Fewer teens to have summer jobs this year

If you’ve got your heart set on lifeguarding or scooping ice cream this summer, your chances might be slowly sinking. NBC News in Chicago reported that the Chicago Urban League found that as few as 25 percent of 16 to 19 year olds were likely to be employed this summer.

Our response? Ouch. Sure, your wallets might be feeling the pinch, but the findings of one report certainly don’t mean you have to be hurtin’ for cash all summer long. If ya wanna be rollin’ in the dough, then it’s time to get creative, chicas.

Stay tuned for GL’s June/July 2011 issue for tips from fantastic femmes who have struck out on their own and have lotsa green to show for their entrepreneurship. We’ll have more from these business-savvy babes on girlslife.com.
