5 ways to shake up your ab routine

Let’s be honest: Crunches are boring and rarely lead to results. That said, we’ve got five moves that will tighten your middle and are fun. Grab a bud and get ready to crank your core work.

1. Planks with a twist
Start in a push-up position. Tighten your abs. Keeping your middle contracted, bend your left knee in toward your belly button. Hold for one breath. Return to start. Repeat on the other side. Continue for one minute.

2. Partner sit-ups
You’re gonna need a partner and a 8-pound medicine ball for this. Sit across from you bud, with your knees bent and toes touching. One girl should hold the medicine ball and do a sit-up. When she gets back to the top, she should toss the ball to her bud. Repeat back and forth for 20 reps each.

3. Medicine ball pass
Stand back to back with your bud. One girl should start with the ball and twist her torso to pass it to her partner. Keep passing it back and forth (alternate directions to keep it interesting) for 20 reps.

4. Shoulder stand
Start laying on the your back. Place your hands palm side down under your lower back. Using your abs, lift your whole body up until you are perpendicular to the floor and your weight is resting your shoulders. Note: DO NOT put pressure on your neck. It’s easiest if you start by lifting your legs up, then your butt and then, finally, your torso.

5. V-ups
Start on your back with your legs straight out and your arms over your head. At the same moment, lift your arms and legs up until your body forms a “V” shape. Keep your legs straight! Slowly lower back to start. Repeat 20 times.

is it healthy to exercise more than an hour a day? I really want to lose weight, not only to look good,but to feel better about myself & manage my type 1 diabetes better. Any tips on how to lose weight fast?




Hey girl,

It's generally best to exercise for about 45 mins-1 hour each day so you don't overwork yourself.  To lose weight, you gotta do it the old-fashioned way by eating healthy and exercising at least 4 days a week. Good luck! x0x0

Mod Mod Mod!!! the tips for abs are good but will it get rid of the fat on the lower part of your stomach? Is the lower part of your stomach even part of your abs?

MOD ok I have two questions 1) for the fourth one on here (shoulder stand). How long do we do it for, or how many times do we do it? 2) Ok, so when I'm standing normally, and I'm wearing a tight shirt, you can see my like my belly bump. but it doesn't look bad because my back curves a lot. But when I bend over it hangs out so much. I just wanna know like what are some really good workouts to lose a little belly. I don't want that much, and I've tried planks, leg lifts, crunches, and sit ups...can you help?

 

1)I'm sorry, I'm really not sure since I didn't put this article together.  That one's a toughie, though, so I imagine you only need one rep, and for not too long.  You can always work up as it gets easier.

2)Trying moves like the ones above, and doing them regularly, are your best bet.  It's actually very normal to not have a flat stomach when you move or stand different ways.  Take care of your bod, and don't be too hard on yourself!

hey girlie!

first of all, understand why you believe exercise would be good for you. Remind yourself that not only will it help keep you from developing diseases in the future, but it can actually help you look and feel beautiful right now (and have more confidence!).  Also, I would suggest trying a different form of exercise if you don't like running! Why don't you try workout DVDs (yoga, dance, pilates) or try a sport (soccer, frisbee, biking, swimming).  Make exercise something fun for you, and that will encourage you!

Hey girlie -- I don't know, but your doctor will. Nonetheless, keep in mind that your body will fluctuate in size over the next few years, so you should focus on loving it, as is Smile

Hey girlie -- keep in mind that young bodies fluctuate in weight over the years, so while you may be one weight now, your body will -- naturally --change as time goes on.

MOD, I feel really over weight! I'm 11 and I weigh 140 lbs! I know that's not normal and I want to burn calories and pounds so that my stomach isn't always hanging out. How can I? PLEASE HELP!

 

 

Hey girly! I know that you want advice, but you really need to talk to your doctor about something like this. They can tell you whether or not you even need to lose weight, and what you need to do to get to your goal.

Hey chickadee! Running or jogging... both are great exercises! Maybe, try running for a half hour each day, to start out with. It'll tone every part of your bod! Smile

MODMODMODMOD!!!
I was doing SO well with my exercise and everything, and then these past two weeks i just fell into this demotivational rut. I havent excercised in two weeks and i just feel so unmotivated and fat and gross and guilty. I feel guilty ALL the time. Ive had eating disorders in the past, so its nothing new to feel this way, but how can i get myself up and motivated again and make myself feel better? Thanks!

i usually jump around on my trampoline doing stretches, the flips and jumps while moving around and it helps all my muscles and my abs by doing various flips, back bends, sit-ups, etc. it really works Smile

I've asked my mom if I can save, buy new bras & emergency period supplies by a text-letter (shy girls, look on my profile for more!). she said yes. All i know is that we're going bra shopping after my sis goes to college (in August). But i'm scared to ask her when we're gonna teach me shaving & 4 the period supplies. Help! BTW, iI also wnat to ask if i can bra shop earlier Smile

Try a slight variation on the V-ups, too.
Instead of going up and down, get in to V-seat position and hold for twenty seconds. You can repeat it if you want too.
