Sick ‘n’ tired of barricading your room from your besties? We’re showing you how to take your space from crazy cluttered hazard zone to an awesome hangout for you and all of your buds.

From twin bed to daytime lounge
Converting your twin bed into a comfy day bed (also known as a place where you and your friends can relax and gab about your latest crushes) is as easy as 1-2-3. If it’s not already there, move your bed length-wise against one wall in your room. Toss a few bright cushions or pillows (we like the one below) against the wall to give ya some support. It will look just like a sofa and become you and your BFF’s new fave place to hang!

Steve Madden Betty White Square Decorative Pillow, $20, overstock.com

Tidy up
You and your bestie may know everything about each other, but the last thing she needs to see is your dirty undies littering the floor. Do your relationship a favor and buy a cute hamper, then make a point of tossing all of your worn clothes into it before going to bed. You can grab a plain one, like the hamper below, and decorate it with puffy paint and rhinestones if you like.

Badger Basket Folding Hamper in Sage, $22, target.com

Beanbag baby
Comfy beanbag chairs, like the ones below, will give you and your BFF a great place to relax after a long day at school. Plus, they can easily be moved around your room and placed wherever you want. Store them when your BFF’s not there, then pull them out for some fun seating.

Beanbag in pink, $25, target.com

Feel the fuzz

To make your room even more inviting, create a friend zone with a fuzzy rug that’ll feel great under your toes. It will make your room super cozy…and offer up some comfy seating or extra padding when your buds are sleepin’ over.

Xhilaration Solid Shag Rug, $30 for 30” x 48”, amazon.com

Get your game on
Do you love playing rummy with your BFFs or hosting marathon Monopoly tournaments? Stow a basket of fun board games and decks of cards in a corner so you can pull it out whenever you’re looking for something to do.

Large Gingham Storage Bin, $15, containerstore.com

MOD!
How do I do the couch bed shown in the picture if the frames are on the top not side? How do I have a cute room with no permission to paint, refurnish, or get cute new pieces besides pillows and baskets?

Hey girlie,

No matter what your room looks like, it's totally possible to use your bed as a lounge! Just position your pillows along the wall, instead of at the head of the bed where you sleep. Make sure the bedspread covers the whole thing. And, if you have a headboard, see if you can remove it so the sides are open. That way, you turn it from "bed" to "awesome bedroom couch for all my friends to enjoy." Smile Remember that some parents don't have the money for big new purchases, so try to make the best of what you have! Rearrange things, spray paint old lamp bases to refresh them, buy new colors of pillows, put pics of your besties and your fam on the walls, etc. Be creative with what you're allowed to do!!

MOD MOD MOD MOD i want to do my room like that but I have no money and my room is a mess. how do i do it?

Hey babe,

You won't believe how great a clean room can feel! Instead of worrying about money and buying new things, focus on one corner or section of your room at a time (today, your desk; tomorrow, under your bed; Wednesday, your closet; etc.) and tidy up. Create a system for hanging your clothes and promise yourself that you'll fold your clothes or throw them in the hamper when you take them off - NOT toss them onto the floor. Commit to keeping it clean and you'll be shocked by how much more room you have for your besties to hang!

Mod : my mom and i planned to completely redo my room for my 13th birthday which is in about 8 months. my queen bed takes up most of my room. i'll clean my room really well, then two days later itll be a wreck, and ill leave it that way until it gets really bad, and starts to bother me. im not good at all sticking to a routine, so how can i keep my room clean and my parents happy?

Hey girl,

Even if you're no pro now, it's a good skill to be able to stick to a routine. Use your new bedroom as the perfect chance to work on your skills. Ask your parents to remind you everyday -- try using sticky notes as reminders -- make it a habit to clean right before you go to bed/wake up/get home from school etc. With a little determination, it will soon be second nature. Good luck!

