4 perfect summer updos

Check these out, too...

  • Craft a DIY flower crown in 6 easy steps
  • Get a pro pedi at home
  • Spring hair bling under $10
  • Get gorgeous spring date night makeup
This summer, skip the boring pony for a chic updo that’ll keep your hair off your neck and outta your eyes. The best part? All you’ll need for these simple styles are a few elastics, some pins and some smoothing shine serum to get a totally frizz-free mane. Sweet and simple!

Low braid wrap-around
Whether you’re rockin’ the lifeguard chair or watchin’ the kiddies next door, this no-maintenance style is your best bet. Plus, it’s super pretty!
How-to:
    •   Smooth in a shine serum throughout hair to dial down frizz.
    •   Gather all your tresses in a low pony at the back of your head, and secure with an elastic.
    •   Take a ½-inch section from the base of the ponytail and wrap it around the hair elastic so it’s hidden. Then, tuck the loose piece back into the elastic underneath the ponytail.
    •   Braid your ponytail, and secure the end with another elastic. Wrap it around the elastic

Wild Harvest Brazilian Smooth Straight & Shiny Serum, $7, ulta.com

Sky-high ballerina bun
Got a fab summer bash to attend? The ballerina bun is perfect for birthday parties, family dinners or a night at the movies. So glam!
How-to:
    •   Work a shine serum into hair.
    •   Create a high ponytail at the crown of your head (or a bit above) and secure with an elastic.
    •   With a fine-tooth comb, gently tease the pony to give it more volume.
    •   Coil the pony and wrap it around the base, making it into a bun. Secure with an elastic and pin in place, if necessary.

Low knot
Perfect when your hair has a bit of texture from the sea salt waves and air, this looks way more intricate than it actually is. You’ll need long hair to pull this off. Curly girls, beware of tangles!
How-to:
    •   Find your natural part (side, middle, etc.) and divide hair into two sections.
    •   Gather each section and tie hair into an actual knot, as if you were tying your shoelaces. Pull it tight.
    •   Tie the ends of the knot into a second knot, as if you were tying a double knot. Pull it tight, then secure all around with pins.

Low knot (with a twist!)
A twist on the low knot, the bun version is totally gorge for a nighttime stroll on the boardwalk or ride around the ferris wheel with your crush. Tuck a bloom behind one ear. Swoon!
How-to:
    •   Secure a ponytail in the middle of your head, and separate it into two sections.
    •   Twist one section of hair around the base of your pony, then twist the other section around that the other way. Secure your twisted bun with another elastic.
    •   Make sure to tuck the ends of your hair under the knot and secure with pins.

Please answer ASAP!!!! So I'm going to the amusement park and idk if I'll get my period! It isn't late or anything but sometimes I get it a few days early! I realllllly don't wanna bring a bag, especially since the only bag I have doesn't have a zipper and the strap is broken so it keeps breaking! I am gonna wear a pantiliner and I'll put another in my pocket, but do you think I should bring a bag? I can't put a tampon in my pocket because they're too big so yeah. And yesterday I was somewhere and I kept worrying I got my period so I kept going to the bathroom like a million times. So how do I make myself worrying! I wanna have a good day and not worry Smile) thanks you soo much Smile

Hey girl, if you're going with your fam or some of your girlies, see if someone else is bringing a bag that you can slip a tampon into. If not, I'd recommend bringing a bag. The last thing you want is to be worryin' all day, so if a little extra luggage is gonna help you enjoy the trip, then it'll be worth it.

MOD MOD MOD MOD There is this guy I like(John) and he likes me too but... he has a girlfriend and he is trying to break up with her and she's trying to break up with him, but she has not been to school since mid october and John does not have any way of communicating with her. Frown and John keeps asking me out and i keep having to say no and John has his friends asking me out for him sometimes, but I keep having to say no because that's cheating. And his best friend told me John likes me alot and can see us going out for a looong time(like all through high school were what John said) because John has liked me for months now and John normally loses interest in girls after a week. And lastly the only thing John is worried about is how this will affect our freindship if we break up. So what should I do if John asks me to be his girlfriend?
Thanks in advance Smile

MOD MOD MOD I have shoulder length thick, layered hair. My hair doesnt work with up-do's like ponytails, so im trying to find a way to fab-up hair while it is still down. What are some cute hair tricks I can use? Thanks for the help!

