So maybe you and your besties won’t be able to find a
magical pair of pants to fit all of you like Tibby, Lena, Carmen and Bridget in
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,
but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay connected this summer!
For an alternative that’s just as fun, try creating a
sisterhood of the traveling journal.
Get started
Run out and grab a cute journal, notebook or scrapbook. We
love the idea of purchasing a plain book and throwing a decorating party with
your BFFs. You can cut out your names from your favorite magazine, pictures of
inspiring celebs and more. Glue on a few rhinestones to add some sparkle and
faux flower or two, and you’ll have the perfect book in which to record your
summer adventures. For a li’l bit of entertainment, watch the two Traveling
Pants films.
It’s all about organization
Create a system for passing along the journal. For example, every week you could pass
the journal along to a new girl, either by leaving it in her mailbox if you
can’t see her in person or tossing it in the mail. Everyone gets a certain
amount of time with the book before they have to pass it on. While they have
it, they can write down what they’re doing, doodle cartoons or paste in
pictures and mementos.
Need some inspiration?
Not sure what to write? We’ve got a boatload of ideas to get
your creative juices flowing:
Storytelling – Write
a novel or a silly story as a group. Each girl writes a chapter of the story
when it’s her turn to have the journal. By the time the summer is over, the
story needs to be finished, to plan accordingly!
Secret keeper – Make
this a book of confessions. Promise each other that whatever you write in the
journal stays among your group. No gossiping allowed! Let this be a space to be
open and honest.
Doodle diary – If
your group isn’t packed with poets, why not draw your way through the summer
instead? Create a comic book with each girl contributing recurring characters,
or simply doodle away, darling!
How are you gonna keep in touch with your besties this
summer, babes?