I wanna know where they got the huge cushion Do ya know where

Hey girlie,

You might be able to find affordable oversized ottomans at Target, Walmart, or Kohls. (Try places with dorm room furniture for the best chance of finding one!) There are more expensive ones in a variety of colors and fabrics that can be found at furniture stores like Macy's, Raymour and Flanigan, etc. You could also make your own with wood, a staple gun, fabric, and foam if you have a crafty family to help ya out Smile

Try putting one of the chairs in your closet until it is needed, that should free up some space. As for the paint colors, orange, yellow, or anything "Fall" related would work out perfectly with tan

MODMODMOD so, weve had my house for several years now and i think were finally going to paint the rooms and stuff. in my room, i want bright colors, like bright green, bright pink, and bright orange, but im not sure how to use those colors and maybe silver or white without my room being too bright. any ideas? thanks!

Hey girly,
There is nothing wrong with a bright room. To make it fun I would suggest painting each wall a different color or maybe have two walls be the same color and each of the other two a different color. Then, stick with white furniture. This will make your room look not as bright and really nice looking. Have fun with this and make sure that it shows off your own unique style.

My bed is already a Trundle/Day Bed so that step is done. Other then that, my room is terrible. Whenever I have my friend over my room is clean and it is a good place to hang out but there is nothing to do. I have no electronics of any kind in my room, and all I have to do is stuff from when I was little. The last time I had my room updated was when I was 7 and I hate it cuz it is bright yellow and flowery. I really want my room to look older and more personalized and I keep asking my mom if I could redo my room and she always put it off. What can I do???

Hey babe! Summer is the perfect time to redo your room! Just ask you mom again, or start looking in magazines to find ideas, and make sure she sees you looking at them so she knows you're serious about this! She can give you great ideas too! Good luck!

Hey girl,

It might be more comfy to eat in your room, but it will definitely bring on the bugs.  You might think you're being careful, but even the tiniest crumbs will bring on the ants so it's best to just keep food in the kitchen. Also, you should grab a vacuum cleaner to make sure your room doesn't have any crumbs in it, and hopefully that will get rid of the ants. Good luck! x0x0

Hey, nailsInn, since no one answered ur question, I will (im just another Gl user). MOD stands for moderator. They make sure no one writes inappropriate things and to answer your questions. So as you have probably seen, just write MOD in front your question. They will probably answer. Not always, though. But most of the time, they do. Smile hope that helped.

Its bad enough that my ankle has a ligament sprain! how do i keep it clean with a small amount of $$$? I want this to be the best summer ever but i cant do that staying in my room all summer! HELP!!!!!

Hey chickadee! Maybe you could make a weekly chart and start to reward yourself for keeping it clean each week. For example, you could take a few days to get it in good shape, and then, each week thereafter that you keep it clean, you'll give yourself a star sticker. Once you keep it clean for a whole month, you can reward yourself with a new shirt, or doing something with your friends that you really want. Your parents could probably help with this Smile

my mom redid my room for my 9th birthday. now that im going 2 be 14 my room is really young and girly and i really dont like having my friends in my room cuz its kinda embarrassing and my mom wont let me redo my room until next summer. but i cant wait that long! my walls are blue with really tiny purple dots on it and i have a white bedspread with colored polka dot designs on it with matching curtains and pink bed sheets and i dont even really like pink! what can i do to make my room more grown up, less girly, and more me?!? and i cant get a new bed spread either.. please help!

Hey girlie,

Since you have to wait, your only option is to revamp the room slowly, piece by piece. Do it with small details first: if you have a pink lampshade, replace it with a more neutral one to make it look more "grown up." Once you can get a new bedspread, use that to set the tone for your future room. Use a neutral-colored throw rug to turn the mood from girly to sophisticated. Try not to be overwhelmed by the big picture of the room - go slowly through it and make it more mature one step at a time Smile

i have a loft bed and a small room- what can i do?