Hey chica. Have you tried clipping half of your hair up and leaving the other down? That's a very simple to change up your look in no time. You could also try a side braid, a french braid with the rest of your hair down, or a low bun.

MOD! i have heavy hair which i want to grow long, but it won't even stay in a ponytail! it's really annoying because everyone can have high buns for sport, but I have to have plaits all the time. I've tried almost every updo but as soon as I start moving it pulls my head really painfully and then the hairstyle falls out! what can I do, because I love sport but my hair always gets in the way?? i can't even have a simple pony!

Hey girlie,

If you've tried all those updos and still aren't having luck, try asking your hairdresser what you can do about the situation. He/she could give you a cut that thins out your locks a lil bit, making them easier to manage. Or they could recommend a hair gel/pomade/conditioner secret that the pros trust Smile

Hey babe. Bobby pins are your new best friend. You can do a lot of styles for longer hair if you pin back the pieces that might fall out. Play around and check out our hair section.

MOD MOD MOD!
About two months ago i drastically cut my hair. It now has layers and is about 10 inches shorter. I just started straightening my hair, i absolutely love how it looks but i'm noticing that i am getting split ends. Is straightening the reason why?

Hey babe. Straightening or anything that exposes your hair to heat can cause damage. Make sure that you are conditioning your locks and applying some sort of protection before blow drying (something like this:http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rlz=1T4TSNJ_enUS438US438&q=heat+styling+protection&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=15935964490178948096&sa=X&ei=gyATTueuLKf30gHOifSADg&ved=0CE4Q8wIwAQ#) Also, go natural every once and a while. Hey girl! Unfortunately that's the price to pay! I wish it wasn't! You could just leave the style in all day long, but that's the only solution. Sorry babe!

i love putting my hair in a single braid but it never stays i dont like french braids though becaus they hurt ... s there anyway i can keep my braid tight without it hurting so much?

Hey girl!

Try using a no-slip hair tie to make sure it stays put at the bottom, and use clips or bobby pins around your head so that pieces don't fall out. Hope that helps! x0x0

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD, I'm thinking about getting a haircut this summer, but I don't know which haircut would look best on me. Right now, I have a layered cut with bangs. I have a round face and I wear my hair to the side, instead of in the middle. So which haircut would be great for my face shape? I also have black hair that's a little below my shoulder. Thanks! -izzyrox7198

Hey girly,
The best thing to do is look through magazines for pictures with round faces. Choose a style that you like and bring it to your hairstylist. They will be able to fix your hair just the way you want it and in a way that looks really good!

Hey girly,
Take a look at some pictures in magazines for ideas on what you want to do with your hair. Then, ask a hairstylist or go online to find out how to do these specific hairstyles. Have fun!

I have long stright vibint brown hair that gets oily all the time and looks like its glued to my head. Can you recomend a product to help it with oil and flatness?
Thanks!

Hey chica,

Try Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo and conditioner. Wash once (or even twice) with the shampoo, then put the conditioner on the ends ONLY - avoid your scalp, which is the most oily part. Rinse it out and pat your hair dry. I always use Drama Clean in the summer when I sweat more often because it helps keep my hair bouncy and less oily! And the best part - it's totally affordable Smile

I just bought dove 2 in 1 nourishing oil care because every single one of my friends told me it's amazing. I have never dyed, straightened or done anything to my hair. I have wavy, blonde, thick hair about 4 inches past my shoulders. I have been reading online that dove is actually bad for your hair. Should I still try using dove today? Also what brand of shampoo do you use and is it any good?
Thanks!

Hey girlie!  Do you have naturally oily hair or dry hair? Frizzy and dry is the target for this shampoo, but I've heard this works well with all kinds of hair. I've recently fallen in love with Biolage Fortifying Shampoo. I have really curly hair (and somewhat of a shampoo addiction Smile so I have a million shampoos. For de-frizz I've found it's more about the after shower product. Go ahead and try the Dove, I haven't heard many bad reviews. Good luck!

