Fact or fiction: Your nipples itch when your boobs grow

Check these out, too...

  • Boob hair: Normal or not?
  • Could I have Huge Boob Syndrome?
  • Do guys only care about chest size?
  • Do these blue veins on my boobs mean I'm sick or something?
  • My nipples won't make up their minds
I’ve heard that when your boobs are growing, your nipples itch. Is that true?

This one falls somewhere between fact and fiction. When your breast tissue is growing, you might feel a little sore or tender to the touch. They can also feel itchy because your skin is stretching to accommodate the larger size of the underlying tissue. So yes, your nipples might be itchy while your boobs are growing.

But…your nipples could be itchy for other reasons, too. Things like scratchy fabric, an allergy to your laundry detergent or super dry skin. Take a peek at your boobs. If your nipples look red and irritated, try wearing softer clothes and rubbing some moisturizer into the dry skin after you shower.

I was wondering if itchy nipples does actually mean your getting you period because I have itchy nipples occurring right now it's not due to dry skin or anything like that but it could be my period because I'm due to get that.... Just wondering if I'm going to get my period anytime soon due to itchy nipples? If so how soon?

Hey girly, they can certainly get more sensative when your period is coming soon but they can also get itchy because of dry skin like you said, or from irritation from wearing bras. If this is because of your period, I'd think you'd get it in one week or sooner.

So right now one feel really sore. It feels and looks bigger. But its only one. Is it just growing or what?

Hey babe,

It could be growing, or it could be right before your period - it's very common for our nipples/boobs to get sensitive or tender right before our periods begin each month. If it's causing you a lot of discomfort, try taking a Tylenol or using a heat pad to soothe the pain.

one of my breats was hurting a few weeks ago, i couldnt bear the pain, i looked at it and the nipple was a different color than normal, also it looked a bit bigger. then a few days later it the pain went away, and it was very tender and hard, what does this mean?

Hey girly,

You should definitely go to the doctor as soon as you can to make sure everything's OK. It could just be a sign that your breasts are developing, or it could be something more so you should go to the doctor too see what it is. x0x0

both me n my sis have big boobs too, and wen ur out shopping with ur mom pick out a cute top u like that isnt too tight or low cut (becuz u are only 12) and if she thinks its too sexy, maybe try it on and visually show her, ur really just a normal teenager (becuz a b/c cup is the average size of a girls bra), and if that doesnt work, have a talk with her that is kind of blunt, just saying, i kno i hav big boobs, but that doesnt mean im goin to become a sl*t just because im wearing clothes that show im curvier than sum other girls bcuz the only point of growing up is that ur gonna get a womans body, whether ur 10, or 20, its eventually going to happen to everybody, it just happened to u a lil earlier than sum other girls, but it does NOT mean u shood hide it! good luck girlie!

Hey girlie! It's totally normal for someone your age to get pains in your boobs. You're just developing early. I know it hurts, so you can ask your mom if there is any medicine you can take, like ibuprofin or advil, she'll know what will work best for you. It's one of the warning signs that your period is coming, but it may take another whole year for your period to actually come. It's your body and it will decide when it's ready. xoxo

Sometimes one of my boobs will be bigger than the other one day but then the next day they are the same size. Some may say this is natural but I just think it's wierd. Is this normal to happen?

Hey girl,

Yes, this is normal, and does happen to some people.  The reason could be that you're about to get your period or you're retaining water because of too much salt.  But even though you're self-conscious about it, chances are nobody's really noticed if your boobs are different sizes, so you shouldn't worry about it.

I'm freaked out because they aren't growing out they are just becoming rounded around my nipple. I also wear the same size bra as my friend but her breasts she said grow out! What is wrong with me?? Lol!!!!!

Hey babe! Don't worry, it's totally normal. Everyone's boobs are different. So don't panic. Nothing is wrong with you. Your breasts will develop at their own speed and in their own way. If it makes you really uncomfortable you can talk to your mom, your doctor, or another trusted adult. xoxo

Is it better to wash your hair when you take a shower or is it better to wash your hair everyday with no shower(sink)?
Sorry for being so confusing!
-C

Hey babe! The problem isn't where you're washing your hair. If you're going to wash it it's best to do it in the shower because then you're cleaning the rest of your body too. If you decide not to wash your hair you can still shower, just wear a shower cap. Your hair can get wet, just don't shampoo or condition it. Hope this answers your question!

