Summer vacay is right around the corner, but that doesn’t mean your
workouts should take a hiatus. This year, we’re challenging you to bust
outta that comfort zone (we’re looking at you, treadmill) and take your
routine to the next level. Here are a few hints:
Go harder and build your endurance
Put yourself to the ultimate endurance test this summer by training to complete a mini-triathlon. Mini-triathlons entail running a 5K race, biking 12 miles and swimming a half-mile. Sounds daunting? Training for a mini will give you the ultimate full-body workout and provide you with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Seek out a week-by-week training schedule online, and make sure you sign up to participate in a race! It might seem tough now, but when you cross that finish line, you’ll feel amazing.
Try something you’ve never done before
Make this summer about new experiences. Never gone rock climbing? Find a friend and hit up your local climbing gym. Dying to dance? Look up hip hop, Zumba or other modern dance classes in your area. Not only will you have a ton of fun and meet new friends, the new exercise you’re getting will allow you to see results quicker than if you were just doing another lap around the track. Whether you grab your BFF or go solo, do something new this summer!
Get flexible with a 30-day challenge
Whether you run cross country, cheer or are on the soccer team, the perks of being flexible are endless. Limber up this summer by taking on a 30-day yoga challenge. Find a great video online, a podcast you can download or a local class, and make a commitment to yourself and to your yoga mat. You’ll start to see benefits in all areas—from toned muscles to flexible joints. Our hint? Try to set aside 20-30 minutes at the same time every day for your yoga time.
So, girlies, which will you try?