Hey girl,

You can't take our advice to turn your bed into a sofa, but you can use the other tips to get rid of clutter (clothes, school books, mags, and bags should be outta sight - or at least organized so they aren't all over the floor). By keeping the floor clean, you'll have more room for guests! And you can use bean bag chairs, folding "directors" chairs, or even comfy ottomans as seats for your buds Smile

MOD
Hi! Okay, so my summer break started very early and I hve only been out with ONE friend the entire time. I was invited to a few parties but I made up exscuses because I always feel akward and alone at parties. Now that the friend I hang out with is away for two weeks I have NO ONE to hang out wwith and it's making me realize how few good friends I actually have so now I am soooo upset because on facebook I see pictures of all of my friends having fun.And I am entering high school next year so I feel like I'll start without any friends which is terrible and I can hardly bear the thought because I have NEVER had this problem before. HELP!

Hey chica,

Stop stressing right now! Looking at photos on Facebook and feeling down won't help the situation at all. Instead, call up those friends who invited you to the parties before. They invited you because they wanted you there, so take advantage of that! Be an active friend and don't worry about feeling shy or awkward - be yourself and be as out-going as you can, asking them about their summer plans, their fun times so far, what boys they're crushin' on, whatever! You deserve to have fun Smile (And instead of feeling awkward and alone at social events, challenge yourself to talk to new people, mingle with all of your friends/classmates, and have a good time. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is a GREAT way to build confidence...and make friends, too!)

MOD!!!
My sister and I share a room. She's 5 yrs. older and very bossy! She's the one that decides what goes in the room and she decided to paint the room dark colors. Now the room looks smaller and very cluttery! She has a basket of clothes always all over the floor and wheneverI please ask her to clean it up she says "Haley, it's my stuff!"
Don't say just talk to her about it or retort back cuz all she'll do is something worse. Don't say go to a parent cuz they won't help!(Trust me!)
So my question is, How do I make my room look better with all the mess and my bossy sister???????
Thanx!

Hey girl,

If you can't talk to her or your parents about this, the best thing to do is try to agree on a dividing line in the room. Everything past the line on her side is hers; everything on your side of the line is yours. Put down a line of tape if you have to! That way, you can keep your side clean and tidy, put whatever furniture you want in it, and keep it the way you like. If anything of hers comes over the line, you can throw it back. Other than this or just living with it until she moves out/you get your own room, I'd really recommend talking to your parents and maturely telling them the issues that you're having. Leave all of the "It's so unfair" or "All my friends have their own rooms" comments out of the convo, but instead just tell them that you don't feel comfortable in your own room because of the mess, the dark colors, etc. Try coming up with ideas on how they can help you - requiring your sis to clean the floor before she goes out, maybe. Create a plan and share it with them calmly!

MODMODMODMOD!
I love this post, but I'm such a pack rat!I have stuff from when I was a baby,I have most of my papers from KG to 3rd grade, and I have most of my toys from when I was a little kid.How can I fix this, and get rid of everything i don't need?

Hey girl,

I totally understand how hard it is to get rid of stuff - it was, at one point, really important to ya, so it holds sentimental value! And plus, you never know if you'll need them again. But you can't live your life keeping everything you've ever owned - you'll get swallowed up by all that STUFF! Instead, start by sitting outside (or somewhere away from all the stuff) and make a list of the things you have that you really, really need to keep. This will force you to remember specific items in the midst of all that junk - if you don't remember it, it should probably go! Then, go to those boxes of stuff and start in one place, taking it one box at a time. Go with your baby things: clothes, toys, etc. Go through it and choose two or three items that you wanna keep. Then, ask mom or dad to go through it to see if there are any items they wanna keep for memories-sake. Then, with what's left, make two piles: TRASH and DONATE. By donating lots of your clothes/toys/other items if they're in fair shape, you'll become empowered - you're doing something amazing by giving someone less fortunate a chance to enjoy the stuff you've owned. It's not doing anything just sitting in your attic/basement, but this way another family will be able to make memories with those things too Smile That's a pretty great way for your stuff to go!