Hey girl,

Even though they don't itch, you should go see a doctor so that he or she can maybe help you get rid of them. Or, you could try wearing a bathing suit with padding in the top and more coverage so that the bumps are covered. Good luck! x0x0

MOD MOD MOD: I am 13 and my boobs grew into a 32A bra in 5th grade. Now I'm going into 8th grade now and I'm still the same size!!! What is the deal! My mom is a 38D so why am I not developing at all? I really hate myself because of my small chest and I cry over it sometimes because everyone I see in my school, even in a younger grade is filling out a B cup! WHY! HELP!

Hey dont be sad!! There are girls out there with smaller busts who work it! Dont be scared about your late development. Your bust line wont stop developing til your twenties. Dont fret. IT will keep growing. Even if it doesnt, you have nothing to worry about. My best friend is an a and she always looks good. Plus she can wear awesome tops that i cant wear because im too chesty. There are advantages. Dont worry Smile xoxo kerra

1* I've got huge lumps and hard tissue around the perimeter of my nipples/boobs. They really hurt and I'm freaking out cause I thought breast buds were tiny ....?! I've had them for about a year or so ....
2* I've had discharge for maybe .... the past 3 or 4 months ... does this mean my period is on it's way? I've got heavy, really dark pubic hair (TMI?), but other than the lumps, no boobs.
3* I'm kinda embarrased about my shape. I'm a ruler, 5'4, 90 lbs., no butt, no boobs. Frown Is there anyway I can get curves? If not, how to I feel better about my body?

Hey girl,

  1) You should absolutely see a doctor about the lumps to make sure everything's OK.  2) Discharge is a sign that your period is coming, but since everyone is different, it's hard to tell when exactly that time will be. 3) Don't be embarrassed at all about your shape. Everyone looks different and has their own unique body--and you should love yours! x0x0

Hey babe! Since you've already been once it's not that hard to ask again. Just tell her that you got rid of the ones you don't wear anymore and now you need some more. Tell her you only have a few left. Everyone wears bras, she will understand. Good luck!

MOD,MOD,MOD!! So when I'm at school or a really crowded place like the mall, everyone bumps into me. I know this is normal but it really hurts when someone accidentally hits my chest area. I'm developing, so it really hurts, and I wince or say OW!! People always ask me whats wrong, and I have to just blush and say nothing. Anyway to stop or help this painful process? Thanx Smile

Hey girlie,

The best advice I can think of is to wear a bra with a bit of padding in it - it'll give your boobs a little pillow ;) You could also take a pain killer like Advil or Tylenol if you're feeling really tender. It's tough because this is a phase we have to get through, but it's totally normal!

Hey girlie,

It's totally fine to wanna "float" between friends groups and experiment to see which you feel more comfy with! Try mixing it up and sitting with one group for a couple days, then the other group for a few days. And when you're there... TALK! Doing something new is always a little nerve-wracking, so take a deep breath, swallow that anxiety, and be more out-going than you're used to! It's the only way to let them get to know you - and for you to get to know them Smile

Tender, like around the perimeter of my boob. And yes, I have had my period for..2 years? Oh and wondering, do you know the game "Boob tag?" Ya, some girls at my school play that, and some play hard! Even tho I am out of school, could that really damage tissue or anything in your breasts? And sometimes my nipples feel really sore and if they get rubbed againist, it like a sore feeling. And I check to make sure they are ok n in the middle of my nipple it looks like this flake thingy is coming off (Sorry I dont mean to sound gross, but there is no other way to describe this!)But I just gently pad it back in, bc pulling it hurts!!

Hey girlie,

Yep, I've heard of that game...that's so annoying! Our bodies are pretty resiliant though, which means they can handle a lot of everyday "abuse." Still, that game can really hurt sometimes - and I wouldn't really want random girls touching my boobs, even if it's quickly haha. So next time the game is going around, defend yourself! Smile No worries on your nipple prob - they can get dry just like skin, and that's what this sounds like. Try using a gentle body lotion after showering and get it everywhere. It's natural for boobs to feel sore or raw at times (especially before your period), but you can definitely help out your bod by moisturizing Smile

I am trying to lose weight and be healthy. I hate the taste of vegetables. I absolutely hate it and always will. The problem is I'm not getting any vegetables. What should I do?

First and foremost, you must keep in mind that your body is still changing, thus your size will fluctuate constantly and you should focus on embracing each and every stage. Nonetheless, if you focus is to be healthy, you should increase your fruit and water intake and decrease the not to healthy foods. Health should be your priority--not weight Smile
