Bangs are crazy cute—until the weather heats up and they’re just plain crazy. Here’s how to work with your hair to ensure it looks adorable all summer long.

Problem #1: Your bangs are leading to breakouts

Turns out, your hair gunk can sooo cause your skin to freak out. Not cool. For those of you with longer, side-swept bangs, it’s time to break out your fave headbands, an arsenal of bobby pins and stylish clips to keep those bangs out of your face. Summer is also a great time to experiment with new styles like pulling your bangs back in a side braid or twisting or pulling your bangs back into a small poof.

If you have shorter bangs, make sure to keep your forehead as grease free as possible by washing your face in the morning and evening. Try using oil-blotting sheets for a mid-day pick-me-up.

Problem #2: Your once-sleek bangs are now a frizzy mess

It’s all about the conditioner, girl. Make sure your hair is hydrated so that it doesn’t puff up. Blow your hair dry with an anti-frizz leave-in conditioner before straightening your bangs.

Aussie Leave-In Conditioner, $4, ulta.com

Problem #3: Your bangs get greasy

Finally, it might seem tough, but resist the urge to touch your bangs to pull them up out of your face. Constantly playing with your mane will just make the oil add up. Keep some dry shampoo handy to touch-up your strands and eliminate afternoon greasies.

I have curly hair and bangs. Any ideas on how to get them NOT frizz up without being a slave to the flat iron?

Hey girl,

You can try using a hair serum (like frizz ease) that's made for preventing frizz. x0x0

My bangs don't really get greasy, they just get sweaty and they curl up. Any tips on keeping them dry?

Hey girl, hairspray is a great way to go! Spray them straight and carry a comb with you so you can adjust them throughout the day if they don't cooperate.

MOD!!MOD!!MOD!!MOD!! ok so i have layered hair and my hair always flips out. i use a straightner but its beginning to damage my hair. my hair is very stubborn so hair stuff doesnt work. is there any haircuts ar any better hair products i could use that wouldnt damage my and not flip out? thanks!

Hey girl!  When you do straighten your hair, you should use a heat protector spray to minimize damage (you can find it at the drugstore).  You could also use a round brush and blow dry it, although that still could cause some damage.  I did a quick search, but I'm not sure about styles.  You should bring up the sitch to your stylist the next time you go in for a cut.  He or she may know a way to cut it that reduces the prob.  xoxo

Hey! My mom and I both go to my mom's friend to get our hair cut. She is a professional but got laid off so she works from home. Last time i went. I told her i wanted to try a different type of side swept bangs, but i wasn't sure how they would turn out they curled up and i couldnt see what they would look like, they turned out the same and i always just end up braiding them back (its cute but it gets old after 3 years i want a new bang cut that will say WOW for summer and 8th grade). I have curly hair. I love my hair because its a mixture of curly fry and waves. Everyone says i am so lucky (: I got side swept bangs but she didn't do them like i wanted. I part my hair way over to the right side and i want bangs that side sweep across my forehead. How do i tell my hair dresser what to do? Sorry if this is super confusing.

hey! my advice is print out a picture of exactly what you want and show it to the hairdresser Smile

Hey girly,
You can't go wrong with styling your hair half up. Take the top layer of your hair and tie it back. This style is totally pretty and easy to do as well as easy to keep together when you're dancing.

MOD MOD MOD MOD Hi! I have a problem. I really want to get bangs, but I'm not sure if they would look good on me. I have shoulder length blond hair with very few layers and side bangs. I really want bangs like the girl in the picture though. I don't usually break out, so that shouldn't be a problem. Would bangs look good on me? Thanks MOD! =)

Hey babe. Bangs depend on both hair type AND face shape. Talk to a hair dresser. Most face types can look good with bangs, but it is about finding the RIGHT bangs for you.

Thanks!

Hey girl! That sounds like a really cute outfit! You can try stores like Forever21, H&M, or WetSeal. Aso for the top, you can wear anything! I would go for a solid, bright colored top, or crop top. Maybe hot pink, blue, or green. Good luck!

~Lauren

Hey girl!

In this situation, it's important to be conscious of your friend's feelings. It's hard to stop liking someone, so it must have been hard for her when you and your bf started dating.  However, you should trust your friend and boyfriend, and if they wanna hang out as friends, that should be their choice.  Think of this as just a great way for the two special people in your life to become closer as friends. It's way better than them hating each other at least! Hope that helps. x0x0

Cowlicks are such a pain in the butt aren't they? Just put some hair cream or gel on it, then try taming it by using a blow dryer and then straightener to make it stay in one direction. Good luck! x0x0

I have had bangs my whole life and I'm getting REALLY tired of them hanging down on my face. I really want to get big side bangs!! Any tips on how to grow 'em? Thanks soo much!!

Hey girl!