MOD MOD MOD MOD;
I have wavy/curly hair (kinda between the two) and I haven't straightened it in a while or anything. How bad is a straightener for my hair? Also, how can I keep my hair from getting too crazy? Thanks

Hey babe! I know how frustrating it is to have to deal with unmanageable hair every day. There are some great products out there that can really work for taming curls and waves. It's all about trial and error though. It took me quite some time to find the perfect products. You will though, eventually. I finally am able to appreciate my curls and it's great! Straightening or curling your hair can damage it, but everything is fine in moderation. There are also damage treatment shampoos and conditioners to use after you have hot ironed your hair. Good luck!

Those are not the hottest Updos for summer please let me tell you. Well first you dont need the brand they said you needed no you could just need some hair lotion and any other product that is HEATHY for your hair. Then what you do next is you put it up going to a bun and stop and see were your at. then it should look messy. But in a cute way! ♥ For more thought of intrest go to www.google.com
then choose images and put in the box (messy bun) < just like that and then look at the 2nd one. Welcome

MOD MOD MOD Ok, so I have pin striaght mid belly length brown hair and I was wondering what your best tips for curling is and what are some ways to jazz it up without going curly or wavy. Thanks!

Hey girly girl! For curling, I love to use electric curlers. Just put them in and leave in for about a half hour. Then, blast with warm air before taking them out. As for other ways, you can always braid back your bands, or twist back a portion on each side. Also, have fun with headbands and cute barettes Smile

i need MAJOR hair help! my hair is about shoulder length and really thick and wavy. it frizzes all the time and doesn't stay brushed. i have weird "bangs" that are tapered down and one side looks ok, but the other doesn't have enough hair to look good. (side part) i don't want to have to put anything in my hair and i don't have time anyway. it looks all right down, but summers are too hot for that. i think front bangs, sort of tapered might look ok, but i'm too scared to do it. i could straighten it i guess, but i don't want to spend the money on a straightener if i hate it.

I think you should go for the bang look! Take a risk! As for the straightening try and borrow a friends straightner to see if you like the look before you get one of your own. xoxo kerra

First i think troians is better and second i have a question. my best friend used to have a boyfriend but they broke up becuse he was too controlling. Well there is no chance of them getting back toghether but he keeps following her everywhere. He constantly stalks her and whenever she talks to a guy he tries for her not to talk at all!.
What can i do or what can she do? HELP
thanks!!!!!!!

Hey girlie -- have you told your parents/her parents? It is very important that you get an adult involved in this type of situation, the sooner the better.

My hair is pin straight, and it doesn't have any volume. I don't like using a ton of product, and I usually let it air dry. What can I do to give it more volume without going overboard on products and heat? Also, I have a really hard time parting my hair, because it always messes up my cowlick in the back. Any tips? Thanks!

hey! try braiding your wet hair before bed and sleeping on it. It'll make it wavy Smile

mod! so its my best friends birthday party tomorrow, and our really close friend (lets call her) ..ashley..was supposed to come. were all really close like a group but i asked what she was gonna wear and she said her had to go to her uncles beachhouse. then i saw on facebook and it said her and her friend were gonna hang out that same night! she planned it after she was invited to the party. my best friend's really upset that she would do that, should we confront it to her? or not? and if we do confront her, what should we say? (shes extremely sensitive and takes things the wrong way alot)
thanks (:

Hey girlie! It's definitely not cool of your friend to lie to you guys. I wouldn't confront her before your friend's birthday party - you don't want drama getting in the way of your fun. When you do, eventually, talk to her about it, I think it would be best if your best friend just told Ashley that she saw her status on Facebook and was hurt that she lied to her. She should make sure to listen to what Ashley has to say, but make sure that her lying does not turn into a trend! Good luck and tell your friend happy birthday Smile

Play up your frock. Instead of pairing flats or pumps with that summer dress, try adding some edgy boots or sporty sneakers.
