How to sign yearbooks with style

Check these out, too...

  • 5 so-cute Earth Day date ideas
  • 5 last-minute ways to lift your grades
  • 7 spring dates on the cheap
  • How not to pull an all-nighter (and stay sane if you have to)
  • 16 fun in the sun summertime dates
It’s no secret: When it comes to end-of-school fun, nothing beats ditching class for some serious yearbook signing! But when your hand starts to cramp from scrawling LYLAS in all of your sweeties’ books, what’s a girl to do? Look no further! We’ve got stellar tips to take your yearbook messages from blah to totally brilliant.

Get personal

Writing the same thing in all of your girls’ books is easy, sure, but it might make ‘em wonder just how much you care. Show off your super thoughtful self with a message that’s short, sure, but totally calls attention to your friendship. Even a quick “Couldn’t have it made it through U.S. history without ya!” will make your bud smile, and will help ya recall the school year decades from now.

Insert inside joke here

Everybody loves a good inside joke, and the great thing about sharing ‘em in yearbooks is that it’s totally between the two of you…unlike when y’all crack up during lunch. Keep the chuckles coming, cutie.

Keep it PG

I don’t know about your Mom, but mine loves to flip through my yearbook. Do your bud a favor and ditch the curse words or rude phrases…nobody really needs to see that, do they?

Get artsy

Nobody said you’ve gotta stick to the ABCs, right? Challenge your bud to a game of hangman, dots or tic-tac-toe in the margins of your yearbook, or do a quick doodle of a funny thing that happened during the year.

Make plans

Why say “see ya next year” when you could hang over the summer. Even if you and your best school friend don’t live in the same neighborhood, that doesn’t mean you can’t plan a sleepover or a shopping trip sometime this summer. Try getting your whole gang together for a park picnic, pool party or amusement park outing.

Spill, babes! What are your best yearbook-signing secrets?

Mod. A few weeks ago I noticed that my friends wouldn't let me talk at lunch. When ever I tried to say something they would ignore me and I eventually gave up. But When ever I was talking they would interrupt and start a new story and wouldn't let me Finnish. I never talk at lunch because they won't let me. And when I'm arround they don't talk to me. Idk If it's something I did or said but I want this to stop. it feels like they dont love me like I love them. Please they'll me what to do!!!!!!
May9

Hey Chica!

Hmm..sounds like your friends have been acting a little weird. Next time you get them alone, ask them about it. Be calm and say, "I feel like you guys have been ignoring me for the past couple weeks and it's made me feel really left out,". When confronted in person, they're more likely to tell you what has been going on. Maybe they didn't even realize you were hurt, or maybe they're mad you got that pink Abercrombie shirt they all wanted (trust me, my friends and I have had plenty of fights over clothing..). Talking about it is the best solution. If they keep acting weird, keep your distance. Introduce yourself to the new shy girl in math class or the athletic girl in gym.

My closest friends we trade choose a page and then write on it in a light marker or pencil "RESERVED FOR (enter name)" so then that page belongs to us. Then we go to each others house and thats when we sign them. We write B I G long letters.

MOD MOD MOD I have a really big problem. I used to belong to this really amazing group of friends. But then this year I kinda got pulled away from them-it wasn't their fault, somebody else-but now that other girl is hanging out with someone else. Well now I can't get back into my old group. They are all really great girls, but my two closest friends seem to be drifting apart from me. They've become REALLY good friends with some other girls and it makes me sad to know that they are all doing things without me. It seems like my former BFFs don't want to hang out with me and that there is always someone else they would rather hang with. But, when it's just us three again, or two of us, we are so close again. It feels like I don't belong anywhere and I just really want to get back into my old group. I've been miserable everyday seeing them laughing at lunch, and seeing all those pics they post on facebook...that I could have been in. Please please help!!

Hey chica, you should try reaching out to these girls. Send them a message over Facebook and invite them to a sleepover. That way they'll see how much fun you guys all have together. Smile

I have an inside joke with 2 friends and we all wrote it in our yearbooks with photo's from the event. They actually had a photo to match! It was us in out tent on Duke of Ed. "Tha Village!" is now written underneath in glitter pen, on one of my besties and on mine I left it plain and made everyone sign the "autographs" pages.

But also I try and get phone numbers, addresses and FULL names. So I can go back and contact them later.

Then I match face, name and contact so it's easy to find people later on in life or over the summer.

