see other things and he would want to show other things to. I think guys get like that at times just like we do, but we arent the ones usually saying it, they are. And if its just his abs he wants to show I would take him up on it. Its summer, its time for fun.

No matter what type of swimsuit you choose, make sure you feel completely comfortable in it! Think about if it can handle the diving board, the slide, laps, and serious splash fights. DO NOT GO STRAPLESS! When I was 12 I had a removable strap bathing suit. I did not have the straps on and went to pull myself out of the 4 feet section of the community pool. When doing this my bathing suit came down and my chest was totally exposed. Only a couple of girls saw but I learned my lesson. I never got in the pool with out my straps again.
And when trying to impress the guys, keep it simple, simple, casual, covered. In my many years of experience, guys approach me way more when I am in t-shirts than low-cut dresses.

Alright so I'm not sure my parents would let me--I'll reason with them--but I need to ask a swim-apparel related question.
So, I need help deciding what kind of swimsuit to get! Here's some facts you'll need: I'm a 34C or 36B cup (either fits), which usually makes it hard to find a tankini that's big enough for my boobs but not insanely loose around the rest of me; I hate suits that have no padding in the bra area; I've always found myself a little chubby in the lower stomach area (though everyone tells me I'm too skinny) so I'm not sure how a bikini would look; I don't want anything too low-cut.
Any ideas on swimsuits that would work for me (bikini or otherwise)? Thanks so much for the help!

Hi Girl,

You can always start with a "Hey, How are you?" and ask how his day was. Try to just make small talk as you are waiting for the bus. Time passes faster when you are talking. It will never hurt to go out of your way to try and make a new friend. Just smile and feel confident in yourself.

MOD MOD M-O-D! okay so the day before skool gets out, our team (which is like half the 6th graders, they just divide it to make it easier)is going to the pool for a field trip. and i need to buy a new bathing suit because we arent allowed to wear "string bikinis" and so i was wondering if u had advice about wat kind of bathing suit to get. like i want a 2-peice but i just dont know. and i guess i am really self-critical and think im fat so i am kinda uncomfortable with all hese guys i see everyday seeing me in a bathing suit. so yeah plz help!!

 

Hey girl,

Tankinis are a great option for a two-piece suit that offers plenty of coverage. If you want, you can also wear boy shorts too. Another suggestion is to get a cut-out one piece swim suit as well.

He wants to spend time with me there but I would also like to hang out with my friends. The thing is my friends dont really like him and I will have to be going between him and my friends. So should I cancel the date, just go anyways, or what should I do? I don't want to say no because I know it takes a lot of guts to ask someone and I dont want to be shallow.

Hey chica!  Yeah, I know what you mean, it can way confusing (even if you've been through it for a while!).  Sometimes the convo naturally leads to it - like, if you were talking about a certain movie or ice cream place, you could suggest going together.  Otherwise, you just have to make it happen.  Like, if you were walking out of class together, say "Hey, I was wondering if you would want to [insert activity here!] this weekend?  It's can be super nerve-wracking, but sometimes ya just gotta give it a shot! I know it can be stressful, but don't freak!  First off, try to take the "popular vs. not" thing out of the equation.  It will only affect you if you let it.  How you approach this sitch all depends on how well you guys have gotten to know each other.  Talk to him between classes, and smile and say "hey" when you see him in the hallway.  If you're ready to take it to the next level, you could suggest studying together after school, or try to exchange numbers with him.  Good luck chica!!

Hey girly! It's possible to think that you love him, but it's most likely just lust. Love is a whole lot more complicated. I totally know the feeling though. Do you both have any of the same classes? If so, why not ask him to study together sometime. majicbananaturtle, if he just turned 17 that means you could be as close as 2 years apart and that isnt that much. Plus guys that age are probably just as mature as we are but what would your mom think about dating a guy that age? I would think its okay but you dont want to be hiding a relationship. Personally I like older guys and so do many of my friends but guys who are 17 may be expecting more and wanting to do things so you may have to be ready for that.

Ok so I am having some boy issues. Lets call my boyfriend Josh, and the guy that has a crush on me Jake. Josh and I have been together for 6 months now and everything has been great. Well, my BGF, Jake, has had a crush on me for a year now, and he is not giving up any time soon. Yesterday (Friday), Jake told me that I was very pretty and that Josh was very lucky. He knew that I knew that he had a crush on me, and makes sure I remember that every day. Both of them are SUPER sweet, and I think I might like Jake. that is a tough situation--but I am sure you are in it because both boys see something really great in you, so keep it up.  I know that it is very hard to make these decisions, bc both boys mean a lot to you, and the last thing you want is to lose one of them or hurt them.  But trust me, dragging it on will only cause more hurt--so sometimes you just need to make a decision.  If you believe you do have feelings for Jake, then you have to end it with Josh.  There is no need to drag on the relationship or lead him on--just be honest with him, and let him know that you need to end it with him bc you don't want to lead him on or hurt him more.  Unfortunately, he will still be hurt and things may never be the same between you two---but time will heal, and you're doing the right thing.  So good luck with everything, girlie! thanks for sharing Smile

Hey gurl! One things for sure. You'll hurt him more in the long run if you stay with him just cause you feel like you have to, rather than if you just break up with him now. wearing a bikini have pros and cons. while wearing a more conservative outfit doesn't. you might not get all the guy's attention but one approach is a high probability of interest on your personality, not on your skin alone. another thing is, personality contributes a more larger part on being beautiful, rather than outfits.