Hair grows naturally so unfortunately you just have to wait until your bangs lengthen a bit, and when they do, go to a hairdresser and have him or her cut them for you. You can even bring in a picture of your favorite celeb's side bangs to give the hairdresser an idea of what you want. If your bangs are annoyingly getting in your face, hold them up with a cute clip or headband. Hope that helps! x0x0

I'm going into *** grade and every summer every grade has to read a certain book over the summer. we start back in August and I have already finished the book. My grade had to read Jacob Have I Love. It was terrible!!! But anyway, we only have our reading class one semester this year, and the last 2 books we read them out loud in class and did test over the chapters. But Jacob Have I Loved has some embarrassing parts in it. Like the girl telling the story gets her first period and has a stain on her dress and has to stay home from church, and when she grows up she becomes a nurse and at the end of the story she's the dr. to help a girl give birth to her twins. when one is sick she takes care of it and has to nurse it,like breast feed. And it talks about how her breast are swollen, but she does it anyway, and the baby at first just catches the milk and then it finds the nipple. And it uses all those words! What can I do to not turn red in class? I know the boys will say things! Frown

Hey girlie! I know it can be embarrassing, but it's all natural stuff! There are some things you can do to help though. While you're reading just focus on the words, not what they're saying. That will help a lot. If someone else is reading then try to avoid eye contact with the other people in your class. Don't eat anything spicy before the readings, wear comfortable clothes, and just try to remain calm. Just remember that there is absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about! Its just a book, they're just words. Everyone has nipples and a lot of people see breast feeding as a beautiful thing. Good luck babe!

I've had blunt bangs all my life, but now want to change them to side bangs.do you have an tips for the awkward growing out stage? i want to look nice this summer, but i think growing out the bangs will only look dumb. Any tips? thanks so much!

Hey girl! It's great that you're trying something new! There are lots of cute things you can do with your bangs while you're growing them out. While they're still short, you can unevenly separate them which will look cute and flirty. You can also push them back with a headband. A little puff is also super cute and only needs a few bobby pins. The side braid is also an adorable way to get the bangs out of your face, while you're growing them out or once they're cut and you just want them out of your face for a change!  Good luck!

hey! im going on a caribbean cruise in 2 wks (its a week long) and after that we are going to disneyworld for 3 days. i live in california so its a long plane ride to florida! ok... how many books should i bring? how many bathing suits? how many magazines? thanks!

Hey girl,

Wow, that sounds like so much fun! As for books and magazines, I would pack light - cruises and Disney World have a LOT to do, so you'll be busy most of the day. And when you're not busy, you'll probably be sleepy! Stick to one or two books (mostly for the flight) and a few magazines. As for bathing suits, since it's about 10 days, I would bring about 3 if you have them. That way you have options depending on your mood...and back-up in case one rips or something! <3

Hi girly i hope you can help meSmile.ok so heres the prob. i really like my best guy friend. I know for a fact he likes me to. We flirt all the time and say cute stuff each oter to. but the problem is we both want to go out with eachother but we dont want to what happened last time we went out(bad brake up.) were both alot older now and i think we could handle a relationship. I dont think it would be like last time because i would never want to lose him as a friend. What do I do and how can I tell him that i dont think it would be like last time? Also Im going swimming with him and my best friend Saturday and i was wondering if there is any good games we could play in the pool were i can just get him one on one with me?Smile thanks girly!

Hey girl,

That's so sweet - and I'm so glad you both had a second chance to get close again! I'd probably just be honest with him on this one. You can subtly drop hints that you're crushin' in any normal situation but, since you guys have history and there's a lot of anxiety about keeping your friendship through the whole thing, just being direct is the better way to go. Try waiting for the "right" moment (some time when, even though you might feel nervous, you really wanna share your feelings with him), then tell him you still really like him. See how he responds. If the convo comes to the idea of "dating," share your thoughts. Try not to have high expectations - he might be just as hesitant (or more so) because he doesn't wanna lose your friendship. But having that convo, sharing that you think you're both more mature and ready to try again, is the first step!

I really don't want to spend my whole summer break on the computer the whole time. What are some fun things I can do by myself this summer?
xox
Lily

Hey Lily,

I totally understand - we haven't been on vacation in a while either, so I'm always trying to make my own fun! This is a great time to pick up new hobbies and try some things you never have before. Grab some books on a fave subject at the library, start learning a new language with books/tapes, make a list of movies and watch your way through them, learn how to knit, train for a half-marathon, learn how to make meals for your fam, make money by babysitting/petsitting/doing chores around the house, head to the public pool in your town, and spend time with the fam and friends that ARE around. The internet can help you with all this stuff, but the act of DOING them will keep you productive Smile

Hey babe,

Change is great! I say go for it! Just make sure you'll be able to take a few extra minutes each morning to style them and take care of this new hairstyle, and you'll be set. And remember: the best part about hair is that it grows back. So if you don't like it, don't fret! <3

So I'm going to visit my family and old neighbours in Australia this summer. My bestie still lives over there and I want to bring her something that's really quite American and she couldn't get over there but still cheap and I can get quickly because we are leaving in a few weeks. Any suggestions?? Thanks! xx

Hey girl,

Great idea! You could make a collage of photos, postcards, and patterns (like an American flag pattern) for your bestie to put on her wall and remind her of the USA. You could also buy a baseball cap or tee shirt of your fave sports team, a statue/figurine of a local monument, or even a bag of your fave candy! She'll appreciate just seeing you - anything extra will be the icing on the cake Smile

It's most definitely the way you're sleeping! You can't really change how you subconsciously fall asleep, but a new pillow (possibly firmer, with more support) might make sleep a more comfy experience Smile