If you have an i in your name it is great to make smilies, hearts, and stars. Like in the advice above you should always include an inside joke. It makes your BFF laugh forever.

MOD!
My BFF is über popular with everyone. I'm sort of, but not as much. I am making friends with this other group of girls-still staying close with my old besties-but how can I be more included? We have sports together 5 days a week, have 3 classes together, text alot, and hang out at school. But afterwards I'm never included in their plans. My BFF is-but she's not as close as I am!!! HELP! how do I get invited to their houses/invite them to mine!!??
Thanks,
Lucy
Anybody else who has advice PLEASE HELP ME!

Hey girl, I'd set the trend by inviting them to your house first. I'd assume if that goes well, they'll def include you in the group after at their houses.

PLZ!!! THX

Hey girly girl! If you do want to go to a private school next year, I'd try to get involved in a sport or activity prior to the first day of school. That way, you can make some friends, so that it'll be a little less easier come time for school to start Smile

Mod!!!! Ok so in a couple of days I will be 13! I love having a birthday party and all that but I really want to stay a kid. Like I won't be able to eat of the kids menu, get discounts, and etc. Plus in about 2 summers I'm gonna have to work... ew right? I REALLY don't want to grow up, I love being silly. Please help me look forward to my birthday instead of hating the fact of me becoming a teenager... thanksSmile

Hey girl, being young is way fun, but there are so many benefits to being a teen!  Your parents will likely give you more freedoms as you mature, and there's all kinds of things you can look forward to - driving, going on real dates, high school, and college!  I promise you, you have plenty of opportunities for silly fun in the future - more than you can imagine!  Besides, age is just a number - you will always be you, and that's fabulous. MOD Ok, so ive liked this same guy for a long time, and he's a big flirt. his way of flirting is like a 1st grader (we're in 9th), he'll throw things at me, push me, hit me, (never in an actual harmful way)but i like it. we've known each other forever, and even grew up together. but whenever we're alone, we get kind of shy. i dont have problems talking to other guys and him vice versa with other girls. ive told him i liked him, but i think he thinks i was joking. i want to set him straight, but im scared he doesnt like me as much as i like him.

Hey chickadee! I'd make sure to tell him that you like him when you're alone... maybe, text it to him, and let him know that you're serious. Or, invite him to hang sometime, like go to the movies, with just you. That would send the message.

Hey girly girl! I'd be honest with your mom and let her know how you feel. Maybe, offer to invite them over to your place, so she can meet them and see how nice they are. Or, mention to her that it'll be in a big group, and you won't be alone.

MOD! MOD! Becca G. I like a boy named Jake. I think you might remember him from one of my other questions. He knows that i like him, and he likes me back. We dont talk at all though. We used to sort of be friends in fifth grade(we are in seventh now). I want to be able to ask him to dance at the next dance if he doesnt ask me. We are both shy, and I dont know what to say that wouldnt make really akward. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!!!

Hey chica! You should totally ask him to the dance! Especially since you both like each other Smile

I'd ask him if he's going with anyone yet... pretty casual... and if he says no, just flat out ask if he wants to go with you! It sounds scary, but it'll be so worth it, and you'll have so much fun. Maybe, text it or ask him online, so that it's not as awkward in person. Or, pass him an old-fashioned note in class! Smile

hey girlie,

that's cute that you guys have inside jokes Smile  This one is all on you...I don't know the reason behind those nicknames, but you can mention something about that.  Either way, just let the msg me short and sweet...as long as you address him by that nickname, it's cute enough! hey girlie,

this is totally up to you--it's your chance to show your personality! You can always sign your name in a simple way...and draw a cute like picture next to it.  Be creative, and you can practice as much as you like at home! No one will know Smile Have fun and good luck!

Thanks! I needed this! ***********MOD*********** Okay so my friend and this guy met over thsi FaceBook kinda thing. She is 14 and he is 17. They have talked for a while and have started to talk over the phone and are making plans to meet over the summer. She says her Mom is fine with all of this, and she keeps telling me how happy she is. I have showed my concern, but she says it is fine with her Mom so I just kinda "Congrats!" whnever she tells me the progress she has made over the phone, but I am worried, what should I do?! Thanks!

Hey chickadee! I'd talk to her mom about it when she's not around, and let her know your concerns. It's possible that your pal is lying, and hasn't actually told her mom. I'd definately be concerned. However, if she wants to meet him, then I'd make sure to go with her if you can, and meet him in a public place, like the mall.