Something WAY more important than how revealing your suit is how you act in it.

A girl can wear a skimpy bikini, but as long as her behavior is really modest, she won't look so slutty.

A girl can wear a modest 1-piece, but if she behaves a certain way, she can still come off as slutty.

MOD MOD MOD Hi for end of the year trip at school we r going a lot of places to swim but i don't have a swim suit. I have big thighs and a small belly but with a little fat.So what would be the bet swim suit?

 

Hey girl. Have you tried asking one of your parents to go bathing suit shopping? If you ask them nicely for bathing suit and tell them that you really do need one for your school trip then hopefully they'll take you to go looking. Once you're at a store, I would suggest looking for a tankini or bikini with a ruffled skirt, those types tend to look great no matter what body type you have. But no matter what, just make sure you buy a bathing suit that you feel comfortable in. You won't have fun on your school trip if you waste your time being self-conscious for no reason!

MOD MOD MOD I'm VERY petite, and since I am, most people don't realize that i'm 13! It's very frustrating (not to mention ANNOYING) when people treat me like I'm 2! What kinds of clothes should I get to make me look older this summer? Thank you! ♥

 

Hey chica. If you want to look a little older, it's fine to try out some floral sun-dresses, fitted shorts, or cute sandals. But just remember that when you're getting dressed you should be wearing clothing that you feel comfortable in. Dress for yourself! Not for others.

i like this guy who is really good friends wit my best friend, but he doesnt know me all that well. my best friends really wants me and him to go out. so i got a phone recently, and (without telling me) she texted him and was like, "anna got a phone. do you want her number so you can txt her?" and was like, "nah, not right now." and she was like, "why not? do yo hate her or something?" and he just said "nah". WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? and would it be wierd if i texted him cuz i have his number but he doesnt have mine and he probs thinks in a psychofreak that stalks him. HELP ME!!!!!

 

Hey girly! If you're into this guy, ask your friend to have a small get together and invite you, him, and some other friends. If you're hanging out in a group setting, the situation won't seem forced and you can get to know each other a little bit better without feeling awkward. Texting him without knowing him may freak him out a little, so I'd steer clear of that until you two hang out. Good luck!

Hey chica! Talk to your mom and figure out why she won't let you get one. Then make a list of the reasons why you think you should be allowed to wear one, and discuss them with her. Make sure you talk to her in a mature way that might make her see it your way, and avoid yelling and arguing. Good luck girl!

Wow... that's moving a little fast! Sometimes guys and girls use the phrase "I love you" to tell you how much they like hanging out with you, appreciate you, etc. without actually meaning the love part. I totally respect the fact that you don't want to use it just yet! Instead, respond with a smile and say something like "You're SO sweet!" That way, you don't force yourself into saying something you don't mean but you still acknowledge what he said <3

Just a normal disposable razor (by BIC, Gillette, or another similar company) will do the trick! I use the same one for my underarms, bikini area, and legs Smile

I've been really wanting to know whether the guy I'm crushing on likes me back. He used to want to be around me and hug and carry me around, and he also used to text me about every other day. He isn't as touchy-feely with me anymore, and he doesn't even text me at all, though he still responds to mine. I still like him, but there are rumors that he's seeing (but not getting back together with) his ex-girlfriend. My friends are saying that he's playing hard-to-get, but I have no idea.
I want to know for sure if he likes me. I can't ever get him alone at school and he's busy all the time. Can I tell him over text? Should I be so straightforward? I'm tired of trying to be subtle, and it's not working. I really want to know!

He could be trying to play hard-to-get, but it sounds to me like his feelings might have changed over time. If you've got the confidence to do it (and you should), be straight with him: tell him you do like him, but you don't want to force him into convos and stuff if he isn't into it. It'll really be worth it - you'll find out either way and won't waste time being uncertain anymore!

My bod doesn't work with a one-piece(My torso is too long and if I go a size bigger things rarely work), and I can't wear bikinis, so instead I wear tankinis! They can be uber cute!!! <3

I absolutely HATE bikinis! They look so weird plus my stomach looks kind of hairy(ew). I look pretty good in a one-piece! Can someone say curves?? If you wear one-pieces it looks better becuase it give your body more shape! YOU ARE FINE GIRL! ROCK WHAT YOU GOT!

I have a nice body and I've worked hard with dieting and workouts to get it that way, so I'm going to be showing it off in my itsy bitsy bikini Smile And I feel super confident so I don't think I should cover up just because guys will give you more attention for showing some skin! This is good advice if you dont want attention. When I wear my bikini I get the most looks, some of them I dont want, when I have worn my one piece its less attention.

So I would listen to your mom if you want or talk to her about letting you wear a bikini. My dad still hates when I wear a bikini since some of the one I have are kind of small but its no worse than what a lot of my friends wear.
