We Tried It: Get warmed up with Zumba

Let's be honest: Warming up before every sporting event or workout can be a total pain. Because typical stretches can be super boring, we tried decided to incorporate some Zumba dance moves into our get-ready routine.
Before a big game:
You'll want to stretch your core muscles and get your adrenalin pumping. That’s why we’re groovin’ on these quick, five-minute workouts that infuse stretching, hip-hop steps, Latin dance moves and aerobics all in one. Turn on some fun music and try the basic Merengue, a fun and flirty style of Latin American dance (it’s like a march) but the dancer doesn't really lift her feet off the ground. While moving your hips and feet back and forth, arms should move in small circular motions and should remain close to the hips or the waist. Repeat this step and add a little bit of your own flavor to it and you're instantly warmer.
Before a dance recital:
You’ll need to open up your back and core muscles and stretch out your legs and feet. Try this: Pick an upbeat Salsa tune that makes you feel good and dance in small quick steps. Once you have a feel for the beat, step your right foot out to the side, then step in place using your left foot. Next, you'll want to step back in with the right foot. Quickly, repeat the same pattern to the left. Try rolling your head around to your opposite shoulders while you dance to the beat to loosen up your neck and upper back. You’ll get your heart beating and blood flowing through your muscles, without straining your bones or joints.
Before a run or an intense workout:
It’s important that you loosen up your quads and hamstrings and open up your hip flexors. If hip hop is more your speed, you'll love this Zumba step! First, find a great Reggaeton song, or anything with a hip hop beat and Latin feel. These Zumba steps call for intense feet stomping, strong arms and bent knees.
Rather than injure yourself, take the extra five minutes to get your bod warm. We just so happen to think Zumba is the perfect way to do it!

Ever get yelled at for doodling on your classwork? Doodles help boost brain activity and creativity, so just try drawing on a separate piece of paper.
What is your fave class in school?
