4 perfect summer updos

Check these out, too...

  • Craft a DIY flower crown in 6 easy steps
  • Get a pro pedi at home
  • Spring hair bling under $10
  • Get gorgeous spring date night makeup
  • Beauty Spy: Fresh faced and simple Ann Marie E.
This summer, skip the boring pony for a chic updo that’ll keep your hair off your neck and outta your eyes. The best part? All you’ll need for these simple styles are a few elastics, some pins and some smoothing shine serum to get a totally frizz-free mane. Sweet and simple!

Low braid wrap-around
Whether you’re rockin’ the lifeguard chair or watchin’ the kiddies next door, this no-maintenance style is your best bet. Plus, it’s super pretty!
How-to:
    •   Smooth in a shine serum throughout hair to dial down frizz.
    •   Gather all your tresses in a low pony at the back of your head, and secure with an elastic.
    •   Take a ½-inch section from the base of the ponytail and wrap it around the hair elastic so it’s hidden. Then, tuck the loose piece back into the elastic underneath the ponytail.
    •   Braid your ponytail, and secure the end with another elastic. Wrap it around the elastic

Wild Harvest Brazilian Smooth Straight & Shiny Serum, $7, ulta.com

Sky-high ballerina bun
Got a fab summer bash to attend? The ballerina bun is perfect for birthday parties, family dinners or a night at the movies. So glam!
How-to:
    •   Work a shine serum into hair.
    •   Create a high ponytail at the crown of your head (or a bit above) and secure with an elastic.
    •   With a fine-tooth comb, gently tease the pony to give it more volume.
    •   Coil the pony and wrap it around the base, making it into a bun. Secure with an elastic and pin in place, if necessary.

Low knot
Perfect when your hair has a bit of texture from the sea salt waves and air, this looks way more intricate than it actually is. You’ll need long hair to pull this off. Curly girls, beware of tangles!
How-to:
    •   Find your natural part (side, middle, etc.) and divide hair into two sections.
    •   Gather each section and tie hair into an actual knot, as if you were tying your shoelaces. Pull it tight.
    •   Tie the ends of the knot into a second knot, as if you were tying a double knot. Pull it tight, then secure all around with pins.

Low knot (with a twist!)
A twist on the low knot, the bun version is totally gorge for a nighttime stroll on the boardwalk or ride around the ferris wheel with your crush. Tuck a bloom behind one ear. Swoon!
How-to:
    •   Secure a ponytail in the middle of your head, and separate it into two sections.
    •   Twist one section of hair around the base of your pony, then twist the other section around that the other way. Secure your twisted bun with another elastic.
    •   Make sure to tuck the ends of your hair under the knot and secure with pins.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD, I'm thinking about getting a haircut this summer, but I don't know which haircut would look best on me. Right now, I have a layered cut with bangs. I have a round face and I wear my hair to the side, instead of in the middle. So which haircut would be great for my face shape? I also have black hair that's a little below my shoulder. Thanks! -izzyrox7198

Hey girly,
The best thing to do is look through magazines for pictures with round faces. Choose a style that you like and bring it to your hairstylist. They will be able to fix your hair just the way you want it and in a way that looks really good!

MODMODMOD..my hair is kind of short like it angles from the back of my hairline to the front touching my shoulders and im getting really bored with it. what do i do?

Hey girly,
Take a look at some pictures in magazines for ideas on what you want to do with your hair. Then, ask a hairstylist or go online to find out how to do these specific hairstyles. Have fun!

I have long stright vibint brown hair that gets oily all the time and looks like its glued to my head. Can you recomend a product to help it with oil and flatness?
Thanks!

Hey chica,

Try Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo and conditioner. Wash once (or even twice) with the shampoo, then put the conditioner on the ends ONLY - avoid your scalp, which is the most oily part. Rinse it out and pat your hair dry. I always use Drama Clean in the summer when I sweat more often because it helps keep my hair bouncy and less oily! And the best part - it's totally affordable Smile

MOD MOD MOD
I just bought dove 2 in 1 nourishing oil care because every single one of my friends told me it's amazing. I have never dyed, straightened or done anything to my hair. I have wavy, blonde, thick hair about 4 inches past my shoulders. I have been reading online that dove is actually bad for your hair. Should I still try using dove today? Also what brand of shampoo do you use and is it any good?
Thanks!

Hey girlie!  Do you have naturally oily hair or dry hair? Frizzy and dry is the target for this shampoo, but I've heard this works well with all kinds of hair. I've recently fallen in love with Biolage Fortifying Shampoo. I have really curly hair (and somewhat of a shampoo addiction Smile so I have a million shampoos. For de-frizz I've found it's more about the after shower product. Go ahead and try the Dove, I haven't heard many bad reviews. Good luck!
