I don't want to be a teen!

My birthday is coming up soon and I’ll be turning 13. I’m throwing a party and everything, but I just can’t get excited. I love being a tween! I don’t think I’m ready or the responsibility that comes with being a teenager. I’m worried I’ll have to be serious all the time. Can you help me get excited?

Growing up can be hard, babe, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun and exciting. Being a kid has it’s perks, but so does being a tween and a teen and an adult! Sure, you might get more chores…but you might also get more allowance. Plus, the older you are, the more people will be willing to give you a job. Hello, shopping spree! And OK, school is getting harder…but you’ll be learning about cool things that will be way-useful in the years to come.

To get excited for your big birthday, you need to start looking forward to all of the things you’ll be able to do as you grow older instead of missing the things you think you’ll be leaving behind.

And from one chica to another, here’s a secret: We never stop being kids. Sure, we might not go to middle school anymore or get away with pinning the naughty things we did on our sibs, but we still have a ball. We can still have a blast at Disney World or opt for skipping instead of walking (Hey, if Kate Middleton can do it, so can we!). Growing up does mean giving up the things you used to love. It means finding more things to embrace.

MOD MOD MOD
Is 15 too old for birthday party favors? I'm having a party for my birthday, and my mom said that I couldn't do a piñata or anything because I'm too old. But most of my party guests will be under 13- I'm inviting friends from school who are my age, friends from Irish Dance who are all younger than me, and friends that are close family friends who are also younger than me. (3 people are 15, one girl is almost 14, and then everyone else is under 11 [6 girls] ). Thanks!

Hey girl,

15 is definitely not too old for party favors. Have fun! x0x0

Mod, all teens have cell phones even kids like 7 and 8! I am 11 and I have no phone. SO if I get a phone please teach me some tips on how to take care of one, how to not lose it, and where to keep it. Thanks MOD!

hey! sure thing Smile keep it in a safe place close to you at all times like a purse or pocket. buy a case for it to minimize scratches or damage if you drop it. remember to switch the ringer off in school and theaters, but remember to turn it back on again later so that if you lose it and need to find it you might be able to hear it ring from a distance. good luck!

I know how you fell, I will be a teen next month, and I don't want to. To me, being a teenager is really serious, but I'm just gonna try, and you should too! My friends are all psyched up about it, so I just let their enthusiasm about it make me feel better. They are excited, so why can't I be?

MOD MOD MOD!
Okay, so i turned 13 a month ago. My room is REALLY messy. Like unfolded clothes all over the floor, books stacked up in random places, plastic water bottles everywhere, crafting stuff all messed up in my closet, stickers that my little 2 year old cousin put on the walls, towels that my little sisters threw on my floor, and other stuff that bothers me alot. Since i'm 13 now, i want to start new, is there a way i can stay organised, even though i'm a totally lazy person?

Hey girl, I know it's hard, but doing that first major clean up will help so much. Clean your room up and challenge yourself to clean it once a week. Once you've done the work neatening it up now, you won't want to let it get that bad again. The time investment of cleaning it will teach a lesson in a way.

MOD MOD! I need Some Advice I have A Cousin who is younger than me and we used to hang out and he would come over to our house and we'd have so much fun, but for months we haven't see him but a few times he hasn't been to our house much in months we never see him hardly and my brother said he is getting into stuff he shouldn't be like Mature games, is there any way we can help him? and i don't know why but for a while when he came around me he would do weird things he would hold hands with me and one time he was feeling my hair, i don't know why him being my cousin would hold hands with me? do you have any idea? Thanks MOD! Smile

Hey girlie,

A lot of people go through phases when they're growing up and becoming teenagers - it's normal and natural to get curious about "forbidden things." And some people (girls and guys!) act on that curiosity by trying things out. If it's anything really dangerous and immediately life-threatening, tell your parents or his parents about this. But if he's just exploring and growing up, try to let him know go through this phase without judging him...and be understanding! As for the holding hands, that just sounds like a young guy trying to figure out how to deal with girls. You were probably one of the first girls he got to know really well and saw "close-up" since you're family, so this is still probably just a case of curiosity. But like you said, holding hands/flirting with cousins isn't really right so, if he ever did it again, you should definitely stand up for yourself and make sure it stops! <3
