Hey girlies! Check out this poem by a GL reader and let us know what you think in the comments. We think this poem is particularly appropriate given the special report topic we address in our out-so-soon June/July 2011 issue.

Cuts

I cut.

I don't know why.
I cut, and I don't cry.

I cut, but I don't show,

I cut, and I just don't know,

what to do next,

because my mind is perplexed,

that I put on this mask,

and do what i'm asked.
I'll walk out the door,

where no one knows,

I'll walk out the door,

where the cuts don't show.

Everyone thinks I'm perfect,

that i have my life together.

Everyone has no idea,

that I cut.

The writer of this poem wanted us to know (and we’re sharing) that she is working through all of her issues, and poetry has become a part of that process. We wish her luck, love and well-being!

It's okay, you're not alone. I do it too and some of my friends have done it before. I don't know if they still do, but if they can get better, I know you can too. Don't give up on yourself there's a way through. If you need to talk know that me and mostly everyone on girls life are here for you =)

A very ordinary little poem. The author gets credit for rhyming "next" and "perplexed", though.

Me too, girl, me too. There are a lot of people who know I used to cut last year, because I was going through a lot of stuff. But the thing is, they all think I got better. Now, I'm going through so many insecurity issues that cutting... it makes me feel pretty. Weird, huh? My girlfriend (I'm gay) knows about some of the more recent ones, and I think my best guy friend does too, but the latest have all been a secret. And truthfully, I don't want to let anyone I know personally see. It makes me feel good, but they'll make me feel bad. I dunno. Just letting you know that you're not alone, I guess.

I have eczema(a disease of the skin that leaves big scabs on your skin and dark rashes) instead of cutting, i pick at the scabs. i feel better when i see the blood and i know its a problem. Im planning on talking to my Best Friend in the world about it because im starting to think about commiting suicide. My great Aunt Louise died this year, i never knew who my grandparents on my dad's side were, my mom is threatening to leave my family over and over again, and my cousin had jumped off a 2 story building for self defence because someone was trying to harm her. She was in the hospital with a broken hip and arm. I seem like the perfect child, but im not. I carry a blue notebook around with poetry in it. mostly depressing poetry. I feel that i can only trust my best friend. i don't necessarily want feedback. i just want to get this out, so i can stop crying myself to sleep. I don't know how this started but i want to finish it. Thank you for reading and for caring. I love you all! : )

I cut. I can't tell my parents because they think I have it all good. The only people who know that I cut are, my boyfriend, his sister, two of my guy friends, and another girl from school who cuts. It's helpin me get through this but, I can't get professional help.

hey girlie,

MOD MOD PLEASE HELP!
MY FRIEND SAID SHE IS THINKING ABOUT COMMITING SUCIDE!!!!
WHAT DO I DO???? I'm completely flipped out please help!!!!!!!

Hi Girl,

Please please tell your friend that you don't want her to hurt herself and try to encourage her to talk to a counselor. Let her know that you are there for her. I would also tell an adult like a teacher or your parents about her thoughts of suicide so they can tell her parents and help intervene. Here are also some resources as well: http://www.girlslife.com/post/2008/08/04/HELP!2.aspx

MOD MOD MOD
i went to the park with my friend, and i gave her this idea to leave her # for this cute guy, well she left my # and now he is texting me thinking im her. would it be wrong to talk to him without her knowing,i want to know if guys like me for me.

Hey girl,

You can talk to this boy, but you are tricking him into thinking you are someone else. It's okay to want to know if guys like you for you, but I think you should be upfront to this boy about who you are. If your friend has been asking if this boy ever texted you thinking it was her, it is also unfair to her since you gave her the idea to leave a number for this boy.

cutting is truly horrible. you feel like your doing good, but the scars just remind you of the problem. Girls, if you are cutting/thinking about it DO NOT. there is always a better situation. Talk to someone and give yourself time to think on the positive side. If you have any questions, comment on my profile!

MOD! MOD! MOD!
is it bad if you're 14 and you've never even really like a guy? i just think its pointless to date at a young age, and all the guys i somewhat know, i think are pervs, jerks, or just dont like them that way. But all my friends have LOTSA crushes....does this mean im lesbo?????????

Hey girl, not at all! It just means no one has struck your fancy yet. Don't worry about it. Trust me when I say middle school guys aren't worth it anyway. Wait until they're a little older and a tad bit more mature.

Mod mod mod!!!!
Im in 8th grade and im staring to like this 7th grader in my p.e. class. Hes reeeaaalllyy cute and from what my friends have told he sounds like hes my type. I want to get to know him but theres only a few weeks left of school AND we wont be in the same school next year!! What do i do?!?!- thanks Smile

Hey girl, why not invite him to be on your team next time in gym or compliment his game? Because you're leaving, look at it as a no-risk challenge: talk to him and try to be friends. If it doesn't work out? Oh well, it's not like you're going to school together next year anyway! Nothing to lose!
