Tired of the trash talk


 
One of my friends has been talking trash about everyone in our crew, including me. She’s nice to me face-to-face, but then she starts badmouthing me to our other friends when I’m not around. She clearly doesn’t like me. How do I get rid of her?

Dear Tired of It,
She clearly doesn’t like you? All that’s clear is she likes to gossip. And now the rest of you are talking about her behind her back, too. This behavior among groups of friends is normal, but mean-spirited gossip can be destructive. Instead of trying  to get rid of your friend, can you help her change her ways? Next time she wants to trash someone nice, say, “Nobody’s perfect, but I like her, so I don’t want to criticize her.” Kindness beats cruelty every time. And next time the girls want to dish, pick a celeb or dissect a character in a new movie or book. The world can be hard enough – friends should support friends.

MOD MOD MOD!! Okay. So in 4th grade I knew this girl who I wanted to be just like!! Then, when i got to know her more, it seemed she wanted to be EXACTLY like me!! She copyed my handwriting, what I would read, my clothes (once she asked me what I was wearing the next day, I told her, and she wore the same shirt and jean shorts...)my favorite movies, and the guys I liked! I tried to ignore it, and then she went to another school in 5th grade. But once in 6th grade, we ended up at the same school again...and the whole cycle started over! She follows me around everywhere, signs up for the same sports and clubs as me, and when I became best friends with this other girl, she tried to get that girl to hate me so that I could only hang out with her!!! Am I crazy for needing some space??




Not at all -- explain this to her, gently.

what do you when your best friend moved away a year ago and you keep in touch but she says were not as close as we were and you are visiting this summer... should i not to

Why are you calling her your friend? Look up the meaning of friend. You seriously don't seem to trust her and your not fond of her either. Being/saying mean things to someone's face is a bother, and too much drama. I know plenty of people who vent about others when their not around. I haven't found one girl who doesn't and don't say your the one who doesn't sooner or later you will., yet whenever that person eaves drops or was tattled to they become so defensive. Seriously I'm sick of them whining on and on! I never get to vent, the one time I found someone I thought I could trust, I went and vented to her. What did that get me?! One to many friendships destroyed. People vent to me all the time and I'm okay with it since it's normal, but when I vent, oh no the nicest girl you will ever meet finally can get it kicked where it hurts! Isn't it okay to vent your problems to someone about a person they don't know?! go with the GL's advice. I know I sound mean, but I'm speaking honestly.Tong

I have a friend doing this to me right now. Its so unfair and wrong. And it hurts the worst because she acts like my friend to my face.

This is one of the worst things a so-called friend can do.
